- OK Guys, its time to review game 4 between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.. The Bruins won this game by a score of 3-1 and once again.. Brad Marchand's DNA was all over this game.. The leafs stars are MIA... John Tavares, Auston Matthews, etc etc. They just can't seem to get the job done during the post season..

Don't ever compliment that rat Brad Marchand. I'm a die hard Habs fan and I have been since 1968. I don't like TML at all never seen the Laughs win anything and I'm in my 60s now. But I'm old enough to understand that character and decency matters in hockey and in life. I absolutely despise Brad Marchand mainly because he's a massive P O S. F*ck Marchand from the bottom of my heart and f*ck the horse he rode in on. And no, I don't care how good he is, I would never want that classless piece of garbage on my team. Hockey will be in a much better place after that creep is gone.
Love him Hate him, Marchand is a special player. He will probably never be inducted into the HOF because of his mischievous antics early in his career. Sick, injured he comes to play every night and never gives up until the buzzer rings. Probably one of the most underrated player in his generation.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are not a real NHL team. They are a 'Sports Entertainment' Corporation. The mission of the MLSE Corporation is to deliver regular season hockey entertainment. Playoff hockey is a bonus, certainly not an expectation.

I show up for work when I'm sick or have a migraine, and I only make 75k/year. Imagine missing playoff games for these reasons when making 10+ million/year. Imagine the amount of first round picks you could get for Matthews, Marner and Nylander.
All of them have no trade clauses. They'd have to force them to resign and because of that lose all negotiation power and terrible draft picks (which are never a guarantee).

You're giving excuses to a team that has probably the most elite offensive core in the league. They had a player who had 69 goal in a season who's pretty much a ghost during these playoffs. They get stomped every playoffs. It's to the point that even if they qualify, the league should prevent them from participating, because they're taking the spot of a more deserving team.

If Leafs lose this series in 5 games (or even in 7 games), Shanahan and Keefe need to go. Right now Shanahan's dream and goal to bring a Stanley Cup champion to Toronto is a 10 year nightmare. Meh theres ways to move guys even with NMC's. It has happened before, it just comes down to whether the Leafs management have the balls to do it or not. And if current management doesnt posses those balls, then Keith might have to bring in entirely new management that *can* and *will* move on from both Marner and probably Tavares and move into the future with Auston and Willy, because those are the guys you committed to past next season.

Ive seen a lot of spicy jokes about Samsonov on that JVR goal but the 8cm dilated chirp was by and far the best.
As a Leafs fan, there's no way this team was a Stanley Cup contender. All I wanted was a couple of weeks of good playoff hockey.
The issue with watching this team is the lack of drive they play with. Great teams figure out a way to win. On paper, the Leafs look like the more skilled team. Unfortunately for the Leafs, statistics don't determine heart.

Nor a Bruins fan either but for the past few years we see Toronto with the flare of scoring but in the playoffs most teams that go far have a decent goal tender and a very disciplined defensive core. Heck Montreal had less in scoring goals compared to most other teams but went to the finals with grit and a great defensive core and a very lucrative shut down line. They ran out of gas at the end since they were not even meant to be in the finals.

I think it's important to compare the Leafs with other teams.
Florida 2023: Down 3-1 in the First Round? Win next 3 games, Finals appearance.
Boston 2023: promising season, but an early exit and many saying they're done? Compete for the Presidents trophy the next year
Tampa 2024: Down 3-0, a situation they've never been in? Win 6-3 to stay alive
Maple Leafs 2017-2023: ONE series win in 6 tries.
Montgomery, Cooper, and Maurice have ALL found ways to get their team going. Keefe and Babcock almost outright REFUSE to do so. The players also seem uninterested.

The Leafs GM screwed up big time this year by not upgrading the Leaf Core 4. This Core 4 is the common denominator of years of playoff disappointments. 😀
Problem is Shanny won't allow the GM to "move on" from the core 4. Dubas found that out the hard way. Shanny has to go 1st. then allow the GM to do what needs done.

You just trade / fire everyone. They all lack the will to win in playoffs. They need to learn that. And obviously no one is breathing that energy into the team. It's not by changing 1 part that it'll change. because that 1 part will get crushed by the overwhelming majority of people that learned that just sitting down in the face of adversity is easier... and you get paid anyway.

Shanahan had a vision for the team that hasn't gone anywhere. Dubas fired himself to get outta town while the gittin was good. Keefe - they were afraid to fire him and pay the playoff loss price. Yup, fire them all and get a better vision for the team and see what players fit/don't fit that vision. Getting some high draft picks back would be helpful.

Leaf fans are not the problem. I'm 53 years old and have been a loyal leaf fan all my life so If we are critical it's for a good reason. Both management and players are only in it to make money. All other reasons are secondary including winning and it shows. First Mathews signs an insanely huge contract. 13 million and change. He didn't even consider taking the same money he was making which was insane already. Then Nylander does even better with a 3 million dollar increase. I got news for you. Marner will be no different. Marner is making 10 million and he only scored 26 goals this season. He is also the most easily shut down in playoffs. Samsonov gets paid 3.5 million but he is a 1 million dollar goalie at best. The top 2 lines are usually cancelled out by the other teams 2 lines. It takes a full team to win the cup.
Bad Coaching, bad Defense, bad goaltending and no offense. I wonder why we can win?

Trade Timothy Liljegren, and Jake McCabe...the first defender is useless in the NHL, the second one is tough but gets caught too often...let Bertuzzi, Domi, and Edmundson are free agents after this season...let them go...Bertuzzi is ineffective, Domi takes too many dumb penalties, Edmundson has too many gaffes on defense. Someone needs to spend the offseason with Reaves training him on hockey basics. He means well, he works hard (which is more than I can say for our top 4 expensive players) just his skill level needs to improve as that 1st period giveaway was horrible...a shame we cannot trade Nylander and Tavares...see if either will wave their no trade clause...in goal Samsonov is inconsistent, Woll since his injury has been inconsistent, and Jones is not good enough yet so we need a starting goalie...yeah start there and then lets see what we have next year...this team was done since the trade deadline when we picked up not enough to help us on D...

Too many high paid players not the depth as a Canucks fan I love Dakota Joshua. He would be someone I would go after. Your stars have to perform well in both playoffs and regular season.
It's up to the coach to develop a playoff system. If it falters, don't do line up changes but analyze why the system is failing and adapt accordingly. This is what NHL playoff coaches know. Too bad Keefe doesn't.

I think I would keep Matthews and Nylander.
Trade the two home boys if possible and get some good power forward for the first line and some other center with character for the second.
Good goalie, beef up the defense a little.
What they need is leadership, it's what's missing most and they need to find it outside the team.
I would get Kadri back if possible, that would change things.

As an Islanders fan, I was relieved to see John Tavares go to the Leafs. Not surprised nothing of significance has happened in five playoff seasons, and this one will be no different.

Matthew's is hurt very clear to see! Too much offensive star power and not enough physical fire power we have seen this before! The leafs have a great offense but they lack defense and in playoff hockey defense rules you can lack offensive weapons and still win with physical toughness! This is not a coaching problem it's a G.M. problem! They need to trade one of there offensive stars (definitely not Matthews) and bring in a couple of good defensive players I am a die hard Bruins fan and I expected a tougher series! It's not over yet but I don't see the leafs winning 3 straight without a healthy Austin Matthews! No matter what happens in this series the next round will be tough Florida is a beast and the Rangers are a problem for anyone! Gotta love the NHL no matter what your team is ranked when the playoffs start if your team is clicking they have as good a chance winning the cup regardless if they are the 8th seed or 1st! Hockey is a timming game and good physical hard work is very disruptive! Still though the leafs offense is deadly when they are on their game my condolences to the Leafs fans your team seems to let you down every year! 😢
I don't know how far the Bruins will go I think they have a good chance to win the eastern conference because of how well Swayman is playing but it will be a battle the feeling in Boston is we want another offensive weapon but it's hard to complain when we are on the verge of eliminating the best offensive team in the world and is proof that great offensive teams are not guaranteed to advance in the post season!

The solution is to clear some salary cap by trading one of the top players. You don't need Matthew, Nylander, Marner and Tavares taking up salary cap and not producing as they should. Clear one or two of those bad bois and get yourself one or two good D's and perhaps a more solid goalie than Samsonov.
That's about it. There's no secret recipe here. Whoever doesn't jive with Matthews and Marner in that top 4 quatuor needs to go. If Marner and Matthews can't play together, you trade one of the two.
The problem for the Leafs isn't a problem of talent. They got plenty of that. They just don't seem to have any heart and chemistry. Too many big egos on that offense, not enough leadership. Oh, the other problem is that they got no trade deals with most of those players so they *have* to keep running this team for another year.
