Skaldak should feel honored, very few people scare the Doctor as much as he did in this clip. Of course, it doesn't help that the officer who tried to fry Skaldak gave the Doctor a reason to be afraid.
He initially seemed excited. After all, it was like meeting an old friend.
What I like about it is that Skaldak didn’t show an ounce of smiley arrogance unlike other villains, which is always an effective way of irritating me. Skaldak on the other hand showed no chuckle, no smile, he’d insult his opponents often in the episode but he’d never look down on them. He would consider himself and them on equal levels, never overconfident.
It’s what I love about this episode really
The Doctor was afraid of Skaldak from the moment he heard his name, moments before Skaldak got tasered.
The Doctor hasn't seen an Ice Warrior since his 3rd incarnation so i can only imagine how it felt seeing one again for hundreds of years
Actually, the Tenth Doctor did as well in the big Finish Audios.
@@backtothefutureman1 not 100% canon. But i like big finish. The only ones that are canon is the 8th doctor as his audios are the only ones referanced in the show.
"Time travelers?"
"We arrived out of thin air, you just saw it happen"
"I didn't!"
"Your problem mate not mine" hahahahaahah
All these years I've longed for the Doctor to meet the Russians of the Soviet Union. Never have I expected something as awesome as this episode.
YES Maybe i'll start watching doctor who again now that I've heard this
They allready met them in the curse of frenric on 1989
According to an audio drama called "The Shadow Vortex", The Doctor has encountered the Soviets before, they were all just off-screen encounters which I believe means that it doesn't matter how hush-hush UNIT tries to keep the existence of The Doctor and the TARDIS, every intelligence agency known to man knows about The Doctor and the TARDIS.
The Third Doctor Adventures recently did one as well.
'It never rains...but it pours!!' My favorite line from the whole of Series 7!!
The reaction to seeing Skaldak is fantastic. Well done Matt Smith
Cold war is such and underrated episode in my opinion.
It's my personal favorite episode of the 11th doctors run. Thanks to the return of the Ice warriors
The ice warriors arent returning again unfortunately
The tactical Shark
Oh really? this upcoming Saturday says differently :P
PikaPlayzHD cybermen disguised as ice warriors, thats why the trailer has cybermen music playing
This was a good episode, but Vincent and the Doctor was easily one of show's finest episodes ever. I'm ready for this weekend though - Empress of Mars!
That shot at 2:03 is BEAUTIFUL
Yeah
Never watched the Classic series, but have done my research, and it's always great to see an old enemy make a return for new audiences to enjoy. Got really excited when I saw him for the first time
My favorite season 7 episode along with "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship", "The Bells of Saint John", and "Nightmare in Silver".
Funny thing is... The actor who plays Captain Zhukov, Liam Cunningham..... His son actually went to my school!
His reaction to scaldak sold it for me I really loved matt after this
I love how the doctor just turns around smiles and says “ahhh”.
Davos SEAworth at SEA. Nice.
Davos seaworth is often at sea
And lord edmure tully, the tullies with a trout as their sigil. Quite funny
This was pretty cool. And i liked how Ser Davos Seaworth, the onion knight, plays the captain of a USSR submarine...
Edmure Tully misses his father's pyre ship and Electrocutes the Ice Warrior
With Daemon Targaryen
Imagine if the humans of the Mars One mission encountered the Ice Warriors...
Funny you should say that. There is a bit of discussion over whether or not the Ice Warriors were responsible for the trapping of the parasitic organism encountered on Bowie Base One. Considering it was trapped in an Ice Glacier on Mars, You can easily make the connection.
Petercob Yes, the idea was that the Ice Warriors froze their planet to stop the Flood from spreading.
Stephen Murphy well know the humans are on Mars invading the Ice Warriors
Except they are all from Victorian times
Boi
Lol, we will be in like 4 years.
This was a great episode, with a nice return of a the ice warriors :)
Last seen when?
Wolfy Smith Like season 3 of classic Who? Something like that
danamaniac66
Series YYY; The Monster of Peladon
Wolfy Smith Season 11
GreekHouseEffect
Spring 1974. If I remember correctly.
I love it when matt hears hissing sound thinking it gas lol
The part I like is when he turn around see the ice warrior smiles crack me up
I would love to see an ancient war between the Ice Warriors, Silurians and the Sea Devils
A big lizard free-for-all?
@@ThePathStrider i would like to see this come to life as a 15th Doctor story soon.
I love how Edmure Tully is still cocking stuff up in other shows.
This ice warrior killed three daleks with his bare hands
I mean to be fair it was the weaker classic series Daleks.
How do you know??? Lore plz
@@dmaxwell910901 It was still Daleks, not many people could literally tear open the casing with thier bare hands.
This is in my all-time Who Top Ten. I had issues with Moffat, but he did the return of the Ice Warriors absolutely brilliantly. Superb episode. "It's not a mammoth!"
We hate Chinball now.
Loved Smith's acting in this scene.
I don't care what anyone says, this beast of a baddie is what I call an Ice Warrior! Especially compared to the old ones, which were admittedly a bit too fat and hairy for me to be able to take them seriously.
I Agree With Every Word
Actually it's body armour is just a shell.
The old ones were a little... silly, but this one is truly terrifying.
And they finally have proper hands
Skaldak speaks russian...
Or russians speak marsian...
doctor and clara used tardis to speak russian...
The TARDIS tranlates all languages into one the person can understand...
***** But only for the one, who was in her.
Saucy Salamander I meaned russian=marsian.
I'm sorry, this voice is amazing, I was terrified at this ice warrior when this episode was broadcast
there is always some idiot ruining everything especially when everyone is trying to be cautious
I rewatched this episode yesterday. It's a perfect presentation of British actor community and famous TV shows. It has three actors from the Crown, two actors from GOT, plus actors from Victoria and War and Peace...
1:22
The way he says Ah😂😂😂
Hey Davos! Blunt as always!
Spiderkillers, Inc Thank YOU! I couldn't get it out of my head, picking that I knew that captain!
My man the Onion Knight.
I can’t wait for him to lose most of his limbs and become Ser Davros.
Liam Cunningham was also Mad-Dog MacGuire in The Mummy Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor.
Monster in a confined space. Proper Dr Who story!
They later returned again, in 2017's Empress of Mars
This was my first Doctor Who episode, and it had me hooked from the start!
Sir Davos 😂👌🏼
Loved this story. One of the many from Matt Smith's era I keep returning to. :)
3:00 Prince Philip meets Prince Philip
This episode was a little bit disapointing. It had the chance to be really good but it was cut too short, only if it was a two-parter could it have improved, don't get me wrong it was quite a good episode but if it was longer it could've been better. It had a great senario to have a really tense atmosphere- an Ice Warrior running around on an almost sunken submarine, it's intentions unknown and it's whereabouts unknown, the submarine is badly damaged and in dire need of repair, it's a race against time. Plus we could have had a lot more character development, I know there just secondary characters and it wasn't likely we'd see them again but it would be good to feel scared for them. Plus, the Ice Warrior could've been put to it's full potential as it was a savage that had nothing to loose, after it came out its armour, and the crew would constantly need to check their backs in case they suddenly felt a large hand press against their shoulder.
I felt the same about the Time of the Doctor. It was good, but if it had been a two parter, as with the End of Time, it could have been better!
That criticism can be applied to every episode in 2012-2013. All the stories in the series In that period of time felt rushed and could have been better if they had more time In the episode to include more scenes, lines or another episode to make the story feel complete. It's because of this is why I feel series 7 is the weakest series of Nuwho, because there isn't an episode which I thought was outright amazing (day of the Doctor being the exeption, but that one isn't in the series boxset) Cold War and dinosaurs on a spaceship, I feel are the best episodes in the series. I wouldn't call them classics but they were the most entertaining and the ones I had the least amount of problems with.
the directing was really good in this episode
What's wrong with Skaldak's rough voice? If you watch any Ice Warrior episode on OldWho and Big Finish, their voice should sound like...like...like Harry speaking Parseltongue. Oh, you get the picture.
I'd assume that not every Ice Warrior sounds the same. Not every human is identical, right? It's probably diversity in the species.
+Zane Fasel And then there's technology :p
+The-Kris555
Yeah, his "Universal Translator" might have been damaged. Makes sense, given 5000 years of neglect.
He also did just wake up after a 5000 year long nap in the ice. You try singing soprano with your vocal chords iced like that. Probably like trying to speak after a night of drinking nothing but gold glitter vodka shots.
The Ice Warriors are underrated, in all honesty
Who like this Redesign for the Ice Warriors
This was such a good episode
2:51 When that one troll doesn't go with the plan on a video game.
Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerooooooooooooyyyyyyy Jenkiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiins!!! XD
2:30 Madness... THIS IS GALLIFREEEEY!
This was definitely one of season 7's highlights!
The Doctor: It's an Ice Warrior!
CZcams captions: It's a Nice Warrior!
My first Doctor Who episode. I miss 2013.
Brilliant episode
I wonder how old the Ice Warriors are as a species, because if they are younger than the Silurians, then we have a VERY interesting possibility on our hands, suppose if they are younger, when the moon was coming into orbit suppose a few tribes of Silurians used their new technology to make an exodus from their "doomed" home-world and start a new colony on Ares (or Mars if you prefer the standard version)
Mars had The Ice Warriors, Sutekh and The Flood. Humans better beware.
God I love that opening shot
Really good episode, the professor guy was also a great character, sad he didn't stay at all.
Just watching this as we speak. Enjoying it so far.
I could never take the classic Ice Warriors serious, this guy however I took very very serious.
Favorite Clara and 11 episode!
Now the question remains, which classic monster is making a return next?
I'm exited to see which one comes back. The classic Zygons returned already. I kind of want them to bring The Monk back.
I'm not sure they can... Oh wait! Moffet's tearing up DW history! OF course they can! And why not bring back the Rani while your at it Moffet.
Brickacron MoffAt has said, multiple times, there would be no point in bringing the Rani back, since most of the general public wouldn't recognise her...
I was in a angry rant at him. I just want Every episode from The Snowmen to The Time Of The Doctor to be erased from history and replaced with something better!
But I guess Nightmare in Silver can stay. It's been they're best portrail in the newer episodes.
I quite like S7 as a whole, and in my opinion the last two specials were fantastic. Also thank you, you're like the only person aside from myself that likes Nightmare in Silver.
This design is very cool
Is the bearded guy at 0:41 Davos Seaworth?!
Yep. Same actor, Liam Cunningham.
He is also in Game of Thrones
sophie woodman As Davos Seaworth...
The Onion Knight himself
This episode has 2 prince philips and a king charles
One of the best episodes of series seven, considering how dreadfully awful some of the episodes were.
Poor ice warrior
"He has a name, and a rank, and deserves our respect!"
"Skaldak."
"...What did you say?"
"I am Grand Marshall Skaldak."
"... oh no."
That's the nicest way to express that look on his face.
Skaldak is one awesome Ice Warrior
It's funny actually, a few years before this episode, I had imagined Doctor Who doing an episode set on a submarine (even though the Third Doctor had already been on a submarine in "The Sea Devils"). And now here it is. It just shows that Doctor Who can do ANYTHING, another reason why I love the show so much.
Andrew Chapman Hi again.
AlchemistOfNirnroot Hi there
Who your fav doctor by the way my fav is David and Jon you yours
@@husenomar630 Sorry I'm 3 years late replying, Tom Baker's my favourite.
I love when old monsters come back. I can't wait til' the Autons return!
They already returned
They were the first ones, in Rose. Would like them, along with the Sontarans and Silurians, get a new episode
I would like to see The Sea Devils, The Daemons, The Rani, The Zarbi, The Axons, Sill & The Mentors, The Toy Maker, Scaroth, The Sandminer Robots and Sutekh return to the Doctor Who series.
@@dtaylor4552 2 of 10, though I'm not sure Legend of the Sea Devils is something you would hope for. As happy as I am to see the Zarbi listed they are ultimately just beasts in the command of the animus, so I feel it would be better to see return. Also the Menoptera, even just in a 'diverse city of aliens' type context it would be great to see them.
The first 7 seconds sounds like the Tripod noise from War of the Worlds, a little reference maybe as both species were from Mars.
Love this episode, cold war is the most interesting period of history
RIP David Warner
I love the fact that everyone pulls guns on them
Sir Davos sure hates monsters related to ice
I haven't seen any of these new episodes of Doctor Who. I did not know they brought the Ice Warriors back. That is a good thing!
Shut up, Rose Tyler fanboy.
@@mayotango1317 I didn't know your mother's name was Rose Tyler. You might be my son then so you shut up my child.

Doctor *It doesn't rain...But it pours*
sir onion knight AND Stanis :D
The Doctor having a conversation with Ser Davos.
This definitely took place after "The Dance of Dragons", at least of Ser Davos’s Composition is anything to go by...
Davos has a temper, who knew.
This episode has 2 Prince Philip and a Charles plus queen Victoria
0:50 James Norton!
Why does this fell like the 1950’s version of The Thing in some places. Is that just me or...
Ser Davos got his fingers back
Bernard Bresslaw was Varga in the Patrick Troughton episode.
The Doctor must get really tired that everyone always keeps pulling their weapons at the earliest opportunity.
I loved this episode but surely they'd have all caught hypothermia given they were soaking wet from water in the North Pole for the entire episode.
Sorry to point out the continuity but jump cut from 3:26. The commander just teleports next to the Doctor?
No one likes you...
MR MUNROE
Just this clip is better than everything Dr Woke has appeared in!
Great scene. I wish this episode was written a bit better cos towards the end it was all too convenient. Awesome base under siege idea though!
BRILLENT EPISODE!!! =D
Davos Seaworth, the Captain.
The Ice Warriors can't speak normally in our atmosphere, they whisper
Doc sure has a point, human are stupid half the time. I mean why is it that when he clearly shows he knows what he is talking about, no body listens?
Calm down Davos.
I gotta stop watching these throwbacks, they're not helping at all *sigh*, BBC your such an enabler!!! Maybe one perfect day but today's not that day!, it’s too soon watching these makes me such a sad kitty. e-_-e Jerks! Matt!!!!!! Miss you "ol' buddy, ol' pal, ol' friend of mine" sad kitty sad kitty (:~ ( # I cry now...
Does the old archeologist sound familiar DC fans?
I'd say Matt Smith loved doing an Ice Warrior episode giving he loved the Patrick Troughton Doctor
Clara lets it down.
I like the Clara after the 'mystery' of her is solved.
The one before 'Name of the Doctor' is incredibly annoying. Her humour just doesn't work.
Daryl Baxter I feel the other way round weirdly. I found her incredibly irritating in Into the Dalek, Listen and The Caretaker and Hell Bent etc. but thought she was lovely in this half-series.
The Surgeon i think she felt more like an actual human being in season 8. Before she was just the impossible girl who tried to be smart.
The ice warriors sound like predators.
This is my favourite episode ever!!
The ice warriors are da best!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ssssssssss
Bring back the Ice Warriors for Series 9! They're officially 1 of my favorite villians of the show!
They did bring them back for one episode and they also added some more insight on their hierarchy, such as they are ruled by a queen.
They did return in Series 10.
@@MondySpartan And so did the Alpha Omega.
lol... 15 seconds unskippable apple ad on a BBC channel... how?
