  • Juan & Terence discuss Quantum Gravity and what it means to quantize a theory of gravity. Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity are two of the most robust theories of physics but they are incompatible currently. It is presumed that a complete theory of everything will be a theory of quantum gravity.

As a final year undergrad physics student, about to enter grad school to try and work on QFT and quantum gravity this was definitely a pretty amazing description of the problem at hand. Amazing work guys, love from India.

I've been watching the lectures by Leonard Susskind on string theory. In string theory, the graviton is described as having spin 2 because of a sort of translation invariance along a loop string. The invariance requires a constraint on the oscillation modes such that energy moves symmetrically clockwise and counterclockwise. The excitations (creation and annihilation operators) have a linear relation to a unit of spin (think circular polarization, a + ib). So in the end, the lowest allowed excitation corresponds to 2 units of spin, one clockwise and another counterclockwise along the loop.

Quantum gravity with dark energy comes out like this; all matter in the Universe around itself excite quantum space for expansion (pulsing by quantum oscillations of waves). But at the same time, the bodies, opposite each other, create wave interference with the expansion of the quantum space, for this reason, the pressure of the quantum space between the bodies will decrease, as a result of which the quantum gravitational attraction of the bodies arises ....

guys why not get a headset with a mic? 1 hour sitting there holding the mics up?

Makes us feel like standup comedians 😄😄 jk we just find that it works and stands would overcomplicate our setup with such a small table

11:30 "we start with Archimedes or some shit" - guys, the laid back style is interesting, but more than 10 minutes in, you still haven't gotten into the topic of the video. I suggest more preparation and a higher density of information please.

      They're chill. We're chill. :)
One thing they could do that's always useful though, is putting timestamp links with short descriptive titles (if that isn't already there, I haven't checked).
So if there's somebody who wants to skip the initial chit chat can just jump to the point.

String Theory has so much amazing Math! The model isn’t quite there, imo.

That was great fun, I enjoyed your ideas, i love your style, but you obviously did not make your homework on some details (Maxwell's equations on gravity without mentioning Kaluza-Klein? Photon as spin-0-particle, ok, you got that right; Loop Quantum again with little background knowledge, no Abhay Ashtekar, and Rovelli did recently some work on it, watch Brian Keating's discussion with him and David Gross; gluons with mass? emergent gravity without Verlinde; is not the collider to detect quantum gravity even as big as our galaxy?).
On the other hand, its easy to critisize, and in the end you are more brilliant than me, so I shut up at this point 😇

All valid points. This podcast was a bit premature tbh. Too ambitious of a topic, but at least we met the goal of hopefully getting people a rudimentary understanding of the state of quantum gravity. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! 😎😎
