  • Croatian tourism wouldn't be what it is today without the traditions found in Dalmatia. We meet Mate, a retired captain from the seaside village of Krilo Jesenice.
Modern shipbuilding began to boom in Croatia, and particularly Krilo, in 1992, with the repurposing of small wooden ships that were originally manufactured to transport cargo and sand, into simple passenger-carrying vessels. Since then this innovative industry has boomed over the past decade and today Krilo is a busy shipyard that produces impressive ships, whilst holding onto its roots and traditions!
Local Stories is a series dedicated to providing an insight into the quirky aspects of Croatian people, culture and traditions!
