    Here's an interesting bit I noticed about the execution scene. The priestess says "blessings of the eight divines" and the stormcloak responds, "for the love of Talos, shut up and lets get this over with." By praying to the eight divines instead of the nine divines, she insulted Talos and pissed off the stormcloak.

    I always thought that the Stormcloak executed at the start, only rushed to his death because the priest is giving them their last rites in terms of the 'eight divines' rather than the nine, which would be a rather large insult considering most of the Stormcloaks only joined up to fight for the right to worship the nine divines.

    The two Dunmer sisters seem to be going blind if you really look at their eyes, so I don't think there's anything special about them. But Karliah is different.

    • @viknightingale552
      @viknightingale552 Před 6 lety +66

      I personally think it was to make Karliah's character seem really mystical as her eye colour matches the whole Nightingale theme, and she is the one to introduce the Nightingale to Brynjolf and the player in game. Who really knows what Bethesda is thinking. Maybe it was a coding error and they were too lazy to do anything about it.

    • @Neronix17
      @Neronix17 Před 6 lety +17

      In Karliah's case I'd say it's down to being a Nightingale, although that falls apart when the player and other characters who are also Nightingales don't share the eye colour when they join. It could be something that is supposed to happen over time, it could be something earned as a badge of honour with Nocturnal. We'll probably never know.

    On Harkon: I belive that the dragon boss music is an easter egg from Bethesda. Harkon is a Vampire lord who lives in a large spooky castle. Just like the lord of vampires, Dracula.
    The easter egg might be tying the similareties between the two since "Dracul" means "Dragon" and "Dracula" means "Son of the Dragon". In other words: "Dragonborn".

      also, it's really not all that odd for game developers to add those types of Easter eggs. Dracula is derived from the Latin "draco" meaning dragon. As for "son of a dragon," well I'm less clear on that part. Count dracula is a vampire; harkon is a vampire. It's not that much of a stretch, really. I'm not convinced this assertion is correct, but there's no need or cause to call this person schizophrenic.

      Prince Vlad, who is the original Dracula, was the son of a man nicknamed "Dracul". He was given that name from something called "The order of the dragon".
      Because of this, his son was "Dracula", which means "son of dracul" in romanian.
      "Dracul" being romanian for "devil", was derived from the latin Word for "dragon", "Draco".
      While we say devil today, it is pretty likely that the order of the dragon gave him that name with a dragon in mind.

    Uh... No. Harkon can't be a Dragonborn. According to dialogue about Durnehviir : "Dragon Soul is as resiliant as it's bearer Scaly Hide". And Greybeards : "Dragonborn is a mortal born with a soul of a Dragon"
    Durnehviir was connected to the Soul Cairn, not Ideal Masters. He could leave that place, but he would fade away. In conclusion, Harkon couldn't have been claimed by Molag Baal if he was a Dragonborn, as even DAEDRAS CAN'T CLAIM A SOUL OF A DRAGON! And I think, that the Dragon Battle theme was placed there to emphasise his bossfight.
    He was literally vampire demigod.

      I really would have liked if Bethesda had created a different musical score for Harkon's battle. Something darker and more foreboding for someone who was seeking to destroy the sun.
      I read that Dragonborn souls are so powerful, that they can choose their afterlife if they die, such as living among the werebeasts of Hircine's Hunting Grounds. I think there is some dialogue in the game to suggest the Dragonborn being able to choose his or her afterlife "When next we meet, I shall be the first to welcome you to Shor's Hall" or something along those lines, spoken by Tsun after the defeat of Alduin. I think, that if Harkon was Dragonborn, he didn't want his soul to be absorbed and himself, forgotten. I'm not saying that being tortured in Coldharbour is better than being used to power a Shout, but I do feel Harkon didn't want to give the Player Character the satisfaction of absorbing his soul.

      And Miraak? You know, the first Dragonborn, serving Hemeus Mora. I think that dragon souls can easily be claimed by any deadric prince, but it has to be given willingly. And given that the dragons are too prideful to give up their soul, it is safe to assume that it never happened. However, mortals are much more eager to give away their soul for some power. And we all know how power-hungry Harkon is. Same with Miraak, I think they willingly gave their souls to get the power they desired.

They're blind from old age, they have cataracts, etc. They probably have red eyes but lost their color as they aged and their eyes became diseased. That's my theory anyway.

    You see how stupid that sounds? Almost as stupid as Harkon being a Dragonborn.
    Almost every villain in Elder Scrolls games has an insatiable lust for power at the expense of those "above" them -- it's a common theme in TES lore. Vampires are just vampires, boss music is just boss music. The fight against Vythur's minions in the Forgotten Vale temple has the civil war themed music, so does that make frozen falmer a third faction? Of course not because that's a ridiculous connection no sensible person would ever make.

    Harkon, a Dragonborn? No. Just no. All the "evidence" supporting this theory is circumstantial at best. There is no hatred between Akatosh and Auriel - Akatosh even contains pieces of Auriel. Combat music is just combat music and he IS a boss in the DLC. As for obsession with power ... You know who else is also obsessed with power in TES universe, so much so that he is even called a Prince of Domination? Molag Bal (who, incidentally, also corrupted a few dragons into Titans because he liked their lust for power that much). And Harkon is a pureblood vampire, the kind of vampire most directly linked to Molag Bal. Why wouldn't he then, as a vampire, also lust for power?
    But there is a rather disturbing similarity in striving for domination between Molag Bal and dragons/Dragonborn, no? Go play VIGILANT mod if you're on PC. It draws some nice parallels between them. Because what screams power and domination louder than possibly defeating the very embodiment of the two?

      I could go on but it's really not lore friendly

    • @Silmarisi
      @Silmarisi Před 6 lety +3

      There are no Dwemer around - I don't know where you got that since there is not a single Dwemer in the mod.
      Molag Bal is not and never was that bard - Molag Bal is Molag Bal, nothing more, nothing less. Bard was simply a possessed puppet (Bal's first, if you want) - the endings are only ever his delusions, memories or desperate wishes. When he says his name is Molag Bal in one ending he means that completely metaphorically - he was forced into corruption and acting as Molag Bal's extension of will. Also, Molag Bal never dies in the mod - he's still there. You may have just kicked him in the face a little harder than anyone else, but he's still very much there.
      Don't take everything the mod throws at you at face value so much. Its story and lore is much deeper than it first seems.
      And before you start arguing with me about the story - I asked Vicn, the author of the mod, all of those questions and more when I was translating the mod, and these are only some of the answers he gave me.

    I think the reason Karliah has purple eyes is because she's a descendant of Queen Barenziah, granddaughter if I'm correct. Her mother was the result of a...ahem, one night stand.... between a man called the Nightingale. The daughter's name was Morgiah, who ruled Firsthold and married a man named Reman (I dont know if his race is specified) and had a daughter named Karliah. So in short, Karliah probably has violet eyes due to racial mingling or because Barenziah's specialty was magic. But this idea most likely has more to it and is flawed.
    I got this idea from surfing the internet and reading the lore and books The biography of Barenziah and the Firsthold Revolt and I think The real Barenziah.

  • @jaspr1999
    @jaspr1999 Před 5 lety +2

    Karliah is such an interesting character from a very interesting bloodline. Of all the backstory in the game about her, there is actually very little known about her. Aside from her bloodline, her relationship with Gallas and Nocturnal we have no idea where she came from prior to meeting Gallas or where she was while she was planning her revenge on Frey as that required a great deal of money that would be extremely hard for any thief, no matter how good, to come up with while still keeping off the Thieves Guild radar. My assumption while playing is that she acquired the means to take down Frey from Azura since she never strayed too far from the philosophy of the Mistress of Dusk and Dawn. While an acolyte of Nocturnal she was never did anything to go against either Daedra. Azura may very well have supported Karliah until she was back under the protection of Nocturnal. Hence, her blue eyes and less ashen skin.
    As for the two Dunmer cultivating Nirnroot, I think their white eyes were a direct result of working outside with magical ingredients, something that Sinderion really never did for any length of time. The best example I can use is the differences between a lab researcher of flora versus those that actually cultivate what the researcher found. The two fields are drasically different and will take different physical tolls on the body.

    1. Where does it say only one Dragonborn can be alive at any time in the world?
    2. As for the Sarethi sisters, well, my thought is less that 'they are special' and more, 'they're survivors'. Specifically they're survivors of some kind of disease or disaster. Avrusa mentions she had a shop in Vivec City before the Red Year, making her a couple hundred years old at least. It could be that they were diseases with Blight or some other illness that they couldn't fully cure at the time, or during those tragedies they suffered some issue that has stayed with them the whole time.
    Alternatively it could simply be a genetic thing, some kind of defect that runs in their family since they are sisters and both have it.

      Er.... The ability to absorb dragon souls is not hereditary. It's a gift (or to some, a curse) given by Akatosh for reasons that have yet to be disclosed to the public. If you're talking about Tiber Septim, then you can go both ways, he can't pass down his Dovahkiin ability to absorb the souls of slain dragons. He did, however pass down his blood to gain inheritance of the Imperial Throne. He is also known as an Imperial Dragonborn, one of those with St. Alessia's blood after she revolted against the Ayleids and Akatosh granted her with the Amulet of Kings to prevent the Daedra from stepping foot on Mundus again.

      The reason it does that is because there is no female mesh for the executioner's outfit, and dark brotherhood robes were assigned to them just in case someone did that. This is to prevent an error and potential crash when the game tries to load something that doesn't exist

    Maybe the reason the two dunmer sisters eyes are different is due to the nirnroot they're cultivating. Nirnroot glows in the dark, maybe chronic exposure to it caused their eyes to change that way.

    @TheEpicNate315 I remember reading in the Eslaf Erol series (Beggar, Thief, Warrior, King) that the hot-spring area is called the Aalto, and that it was home to so fine a winery that the Emperor "needs the permission of the Imperial Council to have a glass of it once a year." That ruined keep you mentioned is most likely that winery.

  • @bomouth142

    6:34 according to ESO, 1000 years ago those hot springs had human settlements and a vampire clan living there.

    I heard this from someone else. But the emperor actually put the contract out in himself using Amaund Mottierre as the front man instead. Which is a reason as to why he did not try to fight back or resist in any way shape or form during the quest Hail Sithis, and why he would want you to kill Amaund Motierre. Not because he put the contract, but because he is the only other man who knows the nature of the contract

    I think it'd be much more logical to try and argue that Ulfric Stormcloak was dragon born than Lord Harcon. Since it's stated that he can at least shout and that's why he's being executed in the beginning of the game, even though he never actually uses it in game.

  • @mr.trexster8121
    @mr.trexster8121 Před 5 lety +1

    maybe the Stormcloak saw Alduin flying. so he wanted his head to be chopped off rather than be eaten alive.

    Harkon being a vampire is a wild stretch. If he was a dragon born why doesn’t he use shouts. And the whole soul thing doesn’t make sense either.

  • @evervirescent
    @evervirescent Před 4 lety +1

    there can totally be more than one dragonborn at a time, remember the nord heroes that sent alduin forward in time? Do you think those *dragonslayers* learned all that from meditating with the greybeards?

  • @jackpadden8788
    @jackpadden8788 Před 6 lety +1

    I believe the dragon references for Lord Harkon are more related to the "real life" vampire Vlad the Impaler's father, Vlad Dracul and the "Order of the Dragon" from which he got his Romanian nickname (Dracul = the Dragon).

  • @TimothyDexter247
    @TimothyDexter247 Před 5 lety +1

    Actually, there can be more than one dragonborn at a time, Greybeards actually hinted that possibility in a dialogue option.
    "There have been many dragonborn before you, whether you're the only one of this era, we do not know"

  • @Lycan_Jedi
    @Lycan_Jedi Před 6 lety +1

    Honestly, they probably would've survived the chopping block, but there's no guarantee they'd survive Alduin himself. But, that's the theory that makes the most sense to me.

    Of course the volcanic tundra of Eastmarch has changed over the years. It's VOLCANIC. And also pretty close to Morrowind. Probably something to do with the eruption of Red Mountain.
