  • I was going to start this channel with coverage on the Apple Vision Pro. But after seeing people share their experience I grew suspicious. So i had to see for myself...
$3500 for a HMD or VR headset is a lot to ask. It's important that you consider the true value it adds before choosing the Vision Pro as your next tech purchase.
To those who are familiar with the world of Augmented Reality /Virtual Reality /Mixed Reality you may not be impressed. Let me explain.

The biggest piece missing from the Apple Vision Pro software is applications like VR Chat, Horizon Worlds, and various multiplayer games where you can interact with other people around the world whom you do not know, but have general fun communicating with a common goal of learning about the technology, software/game, tricks and tips about the software/hardware, and helping each other (new users or avid users). I like the community aspect of the Meta Quest. I have interacted with more good than bad.

One of the biggest missing features I really want on the MQ3 is a good source to stream 3D movies I pick. I've been having issues getting a bluray drive that will properly read 3D movies to rip them, and finding a movie you want to watch on big screen means you're probably coming into the movie in the middle of it at possibly lower bitrates than desired.

Great video mate! Avid MQ3 user here too.
I love my MQ3 but the controllers are a must. The hand tracking is a bit clunky and not always accurate. The pass through is good but I wish I could see my laptop and pc monitor more clearly when wearing the MQ3. When the MQ4 has improved those 2 it’ll be unstoppable!
Netflix needs to be updated so we can watch 1080p and 4k resolution as the MQ3 is great for watching movies & series I agree but at less than 500p on the current Netflix app 😬🍿 I still use it as it’s good enough.
The 1 feature I wish we had on MQ3 that the AVP has is have multiple apps open at the same time placed wherever I like rather than 3 spaces.
Other than that the MQ3 is so good. Infact if I owned an AVP and MQ3 I’d be wishing the AVP had loads of the MQ3 features and that doesn’t even include the games. Because of the comfort of the MQ3 with third party headstraps and facial accessories I often forget I’ve been on it for hours 😅
Btw to anyone who has an iPhone, MacBook and iCloud getting the MQ3 is still a great choice because I have all Apple stuff and it works well with the MQ3 I use virtual desktop so I can sit anywhere in the house to use my laptop with up to 3 screens. Shoot spatial video on my iPhone 15 pro max. The list goes on 😂

    • @TheConstruct_VR
      @TheConstruct_VR  Před 2 měsíci

Yeah man. I want to like the AVP… I’m hearing reviewers say the hand and/or eye tracking isn’t perfect over there either so controllers just remove all that guess work.
I look forward to the UI updated the MQ3 can run multiple apps if the UI allowed. I agree it will probably be smoother on the next headset.
My pass through seems to be getting better after every update. I realize that’s subjective but one tip is to go to accessibility settings an mess with the contrast until the noise looks less gray. Also I hear v64 is going to improve it. Now, if we could just get rid of the warping LoL
Thanks for watching and spending some time in the comments!

5:40 I think it’s dumb to have screens everywhere as well, they mainly just show that to show that it can be done. But how I used it was when I was watching a show I would have my main screen up and then if I need to check a text, music or anything else I would pull up a screen and put it to the side or if I wanted to put the time widget next to the screen, I can put it to the side and that’s how I used it. I think this is a pretty good analysis. It really just depends on what people are going for, for most quest is easily the better choice like I mentioned in my video. I'm working on a vision video now and for the most part is going to appeal more to apple users or people who just want a large screen in front of them that's a tad better than quest's.

This is fascinating. I’ll finish the video but wanted to comment on how people weigh the pro’s and con’s differently.
3:45 the lack of a need for controllers is great, imo. I don’t want to have to keep how it’s the headset AND those, if I am not trying to use a game which requires them.
I use a controller when I need one. That’s a superior experience, imo.
The polish is costly. No lie. But having experienced the AVP, I suspect that I would either use it or use nothing.
The drop in quality and experience, based on my limited headset use prior to the AVP along with the many videos out there, showing Quest interfaces.
    Yeesh.
The raggedy hand tracking visual effects… 🤦🏾‍♂️
I want to record and watch 3D content. Apple’s device has that.
    Apple’s ecosystem…
Apple’s extra, free 3D content is awesome.
    Immersive environments for movie watching…
Easy access to major motion pictures via Apple and Disney…in 3D.
Again, I’ll finish the video (although I doubt anyone will finish this rant; and I don’t blame them 😅 ) … Imma let you finish… but the things Apple brings to the table are awesome.
It’s the best tv I’ve ever had. Maybe others with 8K HDR QLED, laser TV’s aren’t impressed but I noted the absolutely FLAWLESS blacks in a 3D movie I watched last night.
    Anyway, back to the show..:

Yep, similar background, been into VR since I got the OG Vive on launch day, bought many headsets since then, including the MQ3. Went and took the test run in the store and wasn't all that impressed. HOWEVER, I zigged where you zagged. I bought the AVP anyway, because I felt this was a sea change moment in the industry, and I wanted a front row seat to what was coming. Over the course of about a week and a half, I absolutely fell in love with the AVP, and I have put it on every day since the day I got it. So I think when one is coming from a VR background it's easy to see the AVP through your preconceptions, and to not really appreciate it, because you're trying to fit it into a box you think it should belong in. Honestly, I'd be much more interested in your thoughts after you've owned it for a period of time, instead of just what you think after half an hour seeing it, because if I had just gone home and made a video right after the demo, I probably would have told the world it wasn't all that special myself.

What you described above was exactly what happened with the iPhone. It was weird, a bit too expensive and no one saw the point. Now look at all of us. Curious to do you feel like you’re getting $3500 of value or that just the cost of early adoption / front row seat? I realize I just asked for an opinion but I’m genuinely curious of how you feel about the investment

    • @bujin5455
      @bujin5455 Před 3 měsíci +1

@struct_VR That's a really hard question to answer, because value is very subjective, just like cost is. However, I will say AVP really caught me off guard when I took it off, after being in it a while, and I got that feeling like I was "returning home," like the feeling you get when you're coming back from a trip. VR has never created that feeling in me. I've felt the "sense of presence" but it's always been couched in a sort of suspended disbelief, much like you have when you're reading, or watching a movie. Watching a movie in Avengers HQ and looking down and seeing your own hands, there in a space they shouldn't exist, evokes this primal feeling like you're really at Avengers HQ. Something about seeing your real hands, and not an avatar, in the virtual plane, a crystal clear virtual plane, is really something. Not to mention the absolutely witchcraft level audio Apple has going on. Top that all off, when you're in the AVP, just doing your thing, reading emails, books, comics, responding to texts, looking at Discord, checking your bank account, whatever you'd normally be doing on a computer, you have these super powers that are just low key available all the time. You're not playing a game to have them, they're just part of being in the AVP. This doesn't immediately hit you while you're in the Apple Store, but the way the AVP blurs the line between your real space and this world you have absolute control of, leaves you trying to continue to control things like you have ESP even after you take off the headset. I've NEVER found myself trying to use VR skills in the real world before. I think what Apple has delivered is your own intimate private world where you have god like powers, and the computer is an extension of your mind. Like it took a few days for me to key into this, but once I did, I was pretty hooked, and my return window closed last Tuesday, but I still have it. So yeah, I guess I think it's worth it.

I appreciate and enjoy my Quest 3, but I also recognize all the clutter in its software stack. The link feature is still Oculus. The Meta stuff is basically a customized Google Andriod. It does not feel like a premium fully seamless and integrated experience. Again, for what it is and its price it is awesome. But when I look into the future, I do not think Meta will be able to catch up with apple. It's not comparing the OLED screen vs. the LCD screen. Of course the Apple Vision Pro has a much better display and clarity. It's FOV is somewhat lackluster still and all that. But what I am talking about is the "long run." Apple will bring more affordable products to the consumer. Maybe not featuring an OLED but only an LCD screen. But in the long run, Apple's capability to craft everything itself - from the hardware to the software, is an advantage over Meta that Meta will not be able to compensate. Meta had several years after it aquired Occulus and this is how far they got? I am not talking about the nice pancake lenses .. I am talking about the overall hard/software stack and it's integraton. Meta wasted time on trying out their "social stuff" instead of creating a solid foundation. With the first product Apple basically at least tied Meta's headstart of being several years in the market already. And I assume it won't take long that people will buy a more affordable Apple Vision product over any Meta Quest product just because of the overall experience will be so much more polished.
Somehow it's also a bit "unfair." Meta is not a company one could compare with Apple. Meta is bying some Snapdragon chips and integrating on Google Andriod while Apple is designing its own chips and is 100% owning its phone and base technology. Meta is just not compareable at all in this regard. Meta is not capable to craft hardware and software so optimized specifically for it like Apple can do. And time will show this difference very very clearly I suppose. Maybe I am wrong and Meta will get its stuff together. But after so many years being in the market already, I am not seeing this coming. Anyway .. it will be exciting to see what is happening in the future and Apple entering the market and Sony pushing for PCVR accessibility is just plain awesome for VR as a whole. Today, I am enjoying my Quest 3 and will not buy the Vision Pro. In a few years, I think the playing field will be different and probably a no-brainer when it comes to deciding if you go for the Apple product or not.

Apple knows how to build computers for a long time, including iPhones, iPads, watches etc. Meta is more a "webpages company" until it purchased Occulus.
Some folks already work on an app to connect Apple Vision Pro to SteamVR.
I think in the next few years we will see how this entire market prospers. Including a Quest 4 with super wide FOV and OLED :-)
And I think it is awesome SONY says it will make it possible to use PSVR2 with PC.
      Things are looking good altogether.
But just like you, as a current Quest 3 owner I won't spend 3.500 on Vision Pro and instead, wait until this new Apple product line and the available software for it has developed a litte further. I have yet to see apple release a cheaper version of anything. if anything their products get more expensive, ipads, MacBooks , iphones all have raised in price except Thier SE models but who really buys those?

11:24 comparing a bit of light on the floor to an Apple immersive environment in which you’re in a full movie theater with lights and carpeting and walls, etc or even on a mountain top or in the woods by a lake, with reflections of the actual movie on the rippling water, is close to laughable.
It just goes to show that clearly, you find what the Quest offers to be good enough. And that’s fine and it’s fair. Honestly, I even think your overall approach is fair, despite my criticisms, but let’s not say it’s the same thing. A quantum leap has occurred from what I’m seeing in this video and what I experience on the AVP.
It sounds like your demo experience could’ve been better - but mostly it sounds like you’ve imprinted on your previous experience and I’ve imprinted on this “polished” version with so many extras and integration with my phone.
All my photos from the past 15 years or so are automatically available on the AVP.
No one mentions that. Maybe family photos aren’t as important to them. But that integration is awesome
I called my mom and used a feature to easily show her what I could see through the AVP, in real time - including apps, AR/MR objects, and even family videos.
She didn’t have to do anything but look at her phone.

Hey thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
I’m very careful not to say the AVP is “the same” as the quest 3. And I never say that the Q3 is better. I’ve said multiple times that the AVP is better actually. It sounds like you value the things in the AVP to justify its cost and other draw backs. That’s ok too. I think people know the a $500 device isn’t exactly the same at the $3500 one.
The quest is a “good enough” experience, and it’s priced to be only that. I mentioned I’m not just hating on the AVP in the next video. But simply pointing out that the quantum leap you mention isn’t worth an extra $3k to many. So lets’s enjoy these similar although sub par experiences that already exist. People buy Lamborghinis .. all I’m doing in these vids is saying “if you just need a car … Hondas are cool too, you could save some money”
.The comments have shown it’s a bit triggering to those who have purchased the AVP but that’s not my intention.
I actually want an AVP but not at this cost and with these drawbacks/differences to what I’ve experienced in other products.
Again thanks for spending the time. Cheers.

@@TheConstruct_VR I can certainly understand finding the extras possibly not worth the extra cost but the hardware breakdown of some source that I’m willing to reference but too lazy to specifically identify, claims it’s got $1500 worth of hardware.
As you mention, it’s doing something.
And I value those many of those things.
I’ll also admit that your video title evaluates it as a or not a “consumer first” device.
That qualifier has some value but people pay thousands for a fancy tv.
This is among the fanciest and most portable TV’s with the bells and missing from the bargain brands that help justify paying much more than this hardware costs.
      Just a thought.

6:06 having windows where I want them and having them separate and large is a much better experience.
The Quest is limiting your flexibility in a way Apple does not. That has value.
You mentioned being stationary. I guess that’s sometimes the case for me but I’m often on the go, cooking, washing clothes, cleaning up, wrangling kids, etc from room to room.
I like being able to use what I want where I want.

I think the tech is too big for that use case right now now. Personally I don’t want to looks at 3 difference screens while I work around the house. Or wear heavy googles (talking about. ANY headset) while I’m focused on some other work. I think the idea is near but until the tech shrinks comfort will rule this out for most.

with the bobo m3 strap and the silicon interface on my quest 3 it’s actually VERY comfortable. I still felt a bit awkward/ unfortunate doing dishes with it on and having a movie over my kitchen counter.
With that said I’m excited for this tech to get smaller. I hope to cover some of the smaller hmds like the XReal or big screen beyond . They don’t have pass through (I don’t think) but I like the strides in making things smaller they’re doing over there

Great video. But I'm not sure necessarily agreeing with the opinions. I've owned or used every consumer headset. And the vision pro is way far ahead of everyone else. I do agree with your title. This interation is not for the masses, but it's not intended to be. But the vision line is, and will be. The tech is definitely there... And it's just a matter of time, that the software, and content catches up. We're talking months away. And when the feature COPRESENCE / SHAREPLAY rears its head... It's game over! However, Metas codec avatars will absolutely keep them a major player.

      @TheConstruct_VR  Před 3 měsíci +1

Yeah I hear you I think we’re saying the same thing though “it’s not for the masses” it’s price alone seals that. I think it will get there. When the price lowers and the value of use cases rise this will be the best product for its intended audience. We’re just not there yet. And yes Shared experiences + Apple’s ecosystem will take over the game. Thanks for watching!

I bought the first iPhone in 2007/2008, but there were no Android phones at that time. so who were those people telling you about all the things that Android phones could do? Maybe you didn't buy the first iPhone then?

    • @TheConstruct_VR
      @TheConstruct_VR  Před 3 měsíci +1

🤦🏽‍♂️ I meant as the androids came out for cheaper people would I compare and share that it does the same for less. There I was with my shiny iPhones (I bought all of them every year until the 11) and android out paced them with features for years.
I hate that the internet is so full of lies that the one gets cross examined on the smallest details. I was there at 4am in line in 2007 buying the first phone. I have photos from that day but I don’t think that’s necessary for this point I was making. I’m an Apple fan, but I stopped blindly buying first gens years ago. I think we can all agree that being an early adopter is not for the weak of heart or wallet.

I did the demo after owning my AVP for a couple weeks & the demo doesn’t do it justice. I just finished your other video too. I use both headsets almost daily. Quest when I’m at work to play with my son, and the AVP when I’m working from home. The Quest is still amazing, but the AVP is in a different league & well worth the 7X imo

I have Quest 3 and Vision Pro. Quest 3 is for sale. After seeing Vision Pro, Quest 3 looks like a 720p Walmart LCD from 2000s vs a new OLED TV. I see screen door effect and warping every time I look now, can’t unsee it. And experience is very different between them, you’re very wrong and biased. It’s kinda ridiculous to compare a 3400 ppi micro oled display with a 1218ppi LCD. I can’t watch any video on Quest 3, because it’s the worst screen I have. If you’re watching Gladiator on Quest 3, you’re missing out. Watch it on your phone, your tablet, your laptop they’re all better. But vision pro is better than all of them. It’s a disservice to your viewers to knowingly lie to them.

I mentioned the resolution was better on the AVP in the video. Wouldn’t say I’m biased just not sold by pure specs. The experience didn’t feel different enough to me. It’s like A Ferrari is objectively better than a Ford Taurus but you’d get to the grocery store the same way ya know? So the consumer’s choice matters more than the raw specs. Thanks for watching!
