    Jamming is fun but can be frustrating as well. Sometimes it sounds pretty cool, but sometimes phrasing doesn’t line up or you’re mixing the “wrong parts” (e.g. too much stuff going on). The hard part is not to get discouraged. Usually stepping back helps. :).
    I usually record and listen to these sets to understand what had been good and what didn’t go (that) well.

    Hi. On point 3 you give the advise to make a good arrangement. Do you mean to use the song in a different way. I am always trying to make mini mixes following songs structures but I mostly use pop songs (2-3 min) that are harder to mix halfway. The club songs have more opportunities to mix ( drops, instrumental parts or just plain melodies) What is you advise in this. Great videos! Love the way you teach.

    • @lachlanharris4338

      eq mixing mate, to create a cool set you dont have to have a digital mixer with effects, research your tracks and mixing in key, as well as creating phrasing during transitions. the music and song choices are what makes a good set not the effects you use, they can just emphasise certain areas or help you get out of tricky spots if needed.

    How do you deal with the struggle between mixing your set in key, and building an energy flow? I find if I make a setlist of lets say 20 - 25 songs my ability to direct the flow of energy while attempting to keep things in key is somewhat difficult. I often wind up having to make quite a few choice concerning what track is next based on key because nothing else in the list is going to be harmonic. Then I am stuck dealing with whatever the track does to the energy level. I know I could grab another song but if I run into the issue 4 times in a setlist that could be quite a bit of additional material in the set that I really was not interested in.
    Also when ever I actually plan a set from start to finish the transitions are often very different than just lining up the phrases and starting and stopping the tracks at the right time. For instance I might catch a single bar loop on an outgoing track and adjust the tempo with that loop for 8 bars then drop the next track in at a full on house beat and work the 1 bar loop over the house beat for a couple phrases. I never to that kind of stuff when I am just jamming tracks that have cue points set on the phrases. Is that something you grow into or do you still find your transitions in a preplanned set are more in depth than mixing on the fly with prepared tracks?

    • @nikakebuladze
      @nikakebuladze Před 2 lety +1

      I can say from my little experience that it is something you grow into, every time I thought i knew what I was doing I was suprised that next time I was like wtf, thats itt, at first i was oriented on mixing in key, it is safer to mix, but than you realize that keys are not really the ''key'', you are following the intuition and the vibe of the tracks, play what feels right even though it can not be compatible in key, but You will know how and when to do that if you start to play at first in key, follow the rules and you will know when and how to break them, there are some tips on this channel as well, how keys and energy are related, check it out
