      For some gameplay comparisons we can leave opinion aside and be objective. In Sims 3, if my sim completes a good LTW or evil LTW, what's the difference? Serious question.
      There's no difference. (And just imagine the outrage if they did this with Sims 4.) All LTWs have the same reward: points. That's how superficial Sims 3 is. If your goal is to buy things with those points, it makes sense to simply do the easiest available LTW every single time, on every single sim.

    • @oceanegougeon3025
      @oceanegougeon3025 Před 3 lety +16

      @@stephengalanis you really want to go the LTW route? Aspirations in the Sims 4 are mere game pack tutorials, that's the main annoying thing there. No one cares about the number of reward points, most care about the storytelling aspect of it... In the Sims 3, LTW are difficult to achieve and there are soooo many different ones. In the Sims 2, they're difficult to achieve, and you get a platinum aspiration for the rest of your life. In the Sims 4, they don't mean anything and can be completed in a week at most...

    • @stephengalanis
      @stephengalanis Před 3 lety +7

      @@oceanegougeon3025 You've described advantages of TS4 aspirations, not disadvantages. I do the Beach Life for the trait. It's good that it doesn't take too long, and my sims gets benefit from that trait most of their life. I do the Nerd Brain of for the trait too. Some are more tutorial than others, but the game gives an incentive to do them, a reason to choose one over the other. Completing City Native, however stupid the reward trait, is not functionally identical to completing the Bestselling Author that unlocks the Book of Life.
      It's bad game design to earn a sword that can defeat the final boss for completing the game... because you can't use it if it comes too late. The difficulty in Sims 3 aspirations detracts from their value. By the time you finish it and get the points, you don't need it and the sim is nearly dead. TS3 is guilty of this not only with pointless LTWs but skill challenges. The 200 bottles of nectar comes to mind.
      But you do agree that Sims 3 LTWs are essentially different in name only. At least we agree on that.

      @oceanegougeon3025 Před 3 lety +15

      @@stephengalanis hum I see we have very different gameplay styles... You take the Sims as a game to win, but that's not what the game is about. As I said, it's the storytelling aspect of it that is important. What's the point of those traits in the Sims 4, when we know they're not even that meaningful gameplay wise?
      Also, you seem to like your game to be easy, good for you, but that's not the same for everyone else. I like challenge, living stuff alongside my Sims in a way, telling stories... Not doing the same thing over and over with no depth attached to the Sim. I never really used reward points in the Sims 3 anyway, I just like a good story... Do you see now how empty the Sims 4 are for players like myself (and I'm far from being alone in this case, especially since the Sims is not a game where you "win", your sword analogy makes little sense here)?

    I know this seems shallow, and this is completely subjective, but I just love the graphics of the Sims 4. Sims 1 & 2 have lower quality graphics but they still look good and have a charm to them IMO, but somehow Sims 3 just looks really outdated to me. And graphics is really important to me which is why I’d still prefer Sims 4 with mods than Sims 3. Although I do love and miss the open world of Sims 3! Also, I mainly look at The Sims as a building tool first and life simulation game second, which is also probably why I still enjoy TS4, I completely agree that it has the best build mode (TS3 beats it with the swatches tho).

      I find TS4 to have basic huge problems that keep me frustrated and the worst part is that they don't seem to care to fix it. Emotions, whims, aspirations, traits,worlds... I find all of this things poor and for me are the worst aspects and a downgrade from the past games.

    I agree with almost everything except the issue of the ‘quick buck’. Yes, the individual items in TS3 would add up to a hefty sum if you bought them all but, realistically, no one would do that. Whereas a lot of people have bought many or all of the packs for TS4. Even people who hadn’t done that with previous games. And part of the reason for that is why I have to disagree.
    The Sims 3 store was an entirely secondary feature. I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of players only ever snagged a handful of items--personally, in the 8 years I played TS3, I think I spent maybe 40 bucks in the store which is a high estimate. But let's estimate a bit higher than that. Let’s say that, somehow, people blew as much as $200 in the store. Even then, it’s still less of a cash grab than what they’ve done with TS4.
    Because at least with TS3 the content in the store was truly supplemental and each pack was a complete product in and of itself. With TS4, they're withholding gameplay and features previously available and putting them in watered down packs and kits (the fact that there are now two additional types of pack says a lot as is). This is already getting a bit long so I’ll just use two examples here: First, TS3 Ambitions. In that one EP you received 6 professions, 1 new rabbithole career, and 8 self-employment jobs. That’s 15 new jobs in one pack, not even touching on all other gameplay features. Compare that to TS4: Get to Work where for the same $40 bucks you get 3 interactive careers and retail opportunities. Or look at TS3: Late Night in which you get apartments, vampires, a fame system, the ability to form a band, the film career, updates to the music and sports careers, group outings, club dances, along with new traits, skills, and even zodiac signs. To get even close to that in TS4, you need the City Living EP, Get Famous EP, Vampire SP, and Get Together EP. So again, that’s $40 for one pack, and a whopping $130 in TS4 for gameplay that *still* isn’t equivalent.
    And it’s been that way since the start. There were 63 traits in TS3 base game. There was also a favorites system, burglars, cops, firefighters, wishes that were pertinent to the sim's interest/mood/and current state (I miss pregnancy cravings/wishes to this day), create-a-world, rabbithole venues for variety, and, of course an open world with *97* lots. Yeah, yeah, they wanted to make the game ‘more accessible’ but that really meant ‘make more money by selling more units’. More units that offered less product (let’s not forget that on launch there weren’t even toddlers or pools) at a higher price. The main good things there are to say about TS4 bg aren’t even about gameplay. Just the graphics, build/buy, easy CAS, and better looking Sims.
    If you get all the packs currently available (plus Cottage Living) for TS4 at MSRP, you’ll spend more about $800 and still be missing significant chunks of gameplay, items, abilities, and features available in previous games. For TS3 if you spent MSRP on all of those packs it’d be about $600. Add in that overly high estimate of $200 bucks in store content from earlier and you’re hitting about the same amount you’d pay for TS4 but have received way more for your money. There are 42 packs/kits for TS4 and they *still* haven’t caught up. In TS3, there were a total of 43 careers in 20 packs. TS4 has double the amount of packs but somehow 10 less careers (this is counting each track of the freelance career to directly compare to the self-employed careers). TS3 wound up the game with 86 lifetime wishes, whereas TS4 has almost half that in aspirations (and they’re not even half as in-depth). And traits? Um, TS4 doesn’t even have 63 traits *total*.
    So yeah, the Sims 3 store was definitely there to coax the players into spending a bit more cash and, sure, the pokes to use it were annoying. But TS4 is a massive cash grab. There’s no comparing the two.

      I disagree, I don’t think ts4 is worse in the quick buck just because a lot of people buy all the packs. The difference is more that before a lot of people bought packs on CD, while buying it online makes it easier to buy a lot on a whim (if you’re an adult with the card information).
      And the audience was younger in ts3, while now sims fans that have grown up can afford all the packs and buy them. I don’t think all the teenagers and kids playing ts4 has all the packs and you can see it easily on the gallery how much more downloads you get from uploading a base gane build than one with a lot of packs. I think it’s CZcams and the adults in the comment section than skews your opinion that everyone buys all the packs

      Ts3 and ts4 differs in gameplay with that the sims 3 has more one off “things to do”, while the sims 4 has systems like the club system, holidays, vampire, sorcerer and get famous skill trees, the whole parenthood system, and the sims 3 just … does not. I miss generations from the sims 3, but I prefer playing with the sims 4 and all the freedom it gives and all the systems you can use with it. The sims 4 feels deeper than ts3 because emotions are more than good and bad, likes and dislikes which we got now ACTUALLY matter in gameplay. But I feel this is an unpopular opinion

      Yeah, I actually also liked it, but my favorite thing about The Sims 3 in CAS was the color wheel, which made it easier to create my hair color in-game. I also liked it gave more traits (Sims 3 me was: Good, Family-Oriented, Absent-Minded, Insane, and Creative with Surrounded by Family lifetime wish). For a long time, Sims 4 didn’t have my hair color until they added a few more colors, BUT I like recreating characters in The Sims 4 and one character from another video game has dark purple hair.
      I think that I did fine on her outfits and her dark makeup (ESPECIALLY the eyeliner), but her lavender hair is just off-putting and doesn’t make her look like the goth she is (yes, she has the Gloomy trait, but visually speaking, she doesn’t look gothic enough). Instead, she looks like an edgy emo instead of the gothic, gloomy, musical prodigy on piano she actually is. Personally, it took HOURS on both games to make a single character but I remember Sims 3 being easier to get the hair colors you desired. Sims 4, unless you want mods, too bad!

    Very fair breakdown. I think I would add ‘ease of gameplay’. Compared to past iterations, sims 4 is remarkably easy to launch, play and maintain (unless you play with a lot of mods that require constant updating). I absolutely LOVE sims 2, but the amount of time I spent ‘fixing’ my game so it would run smoothly or meet my computer specs. I legit became a computer guru because of that game 😆 I dreaded every loading screen or pink flashing glitch.
    Didn’t really get into Sims 3 but it sounds like for some players it was a nightmare to run after awhile. Too ambitious for its own good I suppose. With Sims 4 I can honestly say that I’ve spent little to no time trying to ‘fix’ it. Aside from bugs that come with it, whenever I run into a glitch it’s almost always a matter of removing a mod or piece of CC. It’s easy to repair. Glitches don’t have a domino ripple effect on your save files so you don’t have to panic about something not working right. I haven’t lost a single save file in all these years of playing nor lost any sleep over trying to fix something. That can be really appealing to players who just wanna have fun.

      the problem with the sims 3 and its loading is it was too ambitious for the hardware available at the time it was supported. I've been researching and there are a bunch of people with good computers who can run the sims 3 with all eps and sps pretty well with minimal loading time. the main problem (I have gathered) is its a 34 bit game. if they released a 64-bit version of the game now, I'm sure it would run about the same as it did circa 2010 and have similar loading times to the sims 4 even. unfortunately, I doubt this will ever happen unless windows stops supporting 64 bit applications like apple did to get this to happen.

    1- Gallery: Agree. The Gallery is super convenient and easy to use. I love that you don't have to quit the game to install a new lot or Sim.
    2- Build/Buy: Agree about Build Mode. It's never been easier to build whatever you want and the tools are powerful and easy to use. I disagree about Buy Mode because the lack of Create-A-Style limits my creativity, especially when it comes to combining stuff from different packs.
    3- Hair: Disagree. I don't think TS3 hair looks good by any means, but I LOATHE the play-doh looking hair in TS4. I use CC hair for both.
    4- Cheats: Disagree. The Sims 3 has one core cheat: "testingcheatsenabled true" and that pretty much allows you do drag relationship and needs bars without having to do anything else. You can even edit Sims in CAS without having to enter the CAS Full Edit mode cheat. The only thing Sims 4 has over TS3 is the ability to quickly cheat skills.
    5- Faces: Agree. The Sims 3 suffers from the "potato face" syndrome. It's really hard to make unique Sims without custom sliders and mods. The Sims 4 allows you to create all kinds of Sims and faces are overall more pleasant-looking.
    6- In-Game Ads: WHAT? You do realize you can disable the in-game store from the options menu, right? RIGHT? Oh, dear...
    7- Pumping Out Content: Partially agree. Both games are guilty of this, and at least TS3 EPs give you more content and gameplay for your buck, but the Store was overpriced and there was too much content (some of it of dubious quality). I don't think any game wins this round.
    8- Travelling to Other Worlds: Agree. Though, as you probably know, it's possible to travel to any installed world using NRaas Traveler and not lose anything from your home world.

I mean in the sims 3 you can switch household but even if you have story progression off other sims the sims can still do stuff when you are away. @blossommystro8047 Před 3 lety +47

    I've been playing since 2019 and recently picked back up The Sims 3 and just today started with The Sims 2 as well.
    Now everything is subject to opinion but one thing I saw that told me a lot about what 3yrs of the sims 4 has done to my series outlook is when a couple I was playing just had a baby and the father autonomously walked up to the crib to change a diaper and then went to feed the dog like it was nothing.
    I don't know if anyone can get the sentiment of what that means but in The Sims 4, every time the babies cry a kid or adult, a parent the fecking nanny, would coo in their sobbing face and then just stand there for 20sim minute before MAYBE changing the diaper or someone else comes to coo and then there's 3people crowded around the crib.
    So far I've never felt stress or anger with my sims in 3. If they have an accident, are too tired to fix the sink, are late to work, or are tired or hunger it feels like my fault. Not like they were hungry and decided to eat cereal instead of making a meal for their family even tho they have max cooking. Now their daughter has to have yogurt for dinner because they're off playing their 7th round of TERIS.
    In The Sims 2 if someone is using a sink and they can't wash a dish they don't just put the dish on a shelf, they reroute the SAME action to the nearest sink after waiting a bit.
    Everyone talks about 2 and 3 are better than The Sims 4. They quote interaction(by the way it's true the sims 2 is cute as heck) or how much you get in an expansion. But no one told me how much it feels like they're a family and care for each other as much as you're supposed to. in the sims two, they seem genuinely happy to see each other and not like 4 people who share a house. Sims 4 families feel like roommates that happened to have started living together or neighbors in a common house. In the other games, I feel like I'm watching and aiding a family to grow and adding slight drama here and there.
    In the sims 4 it feels like they're pets I can't train and have to keep from imploding constantly. A house cat that walks around dances, uses the computer then takes constant naps even tho it's 2am.
    I love all sims games I just mentioned but I have to admit, Sims 4 is not a game, just a sandbox or simulator. And a stressful one, maybe a boring one too 40% of the time

    • @RedVelvetyJess
      @RedVelvetyJess Před 3 lety +8

      I totally agree with most of this, especially the "Sims 4 families feel like roommates," and "It feels like they're pets I can't train," bits. I've been playing Sims 2 a lot myself lately, and usually all I do is make sure they don't starve to death and just watch what they do on their own. When they're related they really do seem like a family. Like John and Jennifer Burb interacting with Lucy and her dancing on their feet?? Dustin Broke tucking his little toddler brother Beau in and kissing his forehead?? Absolutely adorable!! I feel like I have to force cute autonomous Sims 4 family interactions and that even then they still aren't as fulfilling for me as they are in Sims 2. (No hate to the Sims 4 or its super-fans of course, I know some people love it more than the earlier games and that's totally cool.)

      I totally get what you mean. I didn't really realize how much better autonomy is in the prior games--or at least TS3 which I reinstalled it the other night. I made a quick test household and was spending some time reminding myself of how things worked with the pets. While I was playing as a horse, the sim took care off all his needs and indulged his interests (a novel concept in TS4) without me having to click a single button for him. He didn't starve or pee himself or just stare at a wall for six sim-hours. In TS4 they just stand around with that stupid ass smile on their face, waiting. I can't tell you how many times I had to check to see if I'd accidentally turned autonomy off.

      @N A Well, I'm a man with degrees in philosophy, and I'm not bored by it. The trait system in Sims 4 is far superior and a clear evolution of the LTW system in Sims 3 -- where every reward for every LTW was the same. I enjoy raising supersims, with all the childhood aspiration traits, and all the positive parenthood character traits. I enjoy stacking rare traits like Sulani Mana and Father Winter's Baby on aliens. (Seriously, the Sulani Mana / Elementals / Child of the Island system is very good, it's good game design.) Sims 4 doesn't have to be a nostalgia trip that just retreads older games. It's allowed to be it's own IP. Older sims games basically have no feeling of progression like Sims 4 does with adding more and more traits over a sim's life.
      If you have Pinterest, find me. My very own Sims 4 House Designs --> The Foam Residence. That's my first save, started back in 2014, which involved seducing Nancy Landgraab. When I realised I didn't know how to pay the bills, I created a new family. One day I saw my first sims children walking down the street, and clearly I hadn't started a new save. So I went back to save them. There's no cheats involved there. Every item was unlocked, crafted, fabricated, earned, dug up and authenticated in game. I don't know how other people play, but I enjoy Sims 4.

So EA instead of making better worlds. they decided that your are able to travel to all of that to make up for the size anf the limitations. but it makes no sense, like are this "worlds" just neighborhoods, boredering each other? are they supposed to be in different countries or within simnation. if they want us to play with life than why dont they make it possible to actually play with it

    I think your number is off with TS3 store. There are over 3000 objects in the store, at an average of 233 sim points. A sim point is about $0.10...which means that it's over $74000 to own everything from TS3 store + base game + DLC.

    I don't think that the Sims 3 Store Content should be taken into account when trying to determine which game is more expensive because the Store Content does not alter gameplay that much, whereas the Expansion Packs and the Game Packs do. TS4 has so many packs that could have been just one merged pack, but EA decided to sell so little for so much. There are 40-something packs all together in TS4, and the content in a couple of those packs combined (especially Game Packs) would barely equal to the content on one TS3 EP. Personally, I don't mind seeing the store content I can purchase during build and buy modes, as long as EA doesn't try to shove shallow and glitchy content down my throat for 20-40 bucks a pack.
    I agree with your other points though, especially about the TS3 base game hair. They look off.

    Agree with hairstyles and pudding faces. TS4 just has better looking sims.
    Agree with World Travel in TS4. I hope TS5 will bring back sims being able to go to multiple worlds without losing relationships.
    Agree with Gallery it's better then the TS3 Exchange.

    Sims is nothing without mods scenarios are boring aspirations have nothing to do with traits or even careers really everyday wishes and whims in sims 4 are nothing like sims3 that relate to what they’ve done for the day or is still doing sims 4 honestly is aesthetically pleasing like you can go camping and do the same exact thing camping as you did home sims 3 never put out packs so low in gameplay and with regurgitated buy items we always got something new

  • @knusprigeschuhsohle7939

    I understand that they didnt want to make Sulani just a vacation world and give the island culture substance but I think leaving out hotels/vacation/leisure is really a missed opportunity cause it could have made for some great storylines and depth to have that very reals conflict between preserving culture and nature and gentrification play out - with family rivalries, maybe some landgraabs literally landgrabbing to build tourist attractions and the traditional households and elders protesting, and it would have given the pollution aspect and the conservationist career which they did put in the game would make a lot more sense

    It's really great to see someone that doesn't only complain about what's wrong but istead, talks about and even compliment what's right and what's cool about the game, there are a lot of bad things in sims 4, but there are a lot of other bad things in sims 3 too, you can't deny it, that's why I just play them all 😂😂

    The biggest negative with the sims4 to me is that it is a cash grab game. The only reason sims4 is better in any way is bcuz it is a newer game. The sims 2 was focused on gameplay and realistic sims. The sims3 focused on the open world and lots of hobbies and objects. The sims4 is focused on making money by doing as little as possible. The sims4 is only “better” bcuz it’s newer than the others so it looks better and performs better.

    Personally, there's a lot the Sims 4 does right, but imagine if it was actually shipped with or added everything that the Sims 3 did right as well. I think we'd see a much happier fanbase than what's been witnessed since the release of the Sims 4. Honestly, I'd be happy with a remaster of the Sims 3 that has the graphical style and quality of the Sims 4, with as few of the glitches possible from either.
    Edit: forgot to mention, I don't mind a couple graphical errors. If a sim happens to look like a long-necked psycho every now and then, that's fine. I'll take graphical glitches over extreme framerate glitches.

    Likes and dislikes to me are actually better than sims 2 because i love how your sim will be doing something and it will randomly ask you to add that to likes or dislikes. It adds so much character. Graphics too. Im sorry, i know sims 3 has so much but i cant see half of it cos its slow and dark. Careers that you can join in like acting, detective etc. I love them. And the new pack with bunnies and cows? I mean.. Im really beginning to love sims 4 more than any other pack now. Sims 1 is still the top but.. Sims 4 is the runner up
