Little story over on the Tarkov side of things today..
CERO's stance on gore is the very reason why DBZ Kakarot was the first Japanese-developed Dragon Ball game to feature Future Gohan with his arm missing instead of having it limp.
That graffiti story is honestly hilarious. It's definitely just a coincidence with no ill intent because the studio is not an American one. I could see there being a case if this was an American studio behind the game where one artist just tried to do something cheeky but this is clearly just cultural obliviousness. I'm reminded of that amazing Linus hard r clip.
Anglo-Asians are a notorious anti-Black element as well though...
When a product like that reach end of life the server should be made public. It is likely a problem of licensing preventing even that.
We really need some kinda preservation laws tbh.
I’m lucky two of my super old fave games that were online only even have enough of a community behind em to reupload/rebuild em.
I wonder if I’ll get to play destiny 1 after those servers go down :’(

Just another reason for kids obsessed with working for free for their faborite devs to think about it a little harder. You arent paid, and your work will disappear without a trace eventually and its completely legal for a company that supports LBP or roblox to do that.

@@zetsumeinaito lot of PC games are being removed in a fast rate to. Steam is a good company but if they ever turn villain they can delete alot of games if they wanted to as well
@@freeweights101 Unlike console, the user power is strong. You can get specific game builds that you prefer even if it's not 'officially acceptable'. Which means even if a game updates randomly(Skyrim) you can just play the old build with your old mods, and they'll always work.
Another example is Palworld. In older builds you could 'catch' bosses, and it was patched out now. I own Palworld, but I still got the old build just to get the bosses, then port over my save to my official copy.
I own a game, and I should be able to play it how I want, which is impossible to do on console.
Besides, "games getting removed" was never the argument. The argument was a game change that causes user content to disappear. That would include mods, and even relates to Nintendo copyright removing mods from Gary's Mod.
Unlike console, PC lets you just grab those mods and user content from non publisher sites anyway.

The fact that Stellar Blade even exists as it does is surprising, but let's not forget that Sony is still very selective about what they censor or not, Stellar Blade is fine but recently released Bunny Garden is somehow only available on Switch and PC, I wonder why.
If you've been following niche japanese devs you know the answer already, Sony.
That little big planet News hits really fucking hard. One of my favorite games of all time. I made so So SOO many friends and made so many good fuckkng memories on that game.
And not only that but it was just a really good fucking game that pushed the boundaries of creativity and wonder. This news has genuinely made me depressed.
If not even for me im sad for the people who will never get to experience LBP that will never even have a chance of knowing what they've missed out on because it's gone. Damn man... I don't have enough words to describe my sadness, this was a piece of my childhood thrown into the fucking garbage God damn.
tbh someone writing a "hard" graffiti next to a big neon R is something that would 100% happen irl, too
I think people need to stop reading into every little thing and looking for reason to hate on something or cause problems. I wouldn't have even thought of it that way.
in usa maybe, i never even heard of Hard R before, and why would it have anything to do with the n word?
@@Dennan The term "Hard R" is meant to, without saying it, refer to the more disparaging form of the n word. As opposed to saying it with an "-a" at the end, which isn't disparaging, but still off-limits to people who aren't black. They are both n words, but they have entirely different context and history. Typically people would say "n-word with a hard R" remove ambiguity, for when direct quoting would make people uncomfortable or upset.

This (and the fact that games are now released buggy AF) is why I've suffocated my FOMO and don't buy games at launch. I fully expect Sony to go that route too at some point, but Microsoft will do it first if not nix the entire console for a SteamLink like system while Nintendo and Sony move toward digital-only consoles.
Either way it's bad for consumers and we need congress (in US) and the EU to pass digital ownership laws as soon as possible.
Why are you calling placing of that graffiti next to a neon R "a mistake" ?
mistake is when you do something wrong, they did absolutely nothing wrong by having those two next to each other
there is a saying in my country that roughly translates to; if you look at a carrot and get horny, there is something wrong with you and not the carrot
this is where this saying fits perfectly
Perfect analogy
Lol wtf
It really feels like someone wanted to make sure that *something* was censored in that game. Just to spite the player-base.
A Hard "C"arrot. Got Hard Laugh From That.
It wasn't a mistake, it was "unintentional", and the only people that viewed it that was was Journalists. It's literally stated that there are multiple graffiti just like the HARD one around and this wasn't a unique placement, it seems when the environment was designed, these were pre-designed by the art team, and then placed by the level designers in locations they thought were appropriate. As stated by Bellular, English is unlikely everyone at the studio's first or second language, nor would they know any Western euphemisms or even be aware of cultural, historical, or other related issues. It's like someone in the states tattooing the Chinese character for "Shit" on their body and calling it cool, a Westerner would be oblivious to that. I'd imagine someone just thought the art looked dope and wanted to place it next to the shop, they likely know what "HARD" means, and having that as you walk by to the shop probably seemed cool in their mind. This is a classic infuriating case of Hanlon's Razor: assuming malice instead of stupidity/ignorance/etc. In this case it's not even ignorance or obliviousness, why should they have to be aware of Western bullshit to begin with?
Like, what the fuck is wrong with people, if that's the first thing they thought when they saw this, it's a serious "them" issue. Cause' remember "everything is sexist, everything is racist, blah blah blah cry me a fucking river".
That saying also is right on the money, it's like looking at a grown woman and immediately thinking of someone who isn't an adult, it's incredibly creepy. Thinking Eve looks like a child is totally absolutely fucking racist and when they are presented with any eastern woman they immediately think the same thing. I've seen European women, Latinas, and Russians get the same shit too.
Can very safely say the "Hard R" incident was not intended by the Stellar Blade devs. I have a number of friends outside America that were confused by the backlash as they didn't know the potential meaning either. And as a black person myself I didn't even care. I doubt most of us did. Interestingly enough, the only people I've personally seen online get mad about it never mention their race or are straight up white. I swear this savior mentality is only painting a bigger target on our backs because people keep thinking we're the ones getting riled up when the majority of us either laugh at this sort of thing or aren't bothered by it.
And the change I wouldn't call "censorship" either; at least not extreme. I don't like censorship in any form and whenever Stellar Blade comes out on PC, if someone makes a mod bringing that "Hard R" back in, I'll happily install it myself. But I can understand why they changed it. It's one of those cultural things that means nothing to one but something bad to another. It also has zero impact on the game and doesn't hurt the integrity of the game's vision in general.
Happy to see the game's getting praises. As mentioned I'm definitely grabbing it whenever it hits PC.
Finally, a reasonable take! Twitter people are treating DESCRIPTIONS of slurs as outright usage. It's always dumb activists. How can someone be a grown man and get mad at... this?
I think part of the problem is the assumption by a lot of twitter that everyone has the same knowledge and cultural context as the USA as it is the dominate cultural lens on twitter. I'm not from the USA so when I first saw the HARD R thing my brain first went to does this something to do with the R word. Its not that the N word isn't a slur here it definitely is but its an imported one from the USA so we don't have all the different knowledge on the variations of it that exist.
Also if the developer did want to put some bigoted graffiti in the game odds are most westerns wouldn't have noticed as the studio is Korean and odds are they would have used used bigoted slang that is local to Korea not the USA.
It's the terminally online that are the problem especially with their takes on Orcs or goblins supposedly looking like certain groups of people when they were the only ones even thinking that to begin with. They expose themselves quite easily and pretend they are the saviors of humanity.
I totally get your point but i'd still consider it censorship because it's not just the US version that has been changed to accomodate some randoms on tweeter that can't get over N or R because they're too racist.
Btw they replacer Hard by Crime and Crimer is apparently a slang for "a black criminal" so i don't know if it's intentional or not but if it is thoses tweetos have been had.
the only reason they hate it is to hide their own internal racism
I loved LBP this is sad af I can't believe Sony is trying to sell modern live services when they couldn't even bother to maintain a past one...

When company’s use user generated content in a game, like Halo uses forge maps, the creators should receive some sort of compensation. I think non-promoted mods are different.
Even if it’s something small like in-game currency, or a special edition copy, etc.
Why? They are doing it voluntarily, likely because they enjoy it.
@@MrMpa31 sure, but if a company’s going to use a creators work as marketing or in game content with an offer for compensation then it’s basically a version of voluntary serfdom. I’m not saying that they shouldn’t make stuff, just that they should be offered compensation when those items are used to sell the product.
Paid mods were a mistake
that is 100% not viable epic is doing it that way and it's loosing them massive sums of money only the Roblox model of letting creators monetize in game is sustainable remember hosting the map on a server and storage costs are eaten by the devs forge doesn't really make halo money if it cost them money they would cut it fast they are ok with the server costs i guess but having to pay creators directly wouldn't work and it's not sustainable

Its the same with Digital media, you have to rely on a server that can be taken down at any moment.

I am with you. Sometimes people over-analyze things like that. They try to find meaning in something that has zero meaning. When it does have meaning such as what people are claiming usually the people saying said thing will have a long past history of them saying similar things. There's a limited number of people even in the US that'd would've seen the "Hard R" thing and take it ad intentionally offensive. The context for why it's offensive would even come off as ridiculous outside of reddit. Most've been a slow news day for some people.

I think the journalists were trying to scrutinize every little thing, because places like Kotaku clearly wanted the game to fail. Seems like they break similar stories within minutes of each other somehow. They probably told Sony the same thing and Sony and Sony told Shift Up to change it.

There are 3 elements to the Stellar blade Censorship.
They change Graffiti which I think most people get.
They toned down gore so it is interesting to see this was a Japan influence thing.
But they absolutely also toned down costumes.
I think the rage is because they said they would not censor and I think there was a push to support them for this, and a lot of people are frustrated by Sony censoring so much as of late, I mean you get more of the original vision on Nintendo now. And this sort of bait and switch will not have have a positive outcome if this was a marketing ploy it just stain this franchise and Sony as whole for something no one would have cared about if they had not made the claim. I doubt it was exclusively because of a mod. No company wants to run their servers forever especially when there's no profit, it's why every online only game have subscriptions &/or dlc.
But an 'honest mistake' from a nonsensical claim leading to the game being changed? Sounds more like they're trying to start a slippery slope to censor more stuff.
Heads up, Media Molecule had no involvement in LittleBigPlanet 3. A majority of LittleBigPlanet 3's development & support was done by Sumo Digital.

Nah that's just you being out of the loop in that sense it's not obscure or niche haha, they definitely are over reacting and reaching for justifications.
