For some reason, animals keep evolving into things that look like crabs, independently, over and over again. What is it about the crab’s form that makes it so evolutionarily successful that non-crabs are apparently jealous of it?

We live downtown in a coastal city so we were far but not too far from the sea. One night, we heard weird scraping sounds from the backyard. My dad and I decided to check it out. We inspected the area with a flashlight and found a large blue shelled creature with very long legs.
Turns out, a coconut crab found its way to our backyard in the residantial area. So yeah, you're not alone in fearing coconut crabs.

It is not only the crab form that seems to be a "strange attractor" . Think how much the sea mammals look similar to a fish when you consider the form of it's ancestor as a land mammal. It is incredible how the evolution converges to the optimal shape for a certain environment (water) even if the origin may be very different.
Sharks, dolphins, and Icthyosaurs come to mind.
PBS didn't knew how important and iconic this video would become.

This is seriously incredible work. I’m fascinated and wonder what other evolutionary convergences exist.
I have noticed that in the past, athletes would warm up by running forwards but nowadays, it is common to see athletes running sideways. If my hypothesis (based on extrapolating such behaviours ) is correct, within the next 10 years we can expect to see athlete's warm ups start to include crab like hand motions.
This will filter down to general population as well as inevitably being adapted by the military as the most efficient way of moving and combat. (It is worth noting that Karate already favours a side-on stance!)

This is literally my favorite CZcams channel, period 😂. I have binge watched for a week or so
I've watched a lot of these videos by now but this is the first one to make me hungry. I actually found myself looking at fascinating fossils and mentally calculating roughly how many millions of years you'd have to wait for butter or even a recognizable lemon.

I'm disappointed with the lack of mention of the pubic louse (yes, they're lice which parasitize your pubic hair), also known as the crab louse.
In facts, lots of lice resemble crabs for some reason, like the hog louse (Haematopinus suis). They have pincers and all.
