To know Rush and the men in the band (RIP Neil) is to know individuals who transcend not only musical greatness but also what it means to be brilliant, dynamic, amicable, and just flat-out interesting and kind people.
Geddy is possibly the realest, smartest, funniest, most articulate former rocker in the world. I've never seen an interview with him that wasn't thoroughly engrossing. He's special.
@@steverogers2603 well yeah but he's Robert Plant! The guy with the lemon and all that lol. These days he can and does laugh at himself and he looks back at the image he had with Led Zeppelin with a great sense of humor , even though he is rightfully proud of what they did.
As a man from flint mi. Turning 60 on wednesday I can never overstate my love for this man and rush. I became music obsessed and remain to this day. 2112 is my ultimate. Every note is perfect. Geddy rules.
He donated part of his collection, the super rare negro league balls to the negro leagues baseball museum. Just adore the dude. Can't wait to read his book.
The GOAT and a truly nice guy. I had the privilege of meeting him and the band in Miami back in the early 80s because a friend's father worked with the band as a producer and got us in to meet them. Neil, Alex and Geddy were absolutely gracious to a group of starstruck teen fanboys.
@@crobilly19 I just wish I'd met them when I was a little older and more confident. I was only 15, but I still wish I'd been 25. Excellent interview, DP. I have been one of "those" Rush fans since I was 13 years old (55 now). Every interview like this reinforces what we already know: Geddy Lee is not only a phenomenal musician, he is a phenomenal, regular dude. Great job, DP!!
My eighth grade English class in 1977 was studying science fiction and the teacher asked us to bring in an example so someone brought in an album by a group I had never heard of called Rush and our teacher played this album called 2112. I’ve been hooked ever since.
55 discovered RUSH when I was 12 having bought a box of 8 tracks at a garage sale among the tapes was 2112, Led Zep II, Passion Play Jethro Tull, Michael Jackson and Pat Benatar :)
I’m a former drummer so RUSH is my favorite band of all time. There’s not a more talented musician on this earth than Geddy Lee. Thanks SO much for that interview!!

Not a Rush listener as not my genre but always liked the members of the band and took ( Canadian) pride in their success. But as a Canadian baseball fan I loved Geddy's dedication to the Jays.
Thank you for this wonderful interview!!!!!! I always have a big smile on when I listen to Geddy speak!! I'm so proud to be a fellow Canadian/Ontarioan!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to reading his book!! Cant wait to hear him play again someday!!!

I love Geddy. Thank God for the internet. I’ve been given really great access to one of three of my all time favorite music heroes since 1978😂 He and Lerxt are hilarious wits! I wish they would do a movie of just doing stuff. I don’t care what.
As a long time fan of Rush over 45 years I really love and admire Geddy. I knew back in the 80s he was a huge baseball fan often asked to sing the National Anthem at baseball games back then. He did an interview with Dan Rather awhile back where he talked and gave Rather the grand tour of his collection. Quite impressive indeed. Now he's giving back to the game that gave him so much joy by parting with some of his collectibles. That can't be easy, because I know parting with some of my stuff would be terribly hard, but there's a time where you need to move on when it feels right. Very happy to hear he wants to write songs again. Looking forward to some new fresh music from this man. Thanks Geddy for being the great person you always have been to your fans.
From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
I think so, he was a very humble and kind man. Kinda shy and reserved in a good way. Just a quiet fella I guess. I think he would have said for the boys to continue on, don’t let me drag you guys down.
This is such a huge time in Geddy's life: finishing his memoirs and selling his baseball memorabilia at auction. THEN he can get back to making music. It's so nice to hear that.
As a baseball fan and huge Rush fan, enjoyed every moment of this interview thx. Hope to see Geddy and Alex on a tour someday, that would be a dream come true. Lets get it done with Danny Carey.
I’m glad Geddy mentioned UFO as one of his touring memories. Dan probably doesn’t know who they were, nor most people, but Rush has some very funny stories about touring with UFO, who was also a great band.
Geddy, I love you man! I saw on a documentary that Geddy also collects wine. A documentary on Kiss talks about Rush being their opening act. Did not know about UFO and the Irish band Thin Lizzy connection. If Geddy never picked up the bass and was a classmate of Alex, I think he would have gone into journalism. Just so articulate. Great interview DP!

Geddy was the first bass player I heard who played 'outside the box' at the time I was a teenager and getting into music, that's what spurred me on to learn the instrument. I learned all of Moving Pictures and most of his previous/later works as well to learn the bass and I've never looked back, continuing to play live and record to this day. So Geddy, thank you, for teaching me how to play this beautiful instrument, for being so humble in your talents, and for being an incredible human & gentleman. I look forward to reading "My Effin Life" very soon. Take care, and thank you.
I remember a radio interview with Rush ("The Source," Bill "The B Man" Bonascevicz) when GUP was released. Early June. Geddy said, "I think Detroit is going to win the World Series, this year. That's a pretty bold statement, I know." Sure enough, they did win. As an aside, I'm noticing all the police patches on Dan's desk. My late father was a big-time collector of police patches in the late 80's to early 00s. Over a thousand of them. After he passed, my mother sold them, but she kept his favorite, which is from Cairo, NY. As the story goes, it's very rare, so my Dad took a ride up from Long Island to try to buy one. He was willing to go as high as $500. Early 90s, I think. The officer at the tiny precinct said, "The only way you're gonna get one of these patches is if you dig up the last cop who was buried." Dad took out the $500 cash, and the cop gave him his. Mom's gone, so now I own it.
