- Welcome to Ian Mac Woodturning! In this weeks turning video I used a piece of Plum to make a little decorative pot. I tried some gold leaf on this one but not sure if I'm entirely happy with how it looks, leave your opinion in the comments :)
If you are enjoying our videos then please do comment and like the video as it helps us massively, we really appreciate the support.

It's brilliant, sir! Don't stop.

Love your comments at the end. Most of the time I have no idea what I’m turning either. Keep up the good work 🌞
Haha thanks Ray! Hope you're well mate.

I believe it's a great little pot ! I could take or leave the gold leaf . I mean it's kind of unique . Great job .
Yeahh I'm not sure I like the gold leaf either to be honest.
Really great project 👏👏
Cheers mate!
Nicely done!
Thanks Doug!
Nice like it
Thanks Carolyn!
"I think it's a peace of plum." This is something only someone who works with wood can understand. Great show thank you.
Pretty neat Ian.
Thanks mate!
Lovely job I must have a go at that
Thanks mate!
Great piece
Looks good.
Thanks mate!
I like the gold! I think it came out well
Ian... a few months ago I learned how to do gold leaf on my own. It never comes out perfect... so you did a really nice job. The critical thing is to spray it with some good clear to protect it from oxidation. Real gold leaf being extremely costly, the standard stuff is mainly copper and will turn green otherwise. I did wooden letters I crafted, btw. Some of my fingers were gold for some time too. 🤣
Haha I'll have to bring you in next time to do the gold leaf for me!
Nice job Ian. In my work before I retired, I did an awful lot of metal foil inlays, mainly gold. ( lettering script on grave/head stones). The way we did it was similar to what you did here but we didn't use size. Instead we used an enamel yellow gloss paint & waited until it tacked up, then layed on the foil. We used a lady's make up brush to apply the foil & very gently burnished it with the brush. The yellow was laid on top of a thin layer of matt black. Same application if you were to use a silver foil but use a white gloss in place of the yellow. Don't know if this is of use to anyone but hopefully somebody will get from it. 👍🏴
Thanks! Very interesting info :)
@@IanMacWoodturning hope you try it Ian. It just gives it that extra wee glow. The gentle burnishing is an important part. Here's looking that it works for everyone & they're happy with the results 👍🏴
@@mashmade-airth I might have to give it a go mate! Thanks for sharing some of your knowledge, I’m sure lots of people will find that useful.
The gold leaf turned out good and the wood is beautiful but the shape… not sure about that. But you’re braver than me for trying it!
Lool I'm running out of ideas for shapes at this point!
Another master lesson of turning! Thanks a lot!
Thanks Umberto! I wouldn't say a master but I'm trying my best haha
Cool little vessel.
Thanks John!
hi ian mac good luck with this piece of wood hope it turns out nice From paul chapman at London uk can you please tell me what you made please
Stop hoping, You only need to watch to the end....8mins! 🤷♂
Thanks Paul!
Pflaumenholz? Ich glaube eher: Kirsche. Obwohl die Rinde nicht typisch ist für Kirsche. Die Form: Sehr gewagt und das genaue Gegenteil einer gewöhnlichen Drechselrundung. Aber so ein Experiment ist immer gut.
It has that fruit wood look about it. Not sure about the shape if im honest. Cheers, Dave
Haha no worries Dave!
Another 'watch me' video.
