This is wonderful news! We tried The Nose Tree years ago in 3rd grade but abandoned the program after a few weeks for ALL of the reasons you mention here. I LOVE all things IEW (we still use the writing program), but have switched to Analytical Grammar. It sounds as though IEW really heard parents' concerns and responded. Thank you for making this video!
❤️
This was a great review! I’ve had my eye on Fix It for awhile. Also, I love how easy it is to watch your videos…you speak quickly (but not too fast) and smoothly so it’s easy for me to stay engaged. Glad I found your channel!🙂
Aww 🥰 I’m so glad you enjoy them and that it’s not too fast lol 😂 bc I know for many it is.
We started Fix It Grammar this year and I just purchased the new level 2 to begin in a month. I didn’t realize all the changes that had been made since I haven’t received it yet. Thank you for sharing this…it was very helpful!
So glad this helped
Thank you for breaking it down! Was going to use their writing next year and figured we’d try the grammar as well. Glad to hear they’ve made it even better. Great explanation!
So glad it helped
I’m loving that they are telling them exactly how many of each fix now! It’s so helpful!
Yes, that’s probably my favorite feature.
Y’all are amazing! We are so excited about this level. We used FIG with my two oldest for the first time this year, and it has been amazing. One of our non-negotiable subjects each day.
That’s awesome
I have been so interested in this! You did great explaining what the pros and cons to the new features might be. I want to start using this with my kids.
I’m glad it helped
We are new to FIG. Purchased Nose Tree used last year but never got around to it. Decided to start with book 2 with this new release and grabbed the cards as well. So excited to finally try it out!
Awesome
This was so helpful, Katie! I haven't used Fix It until now, but it's nice to know where they have come from. We are loving it so far!
I’m so glad it’s working so well for you guys
Thank you so much for all that you shared.. so helpful! I’m looking forward to using this next year!
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do
Love Fix It Grammar. Looking forward to the new layouts.
It’s so much easier to use
I’m loving all these changes!
I agree
Love the new changes!
Me too
I know you have my back. You answered all my questions. Thank you very helpful
So glad to hear that
I purchased this for the fall and it looks wonderful!
I’m so glad to hear that your loving the look. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts after using.
As an Australian removing the digital option has just removed this curriculum as an option for me. The cost of printing the extra pages is still far better than the cost of shipping from the states to Australia.
Yeah, I wish they still had a version for overseas families too.
Thanks for this video, it was very helpful!
So glad it helped
I'm really looking forward to seeing you updated version.
❤️
I totally entered without leaving an email address. 😂 I’ve been in the fence about this curriculum but you definitely just sold me on it.
😂 you can renter if you need to lol 😂
So helpful - thank you!!
Anytime
Thanks for sharing mama! I can't enter since I am in Canada but I am actually very intrigued by this curriculum... will be going to watch Megan's video!
I hope our videos can help answer your questions
Thank you so much for this video!!
Happy to help
Sounds awesome!!! We looked into this and we didn’t think it would be helpful!!!
That’s perfectly fine. There is no such thing as a curriculum that is a perfect fit for every person. That’s what I love about homeschooling is that we can Taylor it to our kids.
I love this company so much!
Me too
This was wonderful, thank you!
Happy to help
I love all the new changes, I want to get the newer version ❤
It’s amazing
Picking the level was a bit tough for me! We went with 3 since she has had several years of grammar in other curriculums, and it's working pretty well!
I’m so glad it’s going well
I’ve been considering nose tree. You convinced me! I’m in!
I think you will love it!
This looks so good!
I’m so excited about it
What an amazing review Katie!
Thanks
I went ahead and subscribed to your videos. I am excited to learn from you.
Thank you that means a lot.
You are exactly right about a "struggle" half way through Robin Hood ...
I’m so glad they have created a smoother transition
We have been using Fix It Grammar for the last four years. We just started the new versions this week. We are loving all the changes you mentioned. The amount of each item needed to find at the top of the page makes it so my kids can work more independently. One thing I noticed that I wish they didn't include is the indent fix. If there is only one sentence, it's obvious where the indent/new paragraph starts. It would of been better if it was a question....Do you need to indent? The way it is now they don't really need to think it through .Is it a new time, setting or speaker?? The new version will tell you if there is one or two indents or it's just not listed if none.
Oh that’s really good to know.
I'm late to this party but we are looking into IEW next year and I'm wondering if Fix It Grammar and the Style & Structure would be enough? Like does Fix It Grammar teach them thorough grammar. I'm hoping between those 2 it will be a well rounded language arts program.
Yes fix it grammar is a complete program. The only other thing you would need to add in my opinion to fix it grammar and structure and style is literature for your kids to read.
Hi what a great review. I was going to purchase fix it grammar 2nd hand as I live in the UK and it is cheaper. How do I know if its an older version and do I need the teacher manual or could I get away without using it? X
I personally would not do it without the teachers manual. As far as how to tell the difference they actually changed the cover so if you google 1st edition Fix it grammar and look at the images you can see how they look different
Do you have an IEW coupon code? Planning to purchase Fix it
I have always heard IEW was a good curriculum!
It’s so good
Is this a full curriculum? Would you need to purchase fix it, along with structure and style? I don't quite understand how they work. Thank you! Currently using BJU for ELA.
It is a full grammar curriculum but to finish out language arts you will want to add writing (we do structure and style) and literature selections.
When does a homeschool parent start their kid on grammar? New homeschooling mom here
I personally do very light grammar work and then switch to this around 4th grade or 5th grade
Generally, what grade would you say The Nose Tree is good for?
In my opinion 3rd grade or 4th grade is the earliest I would start HOWEVER they usually recommend starting at book 1 regardless of age bc the skills build on each other
I know this is a year old video, but I am once again revisiting FIG to see if it would be wise to re-introduce it to my oldest 2 kiddos. We stopped using it after finishing the old version of Robin Hood (old book 2), I went to a convention last year and got to flip through the new Robin Hood (new book 3 now) and I was puzzled by the drop in the vocabulary quality. I mean, it was noticeable that the richness that was there in the older version was watered down significantly. My kids were not interested in repeating the same story despite the vendor lady for IEW saying "Kids aren't really going to notice a story repeating itself, they rewatch movies and re read books all the time, they won't mind redoing it." My kids felt different so we just dropped it for the last year. Started doing Gather 'Round Homeschool units, which has everything but math included in them, and could include all 4 of my kids in the joy of learning together.
Now, after a year of the older kids being in the middle school, I noticed that creative writing and lewrning to write a report for each unit was encouraged more than formal grammar taught consistently, so I am thinking if bringing this back.
Is there a place to write the vocabulary word and definition in the student book at all? The test of the changes look like they have streamlined it all much more, just wondered your thoughts after using the new version for the last year. Love your content, its so helpful!
So I have my child write the word and definition on the top line above where they are supposed to rewrite their sentence for the day. I did notice a change in vocabulary but I believe it was just a shift to make room for more levels. As we continue to go up in levels I have seen the vocabulary difficulty continue to increase.
@@LifeintheMundane Thanks so much! Would love to see an update video about how tou and the kids have liked the changes to FIG, if it's not too much to ask.
@@jillsaefkow204 I might do that as a short!
Just subscribed! I’m confused on the grade recommendations. For level 1 it says grades 3-5 and level 2 is grades 6-8. So if I implement this for a third grader I’m not sure what to do for grades 4 and 5? I’m assuming level 2 would be too advanced for a fourth grader? Thank you!
I typically don’t start my kids on fix it grammar till 4th or 5th grade and then there able to smoothly transition into level 2. You could always try it with a third grader and just do it slower if needed.
@@LifeintheMundane ok thank you!!
Oh no! No digital copy 😓. We live overseas so were really hopeful about this as we thought we could get it digitally.
When would you suggest introducing Fix It grammar if your child (nearly 7) is nearing the end of AAR1 and is doing pretty well with it covering a lesson a day. We have AAR2 and AAS1 and are looking at when to introduce those too.
I recommend starting in 3rd grade
I recommend starting 3rd grade if there is no reading challenges. If there is struggles with reading I wait till 4th or 5th
Great Video ...Happy Grammer Wednesday Friends😍
Thanks
@@LifeintheMundane Our pleasure
what "grades" do you think Nose tree would work for
4th grade and up
I can't find the answer: does Fix It Grammer teach the parts of speech and sentences? Or is it practice after the adj, proposition, conjunction, etc?
So Fix it Grammar does teach what each of the parts of a peach are but it is designed to start in 4th ish grade so many students going into it already have some familiarity with the parts of speech. They do have great review flash cards though that kids can reference to refresh on if they forget.
I just watched your galaxy grammar review. Have you switched over or do you use both?
I use Grammar Galaxy before moving my kids into fix it grammar.
Thank you for your video I'm very interested in Fix it grammer to use for next school year. Is it better to buy it directly with them at their website? Or at any other place?
I'm a new homeschool mom of 3. Started this year because our district didn't offer on-line school. I was going to do it just for one year. Now I want to continue but have so many questions and doubts that sometimes I want to quit. I got curriculums for each grade and I fell is too much work; it takes all day to finish. I'm thinking I can use "Fix it Grammer" with the 3 of them and work all together.
Yes you can. I recommend buying from the company bc they have a lifetime money back guarantee if you don’t like it.

@@LifeintheMundane Thank you so much.
So interested in this! May have missed it, but what age/grade should this be started?
3rd or 4th grade
@@LifeintheMundane thanks!
@@LifeintheMundane would you then start with Nose Tree when you start in 3rd or 4th?
@@lynnjohanssen6552 yes
I am really, really interested in this. Will you or could you use this with Grammar Galaxy or is that too overwhelming? I was seriously considering trying Grammar Galaxy but, this IEW layout I think would be helpful for my struggling learner.
You could use them together. I used Grammar galaxy first and then transitioned to this. But you could probably pair them together
@@LifeintheMundane ok I may do that since IEW have short lessons. For reading comprehension do you use All About Reading primarily?
@@nancyhansen7103 yes
@@LifeintheMundane Do you start your struggling learners on level for AAR no matter the age?
@@nancyhansen7103 depends on the kid and their struggle. All of mine have started at level one but there is placement test you can have them take
Does it at least tell you when to add in new grammar card?
I will have to check on that.
Is the student notebook optional or a required piece for this curriculum?
It’s required
@@LifeintheMundane Thank you!
Are you using fix it grammer over grammer galaxy now?
No we use Grammar Galaxy through 3rd or 4th grade and then switch to fix it grammar. So we use both
So, does it teach what the 'things are" like when does it or how does it Teach what all those things are and how to use them? Can you do a Do a lesson with us? So one can see how it works?
Yes it teaches them a new concept each week and then they apply it. You can see better how it works in this video czcams.com/video/DvK8d5W6sWw/video.html
@@LifeintheMundane I Just watched it thank you I guess I should of watched hers before I commented ---- thank you
Are the grammar cards optional or necessary?
Optional
What grade/age does Book 1 start?
3rd grade is typically the recommendation. I didn’t start my kids on it until 5th bc of their dyslexia though.
What grade should start level 1
Usually around 3rd grade for some I delayed till 5th grade though
@@LifeintheMundane thank you so much
I do have a question- I have the Old Version of the Nose Tree Level 1. Can I still use this with my son in Grade 3/4 and then switch to the new Level 2 The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse? Or, should I just start from scratch and buy the New Versions?
First of all you can definitely do that. I did it with my second child and it worked. That being said the old version of nose tree is harder and moves at a more accelerated pace then the new one and so with a 3rd grader I would tend to start with the new version because it eases you into the concepts easier but if you money is a factor you could try the old version first.
@@LifeintheMundane I’ve decided to get the newer version and donate the old ones to a new homeschooling mama whose daughter is very advanced for her age :)
You didn’t really address someone new to fix it grammar
Your right, this video is more about those who wanted to know about the changes but here is a video about how it works for beginners. The video is with the old edition but it’s not hugely different in how it works with this new edition czcams.com/video/DvK8d5W6sWw/video.html
