HAHAHAHAHA man, i just notice this
My friends and I were in the crowd at Marquee NYC (the second show Luke played in this Vlog) and we can confirm that Luke, 100%, successfully spotted the energy! It was our first time seeing you live and we had a great time!
6:32 What the fu*k :D
Hay Luke...i wos wondering how to get songs legally without spending to much money. I mean as a dj i cant buy every thing on itunes. Are there alternatives? And how do you geht your songs in high quality. Bc if u rip them from soundcloud or youtube the quality is not good.
NewEra CREACER XD
LMAO! I saw that too and then in the next sho someone sick cut the driver off haha
Lmao😂😂
Mexican driver are more careless than Indians...
NewEra CREACER song at 00:20

Laidback Luke: Fender Bender creator. Hahaha 6:31
I’ve just started watching your vlogs and am really enjoying them! My favorite part was at the very end when you gave specific examples of what to play for different crowds. Thank you for these!
Playing music for the crowd is the most important part. LBL I've seen you multiple times and you have always nailed this. You're so talented, keep doing what you do. Much thanks and praise
I'd love a part 2 to this! A few weeks ago, I was playing a gig, and third of the crowd was loving most of the tracks, but the other two thirds were dying off. Any more advice on reading the crowd and responding is very helpful!
So true. I'm 31 and have been listening to you since I was 20. Love the groovy house tracks and throwbacks you play. Can't stand the new edm trap stuff. You're the man Luke!
Please do nr 2 of this video! Really liked this one!
I have a lot of respect for you and your craft. And the fact that you can have your DJ life and be a dedicated Dad is an inspiration. It shows that you can have a family life while in this industry. Love your videos man, keep doing your dream :) Much respect
Nice to see that people are so into you that they bump into each other in traffic jams! Crowdreading and feeling the energy is vital for a DJ! You explain it in a easy way!
Love this video it's exactly what I have been wondering how to do!tips were great and I think you should have a part 2 to this topic. You can even share some events where you successfully read the crowd. I will never forget the time I saw you at create in Hollywood. The dance floor was so packed that these 3 guys were about to get into a big fight I remember you saw that then dropped some cumbias mashup and everyone went crazy! It's like they completely forgot about fighting and started jumping together. Most awesome moment ever!!
I've been following your blogs and I have learned so much, thanks a lot, I also was there at daydream, finally got the chance to see you play, I'm glad that you enjoyed your experience in Mexico, I hope you come back soon, you are an amazing artist!
you made a good point! you can't keep the energy full throttle the whole set. I've described it for years as, you have to keep it like a roller coaster ride. what fun is a roller coaster that just goes straight up or just stays flat. the fun is in the ups and downs and twists and turns. and you spoke on bringing the energy down, which I too have talked about it as, when you come down it only makes that much more fun to come back up again. roller coaster.
Still awesome advice 5 years later....as it will always be. Thanks so much!
Great vlog Luke very inspiring and accurate! Another vlog about preparing playlists so it’s easy and quick to find the next track for the right feeling of energy and style would be a great one. I’d like to see how you do it.
Im happy to see that you put my home town in your vlog especially since you murdered the show that night, one that ill never forget. Oh and thank you so much for the encore, hope you come back to slc soon!!
Already hyped for part 2, amazing stuff, learned a lot in the vlog
Not only is it a pleasure to watch these Vlogs but also so useful and informative! Thanks keep em coming 🙏🏻
This is something that I struggle with sometimes. I’m learning more and more everyday though. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Luke! It helps a lot :)
A part 2 sounds absolutely awesome. Good on you for making this video. Crowd reading is a dying art and we should not just accept that as part of "the evolution of the scene".
This video is awesome and will definitely help with some future shows, thanks luke
I love Luke's videos gives good info and great music at the same time
Hi Luke,Love watching your VLOG’s giving us so much useful information to improve as DJ’s
Just wanted to say thank you!
Shoutout all the way from South Africa!🇿🇦
love these old vlogs
Thank you for this video Sir Luke! I just started my dj journey here in Japan. It's somewhat difficult to read the crowd because of the taste in music and language barrier. This vlog helped me a bunch. Thanks so much!
yes please, a second part would be great! also, something thats always adressed is how to recognize if a crowd does or doesnt like your current music, but if they dont, how can i find something that they enjoy without losing their attention?
Please make a part 2 of this and thanks for such a nice video it was worth watching 😊
Yeah pls do a part 2!!🙏🏻
Hey man!! Huge Fan.. It feels great to see no matter how high a person can fly but still, is always there to share even the most basic knowledge to the world.. thanks man! keep inspiring.
love this vlog, laidback luke the very best
Awesome video dude, really liked the tips about maintaining the energy. Would you mind doing tips for how to effectively use energy when writing songs?
HUGE love from Salt Lake City! Your vlogs are the best, hands down, and my friends and I enjoyed your show in this video alot! Not the first time most of us have seen you either! Thank you for your inspiration!
So much inspirational information! Thanks
Laid... You are the most complete dj. Never change... We love you
Would love to see a part II of this!!
Awesome! Can't wait for part II
Well done LL. As always good info and a pleasure to hear your Vlogs
I DJ different crowds all the time and would LOVE a part 2 to this!
Good to see you enjoyed the crowd in Mexico! It's insane to think that you were in my country but I was not there to see you live, I literally have no other DJ I'd like to see live more than you, I will manage to catch you live one day!
Greetings Luke!
Great vlog topic Luke and you re absolutely right; you can only be as good as your arsenal! Thanks for sharing!
6:34 this crowd is smashing it

Infinite Animations Nice folder specifications
yess !
As @brusuro said - "nice folder specifications". Thank you so, so much!!!
gives a good idea how to make a music folder tx 👍
Another crowd-reading vlog please, that has been absolutely helpful :D Thank you very much ;)
Thank you LL for your amazing tips.
What a guy! Touring and teaching us at the same time 👏🏻 salute sir!
Love these videos specially for the bangers you show us 🔥
Loved this vlog! Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🤗
Part 2 for sure, love your knowledge 👌🏻
Hey man I was wondering if you could make a vlog explaining how you come up with the song choice for your sets. Is it venue style? Audience that your playing to? How do you decide what you are going to play in a set?
You went to play at my hometown in Puebla, MX! I wish I knew ahead of time that you were playing at Daydream festival!! Always looking forward to your videos!
always good, all your videos are gold.
thanks for sharing this.
and for next week, could you talk about beat matching by ear :D
i like how you talk about music and your crowd. you really love your hobby-ish job. :) Hope to see you in May at Emporium.
This is pure gold. Thank uou
I had a blast opening for you in Salt Lake City! Utah loves their bass music and you killed it!
Dj's nowadays have forgotten that they have to read the crowd and make them go with you. When I see most of the dj's doing their gigs, they just play what they do in their hometowns and some other places rather than reading the crowd. Guys it might be hard to read the crowd in the first place, But once you learn, people will love you. Thankyou LAIDBACK LUKE for vlogging on this particular topic. Eagerly waiting for part 2.
Video about Tips & Tricks to beat matching by ear, and not watching the bpms!!!
yeah, thats the thing i most struggle with
to be honest adjust the cue mix to your liking. so you can hear both songs . its really usefull
watching the time-line of the tracks and know which are those tracks u gonna play (future house 126 bpms, trance 134 bpm, hardstyle 150 bpm, for example)
Sobrini check out dj tutor ellaskins channel
giannis krok yeah, but it is hard to say when the bpm is good, while trying to keep them matched
Hey Luke how do you organise all those 3500 Tracks to quickly find what you need during a show (by genre, bpm, release?)
Really good question !
I'd arrange by energy, feeling and key
Pre-made files with what you want to play most or the ones that are most banging, based on where you're playing that night could help you figure out what to make it. So if youre playing for 1 hr and each song is 3.5 to 4 mins and youre mostlikely only going to use 2.5 mins of it youd need about 30 to 40 tracks
Ahah, everybody wnts to know🤷🏻♂️😜😄
Sick vlog as always! What advice would you give for mixing & changing genres during a set?
Part 2 needed!!
Awesome video I’ve seeing you at EDC this year and enjoyed your set. I’m just like the Mexican crowd we don’t really like to listen to the Mexican music because my family plays it all the time lol but would like to listen to more classics or new songs that you have. I feel like we get a lot of the same songs on the main stage but I would like a different set from you than the other guys playing at the main stage which is trap/dubstep . Something unique, I hope you read this. Take care Luke! Always looking forward to seeing you when you’re in CA, USA
You’re goals bro. For real
Thanks bro, these were exactly the tips that I needed right now!
Can't wait for the 2017 year mix!!!
I'd love a part 2!
Another 'In my mind' video would be good, great video Luke😊
Waiting part II nice blog!
Thumbs up for a part 2 Luke :D I loved this one. Keep up the awesome work // FLX
good advice here, never find any difficulty while playing although I imagine I would do if it was outside my home country
Great VLOG, reinforced what I thought was right about energy. Hate djs that just go all killer, no filler. The crowd energy needs to be controlled, this makes the drops hit harder and highlights the stand out tracks. Also I like to use bootlegs and remixes to keep different areas of the crowd happy.
Obviously to those djs that prerecord their sets then this VLOG will blow your mind!
Thank you sir, you gave us your quality to know what should be in our mind.🤞
06:32 you saw that right 😂😂
such a great and useful video, keep it up man! thanks a ton!!!
Hi Luke. Would be very interesting to hear about the way you do the old school ridding the pitch technique to find the right BPM. Cheers
please keep going with your vids. love the info.
I think it's funny how you talk about the commercial crowd, but can you go into further details about like a super low club set night where people just don't react at all / how to bring them up after 3-4 songs did not?
Crowd reading has kept me going for two decades now! I love my style but.. I adapt to the crowd because you have to!!!
7:41 Nice shirt ! Dope Hat! Cool Gold Lamp
Loving these videos 😃.
Hey Luke pls. make a video about really necessary Vst Plugins, Sample packs and so on maybe production tricks...🙌
Hey Luke, loved the video this week. I was wondering if you had any advice on keeping your own style while still catering to the crowd. As someone who plays to a younger crowd that really only wants hear rap. I guess it feels like I'm being disingenuous when I'm playing tracks I don't really feel passionate about.
Great advice! Thanks!
Hey Luke! A very interesting video again! I have a question fo you: What recording mode do you use with your Olympus voice recorder to have such a good quality? PCM, anti-rustle, low cut filter or a recording scene? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
The best way to develop reading a crowd skills is to play bar/lounge gigs. The patrons there are almost always composed of a mixed crowd. Also because the venue is so intimate, you can see easily if someone is feeling the song or not.
Thank's for explain this Luke, and I'll wait for your next episode.
Great VLOG LL! When are you going to do the VLOG demos again?
laidback luke, you are a good man
Your best video yet for DJs, you bring a global perspective only a high end DJ can provide. I would subscribe again if i could.
good video man!! thanks for this!!
Oh yes. That was one of your vlogs whose are really good. Keep up the good stuff
hey luke that was Dope and gold Info you shared ... i have a question some artists are having some issues with Ultra Frestival is this festivals management fault or artists ,, some big names are also in it you know ... just a signal would be great !!
Luke you are a true living legend!!
Great stuff!
Yes new vlog🙏!
pls do a video on if you need to know how to play an instrument in order to be a dj or if you need to know the basics about piano?
Hey Luke! You should do a video on how to pick dj gear for beginners and whether or not the pioneer cdjs are worth the price despite all of the pros using them. Should we get a traktor kontrol s4??
Please come to singapore soon!
Hi LL. You always look so sharp and fresh. Could you do a vlog on coping with stress? Btw, what did you do with the old Pioneer gear? Verkocht via Marktplaats? ;)
Thank you for this vlog!! It was very helpfull, keep making this type of vlogs!!!!👍👍
