Great compilation of life is...I was thinking of going through all episodes to check for this. You did for me! Thank youuu!! Parallelism of life with rivers and seas! Great thank you again!
I was searching for the end music from season 2 of Midnight Diner and stumbled upon your tribute to River Guy. He’s an interesting character and very philosophical about life. Thanks, Claudine. I love the piano music accompaniment. Splendid!
Hi, thanks so much for commenting. Really glad you liked it! The music in the background is Drifter, which is a Kirinji song, but this is a piano cover by Takeshi Senoo.
DoctorDoggmatic I’ll def look up that music. I’d literally just finished season 2 of Midnight Diner when I saw your video. Unfortunately I watched Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories first because I didn’t realize there was a first series. I may have to watch Tokyo Stories again. They’re both very good,. I’m enjoying Asian shows/movies on Netflix and the music.
@@ds7675 I love Japanese music and TV shows. Can't get enough of them! I too watched Tokyo Stories first as I did not realise there was another series before the Netflix one. The River Guy is in the original series all through pretty much and only has a few cameos in Tokyo Stories but he caught my attention and when I saw the original series and reveal his backstory, I was even more thrilled to see him again!
DoctorDoggmatic Yes, River Guy just sort of pops up in the first episode he’s in sitting at the counter unnoticed. And we know he’s the one who scarred Master’s face. I found the peanut abacus he made interesting but I could not figure out the eggshell deal and the automatic toy that smashed them. His chance at reuniting with his love didn’t work out unless something happens in Tokyo Stories I’m not remembering which is why I’ll watch those again. Thanks for chatting, appreciate it.
@@DoctorDoggmatic Interesting. Came here after hearing Rhiannon Giddens sing Omoide. It is February 2022. Thank you for such a captivating CZcams visit. Don't do Netflix so I guess I am in the right place.
As soon as I saw him, and I thought this must be a cross over with "Shinobi" maybe he reincarnated in present time or the time and space that he controls.
He is wearing a traditional daily male kimono. Women still wear them. Not very many men. They are made of very thick heavy silk and are very warm. I own several. Besides being drop dead gorgeous it is one of the many reasons his character Katagiri stands out. ❤
I read somewhere an interpretation that Katagiri was the Master's son. If this was the case, it would provide tremendous closure as to his enigmatic character. Any thoughts?
Kimono. If it is a jacket length kimono, it is called a haori. But Katagiri wears a full length one and traditional footwear as does The Master. It is very warm heavy silk and he looks very handsome in it.
I would like to add a little information from Japan. What Katagiri san wears outdoors is a tombi coat. Judging from the close-up image, the material looks like wool. Thank you for your interest in his retro kimono appearance. I also love his costumes and the way he carries himself as an actor.
No, he basically apologises to the Master for causing the scar but we don't know why that happened. The only thing we know of him is he used to own a club and was in trouble with the police.
Alright, calm down. Not sure you have ever seen it to say this because this is all his appearances over two different series and sometimes you barely notice him. He's not meant to be saying anything profound, characters look at him afterwards in confusion, but he is calm, neutral, considered and quiet all the time, so it's supposed to be a bit of a joke when he suddenly says something and it's usual is gibberish but he seems to think it's cool, that's what is amusing and alluring about him.
The piano piece is “Drifter” by Takeshi Senior.
Thanks! I really liked this. Midnight Diner is such a special show.
Stunning, my family give four tumbs for this movie. Thank you netflix for playing this series movie. The idea is amazing, simple life but stunning.
El poeta de la Cantina de Medianoche. Gran personaje.
He's intentionally unintentionally hilarious.
Love this tribute to the mysterious and enigmatic Katagiri (Joe Odagiri)

Completely struck by the beauty. His changing expressions as he wordlessly encounters the gyoza chef's wife in the alley...
To say so much without words is the best acting.
I love this show, especially this interesting character on it.

Odagiri Joe is straight up an anime characters. He's so fookin' cool.
Omg, I love this guy! He is so handsome in his kimono❤
Cant believed he is the same guy in "shinobi heart under the blade" movie. What a man...
What an actor.

He plays two roles in Midnight Diner, the drifter and police officer

Odagiri Joe is a great actor
Serie maravilhosa
always thought of him as a ghost, an existential ghost.
He’s sooo handsome
Love it
I love this guys character. Now I know where master got his scar from. It was from that guy I guess.
This is awesome.
The tyltyl and mytl line is some great writing
this is the best EP.
Brilliant !
Thank-you dearly*
Great tribute! I loved his character arc I believe his name is "Katagiri" not river guy, not complaining just saying :D
his name is odagiri joe
The same man who played Godai Yusuke from Kamen Rider Kuuga.
What’s the title of that classical piano music that was played on the last episode of Season 2 or Episode 21?
😢😢
kuuga afterlife form
Thanks
Joe!!
Katagiri seemed so mysterious. Why did he wear those robes that were so different from the other characters? Was he supposed to be a monk or priest?

Maybe you should read the manga
Sad to see him go in season 2.
He does come in recent eisodes. Xx spoiler alert.
Poor guy
any one has the score of the original piano in ep. 20?
Anyone know the name of that great piano piece in the video?
Takeshi Senoo, "Drifter", which is originally a Kirinji song.

Still my favorite kamen rider
Where can I watch every season of midnight diner? There are movies too?
I watched all them at Netflix but I have yet to watch the movie.
netflix has the first three seasons and then another 2 seasons in tokyo series. Rakuten Viki app has the movies for 99 cents rental.
So mysterious. We know he gave the Master his scar. It would be interesting if he was The Master's son. Whatever happened to the character?
What’s the thing he wears called?

All of these are in Season 2, right? Or did he also appear in Season 1?
I think he is also the policeman.

Is this the sequel to Kuuga?
Do they say who this guy is in the show and what he had to do with the Master's scar?

??
is that Master's son? he is so interesting
I don't think so but that would be a cool twist to the story. I really hope the show goes into Master's life a bit at some point.
I was thinking also... But probably not as he gave payment for what he consumed in season 1. If he was his son, Mastah wouldnt accept it.

Gibberish, not profound... I think some folks are easily impressed. I hope the whole series isn't like this.
