      Perhaps there will be a ticketed public event in a smaller venue where he will have random basses from his collection up there. Up on some stage where he’ll be interviewed in front of a live audience, and will demonstrate his tone and sound as well as explain fundamentals of his bass guitars, etc.

      Geddy is an interesting... Creature. As he would describe himself.

    Geddy Lee, along with John Entwistle, is the reason bass is my favourite instrument to play, they really inspire me.

  • @czarman01

    Geddy and the the boys are true class acts and pure professionals. The best band EVER. I love his casual attitude. I want to hang out with Geddy.

  • @rosewoodfretboard
    @rosewoodfretboard Před 10 lety +52

    I'd pay just to watch Geddy Lee do a pre-concert soundcheck. Then I could die happy. :)
    Never seen Rush in concert. One of the great disappointments of life.

    • @mousearebec
      @mousearebec Před 9 lety

      Oxnard Montalvo Starts in May 2015......... supposed to be their last large tour...... we'll see. But you need to be motivated and go...... I've seen every concert since Presto....... just wish I had started earlier.

    • @rosewoodfretboard
      @rosewoodfretboard Před 9 lety +2

      You're right about that -- motivation is part of the equation. Proximity and price will also be key. Must have been really cool to see them evolve in live venues over the latter half of their career. I can't imagine what it must have been like to see them in the 1970s as they began to etch their places in rock history with trailblazing LPs like "Fly By Night" and "2112." And what was still to come. Incredible.

    • @kevinsmith-ee7ne
      @kevinsmith-ee7ne Před 6 lety

      I was lucky enough to see RUSH and Max Webster jamming pre show on the hemispheres tour in Birmingham in the uk
      That was some experience especially when you're only 16. I waited backdoor after the show and met Geddy and Neil who did the interviews that night. Alex had already gone unfortunately

  • @RCAvhstape
    @RCAvhstape Před 13 lety +5

    "This is my instrument, this is the one I want to play!" Just another reason why Geddy is my favorite bassist. And what he said is true for so many of us who play bass because we heard Geddy play it on the radio.

  • @GothJedi
    @GothJedi Před 7 lety +25

    You know he really does attack the bass... I mean, look at songs like YYZ or The Analog Kid and you can tell he's not playing around. It just seems like every time Alex goes off into a solo Geddy is right there with him , fingers flying

  • @connorsimpson4542
    @connorsimpson4542 Před 5 lety +7

    I feel like every modern bass virtuoso has a love affair with flamenco guitar technique. It lends itself really well to bass for some reason.

  • @diamon999
    @diamon999 Před 11 lety +9

    Love the fact that he's so enthusiastic about "coming back to the bass" for new renditions of older songs. I've been fortunate to watch many Rush shows and it's great to hear the musicality of Geddy's bass return. To badly quote "leave the block triads to my feet ... and funk on my guy" :)
    I have a new found respect for Geddy after picking up a bass guitar myself recently and now see the possibilities that he inspires. Cheers dude

  • @Joetime90
    @Joetime90 Před 3 lety +1

    As I saw in a rehearsal video "that's it, that's what I does". That's basically Geddy. Humble, personable, humorous, and leaves a bit of mystery.

  • @Ed9870
    @Ed9870 Před 9 lety +8

    Very interesting to hear Geddy's evolution away from the keyboards just as it was to watch his immersion into them in the first place. Always with an eye towards improvement and development as a player and a performer. THE consummate professional in my eyes.

  • @ThatGuyYouArent2
    @ThatGuyYouArent2 Před 11 lety +4

    • @MattSmith-iq1ld
      @MattSmith-iq1ld Před 7 lety +4

      G/P is my favorite Rush album of all time, and It actually has more bass and guitar on it that the previous record "Signals." I think it was the followup records....."Power Windows and "Hold Your Fire".....where he was playing mainly keyboards. It's important to remember that while those albums weren't not liked by all Rush albums, they still sold way more than "Caress Of Steel" and "Fly By Night." They are million plus sellers. They weren't failures. Geddy still feels "Power Windows" is one of the 3 best records they ever made.

  • @mousearebec
    @mousearebec Před 9 lety +10

    He kind of reminds me of myself: kind of obsessed with bass, interested in other things as well (e.g. keyboards) but perhaps a little paranoid of straying too far from bass. I feel a little less crazy now!

    Very funny to see him use these "almost classical guitar techniques" as he calls it. I switched from fingerstyle/classical guitar to bass and spent the last few years to unlearn these techniques and get the proper ones for bass down. Time to reintegrate that stuff again 😂

    That was really good mainly for the clips of Geddy just playing about on his bass. As there are not many clips of him just playing by himself. The Technical stuff was less Interesting . But to watch the Different ways he has adapted new sounds to is playing was Nice

    I just don't know how he can remember every single line he had played on every single song. I mean you need to be extremely focused to do that or be a freaking genius like Geddy. It just escapes me how he can do that plus the arranging, the composing, the singing, the keyboard...pedals and so on. How he does it is a mistery not to be solved in this century, I believed.

I really love and respect how diverse the band's musical interests are (ie - old interviews with them talking about Talking Heads, The Police, Blondie, etc etc).
