- My first completed run, that is. Sounds like there's got to be a catch right? Well, there is. I only have a small chance of actually being able to finish the run! Follow me as I show you the run, and the reasoning for each of my decisions!

5,4% are honestly insanely good odds for a speedrun compared to other games
True, I watch Pokemon speedruns once in a while and the luck needed to get top tier runs there is insane, like resetting the start for 5 hours insane.
My mind wanders to the SeaUrchin category where the top runs need to find the Living Hat lmao

Seanie Dew's biggest hurdle when doing speed runs is Seanie Dew.

Can't wait to see Blade do a seeded run of this and get an emerald from the first rock in the skull cavern.
He could probably get it from fishing (treasure.) It's a method he's used in the past. Geodes also, I believe. Some fish ponds can give emeralds and those are definitely predictable if you know your game seed. That said, I dunno how viable fish ponds are for speedruns. Getting 5 seaweed and green algae doesn't seem particularly fast.
I don't think the alternatives matter here since he needs desert access for the trader anyway. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing some "interesting" applications of the fact you can access the Skull Caverns without the key, at least during the festival. Since people have tried just about every challenge you could even think of for this game, I'm sure there are a few where that would be relevant.
I genuinely believe Sal did this whole thing not because he just wants to hold the WR, but to cause pain and suffering to anyone who wants to be the WR holder.
You can manipulate the gift you get at the Winter Star festival based on the time you enter Town. In one of my save files (where I tried getting the tea set), I found that Abigail gifted me wine when I entered Town at 11:00. I got a Ruby when I entered Town at 9:00, Deluxe Speed Grow at 10:00, a Nautilus Shell at 12:00, and an Emerald at 1:00
I'm not sure if this is consistent with all NPCs but its worth a shot if anyone is interested to try this method out.
You can absolutely manipulate it - but resetting the day and trying different entry times for more rolls is just timeless

I audiubly gasped when you sold the wine, forgetting that you can just buy it back.
About the end note: actually the category can be done much faster if you trust that you'll get wine on winter year 1 and do all the prerequisites during that year. then you eat and drink right after
Would it be faster? The emerald is still a problem. If you want to get it from the skull cavern, you need either to complete the mines (but at that point, you'd be seeking the emerald in the mines themselves instead) or go to the desert festival, but getting to it in Spring Y1 demands so much preparation that it'd get in the way of the speedrun. So do you get to mine floor 80+ instead? That's also time consuming, and it doesn't eliminate the winter forage farming either since you also need the desert trader.
You still need to grind for money and winter is the best season for that.

I'm like 99% sure "FoxyBaphomet" should be pronounced Phonetically. Baphomet is not a fancy word, it's the name of a biblical demon, Baphomet, which is pronounced exactly how you're reading it, so "Foxy baf-oh-met"
It's French, but I imagine it's one of those words where American pronunciation is just more common at this point
â@@salmence100 Interestingly, while it's probably French, the French itself is a corruption of an older Semitic-language word. Since Semitic languages DO pronounce the "t" on the end, I suspect "Baphomet" SHOULD be pronounced with the "t" even if it's taken from French, as it's likely that's the original root.
@@salmence100 baphomet, is a being from the Zoroastrian religion. it predates the french by about a dozen or so thousand years. the T is ABSOLUTELY pronounced. i dont know who boffomay is but i do know a baphomet. ive never once heard it pronounced baphomay.
Baphomet is not biblical or demonic.

well done. even it was not perfect, it has been you who introduced this new method.
It's 25,000 gold earned to have Demetrius set up your cave. You can also reset the day to reroll your Feast of the Winter Star gift (but not the gift giver) so it's more like 75% chance you can get the wine from that. Like yeah obviously it's time loss if you don't get the wine first try but if your goal is just to finish a run then that saves loads of irl time sleeping to winter again.

Plenty of people will do this. The odds aren't that low. A 5.4% checkpoint 14 minutes in is nothing compared to even many other Stardew speedruns.
I've seen a couple of runners like ATwentySomethingLoser give it a try! Also when using the 'y' key method to sleep, the check is only like 8 minutes in, much more bearable!

I dont know if this works for wine, altough there isnt a reason why it wouldnt, but if you sell produce at pierre and dont close the window you can rebuy it for the price it was sold for effectively giving you a refund. Its the same for selling fish to willy

1:06 25k* total actually, had to check wiki coz I was unsure but I could've sworn on my current file I had Greenhorn (achievement for 15k total) but Demetrius hasn't visited me yet

Want to say, 5 tries for wine at the festival isnt really incredibly lucky: 94.6% chance to NOT get wine, so for n attempts P(Wine) = (0.946)^n
So when n=5 the chance of you not getting wine at least once is 76% (i.e. approx 25% chance that you get wine once in 5 tries)
So for context that's basically the same as flipping a coin and getting heads twice in a row, on your first attempt.
Love your content btw and this by no means diminishes the mental torture of resetting runs for an hour before getting a run that is viable. Just thought you'd enjoy the math!

Largely just that checking the cart is the exact same strategy no matter what but item drops can have different strategies involved

Is it that much faster to pay for the Joja Membership and buy the single option for the bus than saving the 5000g and paying for each bundle of the vault?
Considering you have to enter the community center, then interact with the scroll, then wait a day, then meet with the wizard, then complete 4 other bundles before you can access the vault bundles, yes I think grinding for the extra 5000g is a lot faster.

I assume the Traveling Merchant is disabled via the rules, because I could see just making enough and looking at the inventory it has each time and then buy those from there.

My guess is probably planting crops and sleeping and watering until they're grown

I thought you previously said that clay farming was no longer possible in 1.6? do you have a new pattern that works? Where would I find it?
You have to turn on legacy mode in your settings at the very beginning of the save file. Otherwise, all forms of clay farming are still no longer possible.

Instead of taking 10 minutes each run to sleep and hope you get wine, couldn't you of just put your seed into the stardew valley predictor at the beginning of each run and then just reset at the very beginning if it said you weren't going to get it? I feel like that would of been quicker
I believe there's a global rule for all speedrun categories that would prevent that
