  • Longtime Destiny Player Tries Warframe - First Impressions
Today I'm trying out a game that's been around for a while, and one I've heard a lot about, but I've yet to try. I haven't found too many games that quite match the play experience of Destiny, but I'm always looking for other similar type games, and I heard that Warframe is generally one that people will suggest. Today we're hopping in to play it for the first time, get the lay of the land, and see what we think. I figured, space ninjas; how bad could it be?

The 'breaking every container I see' thing new players do is adorable, ngl.
Edit: Still getting so many replies going "I still break containers" lol stop acting like y'all are breaking them individually at a snail's pace like this guy, let's be real here, veterans use an aoe of some sort.

Always love to see new players get into this! since you asked for suggestions:
    1. Never waste Platinum on rushing the Foundry. Sounds like you've already been told this, but just in case, it's never worth it. Plat is primarily for slots, cosmetics, and player trading.
    2. You can Bullet Jump in any direction your camera is facing, not just forwards. Some people figure that out, others don't. It massively improves movement options.
    3. At the end of the tutorial questline, it kinda just dumps you off on your own and says "now, go! explore!" and gives you no direction. You're looking for Junctions to get to new planets. The Junctions will have a set of tasks to complete in order to unlock the Junction, after which you will be able to move to the next planet.
    4. Your Armory has a limited number of slots for weapons and warframes, but your Foundry can hold an unlimited number (or a high enough number that I've never found the limit) of crafted items. Don't be afraid to craft anything and everything you find blueprints for; you can leave it unclaimed in the Foundry indefinitely until you're ready for it.
    5. Platinum can be obtained for free by farming valuable mods or Prime parts and trading those with other players for Plat. If you do decide to buy Platinum for $$$, they give Platinum discounts as daily login rewards decently often, so wait for one of those. I haven't kept track but it feels like I've gotten 50% offers about once a month or so, and a 75% offer comes up every now and again. (edit: apparently this is only on PC. Consoles get a different Market Discount, but not a direct discount on Platinum. I don't play console, so I didn't realize there was a difference).
Best of luck, and welcome to Warframe!

Yeah I've played Destiny since day 1 of the original, and I love it. It's my favorite game, but absolutely, I've put it away for long periods of time due to stale content cycles. I didn't touch it for over a year when the ssn. of the warmind dropped. That was miserable. I guess I'm a bit lucky in the respect that I don't go for the current meta at all in Destiny. I don't like a game dictating how I play. I play my way, find fun builds and roll with it. I TOTALLY get the sentiment though.
Warframe looks like it's going to hit that sweet spot for me. Engaging gameplay, tons to do & explore, tons to unlock, tons of builds to try. I'm very excited to get deeper into this one. Cheers!

@@bakagaijingaming3018 As a veteran Warframe player I can tell you the game pretty much caters to your play style. But I feel like I have to tell you that bullet jump works where your crosshair is pointed to so if you look up and bullet jump you go up. Just a tip the fastest way is to get around the map is to bullet jump forward while looking up, aim glide, slide when you land and repeat. Also if you hold jump while on walls you auto wall run not sure if they removed it in the new updated tutorial mission or if its the same button for console.
Last tip is to scan everything you see (enemies and objects) you can find out their mod drops, strengths and weaknesses and what planets they spawn in (as well as some info about them) not sure how destiny worked handled things like that.
But that's all I'm saying the funnest thing about Warframe is discovering stuff like some rare spawns in random places on the map in specific missions so exploring is a good call even on linear maps.

Have fun I’m 6200 hours in and 9 years playing with a couple of big breaks.
Oh and one big thing I’d strongly suggest. Do NOT sit looking at warframes in the market and going, oh, I like that one. In this game, there is a logical progression for you to get new Warframes. They are in an order so that you will have the mods and resources to build them and make them playable. They won’t be all they can be for quite some time as endo and credits are an issue for levelling up mods.

About what you said about the maps and the linearity of the quest:
    - The maps outside of a few specific cases (like the open worlds) are all tile based and randomly generated.
    - Outside of quests it's totally fine to explore around, looting everything, thought it's not something that is done in public squads usually. If you wanna farm resources people tend go to endless missions with a "loot frame" that have an ability that increase chances to dropping loot and just killing stuff as long as they want.
Regarding mods, the items (like frames and weapons) have points available to mod with based on their current level, up to a max of 30 (40 for some special endgame ones). The cost is shown top right, the ticks across the bottom is how many levels higher the mod can be ranked up to. If the slot matches the icon on the top right the cost will be halved (rounded up). If you attach a catalyst or reactor (one for frames, one for weapons) then it gives you double capacity, so 60 (80). If you attach a forma you can change the slots to any other icon so you can match more of your mods, so eventually you could potentially have an effective capacity of 120 because all of the costs would be half.
In order to use forma the item has to be at max rank already, and putting the forma on will reset it to 0. Some people make it a point of pride to put a lot of forma on an item they really like to show their devotion to it, even though they already have every slot changed.
Mastery rank is based on leveling each item for the first time. Buying a duplicate or applying forma wont earn you any more mastery, so to gain more you need to collect more frames and weapons. But there's a reason for it right? Some weapons are locked behind mastery, it determines how many trades you can have per day, how high your daily cap of rep earning with the factions is, but personally my favorite perk is that weapons/frames start with a capacity equal to your rank, regardless of the rank it has. This means that players at mastery 30 get the full capacity to mod with right off the bat on every new weapon or frame they try, and every time they apply a forma they get to keep the mod layout and just instantly get some extra capacity.
The game will continue to feel pretty easy until you get to maybe Ceres and then again might feel a lil harder around Uranus. However, the game as a whole will have a sense of being easy most of the time, it tends to give you a feeling of power fantasy as you kill 100s of guys at a time.
The story gets really cool around Uranus as well. Not knowing what a warframe really is, or why a lot of things are happening in the universe is intentional.

  • @khaozcat

One very basic suggestion which the tutorial kinda told you but I saw you struggle a couple times with it is that bullet jump goes exactly in the direction of where you aim. This means it's not just fast but also very precise, so you should pretty much always bullet jump to get around way quicker than walking/sprinting.
Also, the "warframe path" option you picked starts you out with some really old content, which you can really tell is old, the beginning of the main quest line is very different from what the devs put out nowadays.
You can always switch to paradox or warframe path at will, so I recommend to check out the paradox path which has a built-in tutorial and a new cinematic quest that just released.

I think another vet probably mentioned it (we LOVE sharing tips with newbies to help them enjoy the game more lol) but a lot of the movements can be chained together as well to create LONG jumps/slides without the hard landing that locks you in place for a second. There's a LOT of stuff to do in the game & it definitely can get VERY difficult *if you want it to* which I think is one of it's biggest enjoyment points (at least for me). There's also just fun stuff like fishing, animal capturing (I have almost every stuffed animal in the game decorating my ship) & lots of varied battle companions to find/collect & then come along with you on your missions :)

Volt is an amazing starter pick. Unlike Excalibur and Mag which you can get their parts via boss-fights later on, Volt's parts are obtained through Clan Research.
I can provide a bit of advice to help you since you are new though:
~Bullet Jumping is you main way of getting around, you can go in basically any direction with it. The best way to use it is to Bullet Jump then do a Roll or Jump to carry momentum around. This can be difficult sometimes since you can get caught on things, but youll pick up on how to use it.
~Learn how to mod your items. This will require you do a bit of research, but the way things works, leveling up things does not directly buff their stats (unless it is a Warframe), instead you get mod capacity, which allows you to directly modify the stats of your gear.
~Everything is free, do not feel pressured to buy platinum, since you can trade with others to get platinum, everything can be unlocked completely for free given you are willing to put in the time. There is a Recruitment Chat that you can turn on in the settings that can help you with grinding/missions, you can even join a Clan.
~Avoid Warframe's Regional Chat... kinda... Regional Chat (also accessible in the settings) can sometimes be helpful, but I would recommend doing your own research before anything else, since even though the Warframe community is mostly nice, there are bad apples who try to lead new players astray.
~I also recommend avoiding Trade Chat if you are newer, since there are some people who will try and scam you as a new player of your platinum, they are a very small amount of people that try it, but it's still best to avoid it; WarframeMarket is a website you can use to find amazing prices, I use it all time, it's best to use if you are going to trade.
~If you go to a Relay Station, you can practice your Master Rank tests before doing them, this can help a lot by preparing you without the risk of failing them (and if you do fail a MR test, the only penalty is being forced to wait a full day).
If you have any questions, dont be afraid to ask. Im also willing to offer help as well, just feel free to let me know.

    Some tips for basic movement:
    - You can bullet jump vertically by looking up where you want to bullet jump. I say this because i noticed in the tutorial you bullet jumped forward by accident on the part that teaches it.
    - You can cancel the landing animation with a slide. It makes gameplay more fluid and you dont have to waste a couple seconds watching yourself get up.

About the modding system: It's correlated to both your weapon rank and mastery rank, though mastery is more important: The higher your mastery rank is, the higher capacity amount you'll have for all weapons, (maximum level is 30). The only way to level up your mastery rank is by getting new weapons and ranking them up too, and the weapon ranks increase their capacity for that specific weapon only. (I hope this is easy to understand for you, and I'd be happy to help answer more questions about the game).

Hello! Glad to see a new Warframe player! I'll echo what others said and tell you to unlock planets. You will unlock quest content, new modes, and access new resources you will need. This is good time to mention that each mission, weapon, warframe, etc gives you mastery xp. I reccommend ranking up as you go, as more weapons will be available to you as enemy levels climb on your journey. By the time you finish the starchart, you will have most of what you need to start ramping up even further in power. Builds can get insane and you will be on a power trip!

This will quite the fun series to watch. As a long time warframe player I enjoy seeing the game attract more people and get newer players. So as. Bit of a side note to help you with Mastery Rank I do recommend that you stop the store in game and look for weapon blueprints that cost credits just so you have more weapons to level which increases your MR to be able to obtain higher MR weapons. There's also the clan dojo where you can research new weapons and some new warframes to master. Hope you enjoy the game.

To anyone who first jumps in, with the exception of Oro, all of Earth and Venus are basically your training wheels planets. It isn't until you get to Ceres that things start to get a little more challenging but that's because they don't want to overwhelm newer players. The good news for those who really want a challenge is that after Jupiter, things get a bit hectic, and once you've completed the entire star chart, you can opt in for something called 'The Steel Path'. Basically it resets your star chart so you're stuck on Earth again to make your way from planet to planet...but the enemies are a lot tougher than the level 1-3 guys you were used to.

The things that you can't get without grinding is cosmetic things, and there are some that can be obtained via grinding still.

Always fun seeing a fresh Tenno take their first steps :)
WF is a PC-First game, consoles are ports. If you can use KB/M that will be the best way to play. Friendly tip; you can aim Bullet jump in any direction (even downwards if you're launching off a wall-cling).
Welcome to the grind! The game has its flaws but you probably won't get there for a few hundred hours or so; but the power fantasy and melee-friendly gameplay (for being a hybrid hack-n-slash/shooter) is unlike anything else on the market. Community is pretty friendly/helpful as well. Even the late-game meta-chasers are relatively tame. The *True* end-game is fashion though... so save up :D

The only Prime you can't get is Excalibur, he was part of the founders pack. Any weapon that can be bought with plat in the store can be earned through drops, or in a clan dojo. Certain frames are in the dojo as well, including Volt. There are weapons that only drop from certain enemies, or are faction specific. Ayatan treasures are what you want to gain more endo, though you can sell duplicate mods as well. They can be found on the maps as you explore, so it is worth running around. You can get one weekly once you open the Mars station. You'll find the ayatan stars more often than the ayatan treasures, so make sure you grab them when you find them.

Welcome to Warframe, been a space ninja for about 8 years now, always nice to see new players get into it. The 1st few worlds are more or less easy mode for new players to get used to the mechanics of the movement, combat and game modes. The open world on earth or venus will most likely be your 1st solid challenge.
1 tip that I have not seen posted yet is that the market on your orbiter can be used to buy new weapon blueprints for just credits, you can even click a button so that it shows only items that have blueprints. It is best to level all weapons and frames to max level (30) before selling them off to make room for new stuff because that is how you increase your over all Mastery rank (MR) that will let you use better weapons as well as increase the amount of daily standing you can earn per faction and over all starting mod capacity of unranked frames and weapons.

  • @SenseofNoneYT
    @SenseofNoneYT Před rokem

I haven't really played Destiny but what I love about WF is that there comes a point where I'm just constantly building new weapons and frames and I have fun coming up with loadouts and builds trying to see what I like and don't like. Which is why I can't even say definitively if I have a main or not. It's the sweet spot for me.
One mission I have an ultimate spy that stays completely invisible and headshots enemies and they never saw it coming. Another mission I'm a walking tank with a melee weapon that deals funny numbers. Another where my Volt Prime is running so fast in an open world area electricuting entire camps. Or another where I give a Grineer colony space aids using Saryn's abilities, and a weapon is practically unnecessary.
That said, getting there might be what turns away some people. I think if you don't find the combat and overall warframe gameplay fun at all, then spending so much time grinding might not be worth it. If you at least find the gameplay fun, then maybe stick around. The game might surprise you after some critical points in the progression.

The two resources that you will genuinely want to have a look at are the Wiki, because that's updated religiously by the fanbase, and there's a tool called 'overframe' online which is for doing test modding and sharing builds for weapons and warframes.
Don't spoil yourself on the Story content, it's amazing, but the main part of the game is definitely the power fantasy, you will find it genuinely easy until you don't. When you don't, it's a gear check, so be prepared ^^

Been playing Warframe since July 2017, everything has come such a long way. Got 7.1k hours logged, 1,752 days of logins, and not even used every weapon in the game. Most players find a certain weapon or frame they like, and completely build the most broken setups you'll ever see, never venturing to other things outside of ol' reliable. It's always good to see what different weapons offer before settling into a certain playstyle. WF has a very active and helpful community, something i've never seen in other games. Welcome to Space Ninja Academy!
P.S, This may be a personal preference, but playing with a keyboard and mouse is much easier than a controller. having more available buttons for actions/gear hotkeys saves the need for remembering button combos like "RB + A/B/X/Y" for an ability when you can just use 1, 2, 3 and 4. If you have a keyboard and mouse lying around and console supports it, give it a go and see if you find it to be easier to use. Might be a good idea to run through the tutorial again if you do choose to, just so you know the controls for keyboard!

Having played Warframe for several years and being the second highest possible level, I'll try to give some advice to better adjust to the gameplay.
-the crouch button allows for rolling when tapped and sliding when held while moving, but crouching when held while stationary. You can change keybinds and settings to something more traditional like the circle/B button, which is what i recommend, as well as change your crouch settings toggle if you feel like it.
    - mobility ks a key aspect of Warframe, and can be capitalized in various ways. Most players will chain a bullet jump into a roll into a slide, or some combination of those few, and you can use the crouch button just long enough to stop a slide as soon as it starts for a sudden burst of momentum. Additionally, bullet jumping is directional according to where you're looking. Bullet jump straight up, straight down, left, right, whatever you need. You can also roll/slide midair for more mobility.
    - slots. You have a limited number of slots for your warframe, weapons, and anything in between. 12 plat (the premium currency) for two weapon slots, and 20p for one warframe slot. Do yourself a favor and NEVER BUY RESOURCES FROM THE MARKET. it's like masterworking a piece of Destiny armor with a stat total less than 55- you're ripping yourself off. You can also trade platinum to other players, giving Warframe a vast and bustling player economy. You can use the website Warframe.Market and select the platform you're playing on to see the pricing for anything you try to sell
    - confused? Check the codex; if you don't know where to find a relic or a resource, want to know about armor/health types and mod drop locations, you can do that... Though you're vastly better off by looking up the wiki. It's practically essential to understand the intricacies of buildcrafting in Warframe.
    - pace yourself. There's a lot of content, but understand that because warframes take at minimum 84 hours to finish crafting across four different blueprints, and weapons take at most 24 hours, that it's a game where the journey is the fun, not the destination. Take it at your own pace, find what works for you.
    - leveling up is under the title of "mastery rank", which increases every time you level a warframe, weapon, archwing, necramech, archgun, archmelee, companion, etc, etc for the first time. Some weapons are only good for "mastery fodder", but in all, you should concern yourself with increasing your MR at your own pace until about MR16, when the vast majority of the game is made available to you. After that is optional
    - pick a pursuit. Look through the codex and look for a warframe whose abilities and passive look godlike to you, and work towards that warframe. Very few frames are outright trash, just requiring a lot of effort to make them strong. My recommendation is a very tanky warframe, like Rhino, Revenant, Chroma, Baruuk or Valkyr.
    - assassination missions typically award a special component. The boss on Venus drops Rhino parts, the Mercury boss has two different weapons, Mars has... Excalibur? I think? Et cetera. Take a gander if you want
    - join a clan. Clans have a special chat for the clan members, and an alliance chat for a select group of clans. Having a clan also gives you access to a dojo, which is a load zone that lets you get tons of other weapons and warframes. Bigger clans have discord servers and even community events
    - official events are pretty regular, and by watching the developer streams with a linked twitch account, you get free goodies. Definitely recommend, and DO NOT MISS TENNOCON. watching tennocon and getting those rewards typically includes a unique weapon and an entire prime warframe, both with their own slots

    Heres a newbie break down:
    A. Leveling different items to max gets you Mastery points. Using formas (resets an item for benefits) does not take from mastery you have, but you also don't earn any more mastery from that item.
--- 1. Mastery unlocks rank ups, which increases your permanent mod point minimums.
    B. Get to Mars quick so you can start getting Void Relics. This is the loot box system and you'll use this to get all of the cool stuff for free, but for now you just want to farm them to sell to other players for Platinum (IRL monetary currency) to expand frame and weapon slots.
--- 1. Void Relics have level tiers (Lithe < Meso < Neo < Axi). Since all of the cool stuff requires usually requires Neo and Axi, don't sweat them until you've unlocked more of the solar system.
--- 2. There is an upgrade system to void relics. When doing any relic mission (whether you have a relic or not) you'll get Void Traces. Void traces are used to increase the chances for the rare item in the relics.
    C. Do the Nightwave challenges. Nightwave at specific points in the faction rep gives you a resource called Cred. These are important as Nightwave is the ONLY vendor of Orokin Catalysts (weapons) and Orokin Reactors (Frames) which are a one time use on items to DOUBLE their mod capacity. You can get these two items from other sources, but not nearly as consistent as Nightwave.
    D. Get to Mars and join a Syndicate. Doesn't super matter which one as with some work you can flip flop, but do choose three that don't conflict to level up eventually. By pledging to one, you get rep with that and %50 with another just for doing missions. They are the easiest way to get bulk Void Relics as they sell them in 3 packs in exchange for rep.
    F. Join/make a Clan. Joining is 100x easier BTW. Clans will have a Dojo which you can go to, the dojo will have labs, and you can get new weapons and some frames from the labs for cheap.
--- 1. If you make a clan, structures in the Dojo require 1 Forma (+resources) each to make. So if you haven't gotten into Void Relic farming, do so as it is the only consistent way to get Formas.
--- 2. Do note that all of the frames, weapons, and items require you to have resources to build the labs and then resources to research the items.
    E. Rare/unique Resources.
--- 1. Orokin cells, everywhere but few if any spawn per mission
--- 2. Nueral Sensors, a drop only on Jupiter
--- 3. Argon, only in the void maps and disappears from your inventory at midnight(?) the day after you get it.
--- 4. Tellerium, Rare drop on Grineer sea lab tile sets.
--- 5. Deonite Injectors, blueprint from clans or from weekly events. (Grineer)
--- 6. Fieldron, blueprint from clans or from weekly events. (Corpus)
--- 7. Mutagen Mass, blueprint from clans or from weekly events. (Infested)
--- 8. Forma, blueprints are rewards from certain void relics.
I think those are the basics for advancing quickly with competency.
See you next time, Space Ninjas...

Keep going through the star chart , level weapons and frames until mastery rank 4 and the get your hands on the Hek shotgun. Joining a clan and getting your hands on the warframe Wu Kong will also help you massively 👍

ive been playin for a few years and there are still things im learning, asking the public chat and using the wiki helps a lot, learning the modding elemental damage and the different setups for different enemy types helps, when you get to the clan part I really feel the game pick up for me

As I read in a meme post. The character select is inverted. The sword guy is for gunplay and the gun guy is for melee play.

Warframe and destiny vet here. After master rank 2 you will be able to trade with players. With trading players can use Platinum to trade for items or items for items.
But as for what to look forward to, do your best to get some crowd control weapons and possibly spend some time in a Clans Dojo and use the obstacle course to further learn the platforming.

It starts to truly ramp up around Uranus and the quests in that portion of the star chart. Main goal should be to unlock all the planets, but its very much do what you want type game

Heads up. Once you beat vor. That “linear path” you were talking about goes out the window entirely. Everything is “off the beaten path” just play it like Mario clearing the level nodes on the maps until another quest shows up

19:00 idk if other people pointed that out, but you were in a squad with another player for some time already, and he opted for that mission
While you're in the liset(your own ship) you will see the profile icons of the squad in the top left corner

It's a good choice you chose volt,it's really hard to get him afterwards if you didn't pick him from the start

Yeah that's what I heard. Having a blast so far. I honestly can't believe nobody recommended this game to me sooner.
