Lalo Schifrin is up there with the likes of Morricone, Jarre, Williams and Goldsmith when it comes to film soundtracks. Genius composer and this is my favourite.
Crest Theater in Downtown Sacramento, CA. was 1 of the theaters I saw Rollercoaster @ the other movie theater no longer exists. It closed down. It was over by Arden Fair Mall shopping Center near Cal Expo
I remember watching the Trailer for this at The Movies back in 1977. I Immediately recognized the last Theme Park which was Magic Mountain and the Rollercoaster was the Revolution that Timothy Bottoms who is from my Hometown of Santa Barbara California wanting to Blow it up.
For its time a very good film , home grown terrorism , now what the US is very scared about , the same not in scale but still very apt Tim Robbins film Arlington road
Faint Haunting Memory of Bottoms' Missing Eyes... Intro: Cue Lalo: Excitedly sitting on the edge of the bed, frenziedly pulling on some well-worn sneakers, softly tantalizing golden-hued streams of a June sun shimmering hazily through the bedroom window. A twelve-year-old filmic mind is edgy, reeling with anticipation, as I readied myself to go solo to a movie "Downtown" for the first time. A prepubescent "Event" of the highest order; the euphoric suspense of possibilities was unbearable, the perfectly ideal pairing of 'Coasters and ""SENSURROUND"" promising a sonorous seismic spectacular like never before. Have never forgotten this idyllic n' cherished childhood film-going memory. Had the privilege n' pleasure to experience it on the Big-Screen a Second time the following summer in Re-Release, disappointingly devoid of "Sensurround", in a (James Goldstone / Universal) Hard-Top Double-Bill with "Swashbuckler". Curiously, it appears all existing prints are now strangely shorn of Timothy's final chilling Close-Up...FADE-OUT.
Great movie and to my knowledge there has never been another movie with this type of story line that I know of but watch Hollywood remake it one day....
Does somebody know, where I get the original complete track of the ORGAN playing in the beginning? For me, thats the sweetest of all. The song is genius. I love waltz :)
Hey Horatio Hornblower the name of the band that was playing in the movie was Sparks and the song was called "Big Boy", you can find the CD amazon.com. They had a song on the radio back in the eighties called "I predict" and "Cool Places" with Jane Wiedlin from the Go Go's. You might remember those tunes.
Horatio Hornblower I just remember them singing… "BIG boooooyyyyzzzz…BIG boooooyyyyyzzzz!!" over and over and over again!! x^D I think they were a real band, and it was a real hit! HA! It was "Sparks," from their album, "Big Beat!" ;^D czcams.com/video/DL3kSSZrAUI/video.html
Great, underrated thriller with a kick-ass soundtrack!
