- The Sims 4 has been around for a while now, some would say it has overstayed it’s welcome! I’ve been seeing a few posts lately from simmers who are missing some of the best bit we got in the sims 3 and I’ve heard that the word on the street is that the sims 3 is better than the sims 4. Well I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and find out which game is better in a new comparison series where I’ll be looking at the top features of the sims 3 and sims 4 games and expansion packs to conclude which sims game is best.
This is the fifth video in this series and this time we are comparing the sims 3 seasons with the sims 4 seasons!
Re-visiting these packs made me realise how good both of them are in their own way. The sims 3 seasons had those awesome seasonal festivals with activities to do! Plus we had Halloween!
The Sims 4 also introduced the ability to choose which holidays your sims celebrate with the new calendar system, but where is Halloween?

Every time I watch one of these videos, I highly debate downloading the Sims 3. I have only ever played sims 4, but now I understand why so many people love sims 3 and are disappointed with the sims 4 quite often. Love these videos! 💕
I haven't played the sims 3 for ages before i made these videos and it's making me miss so much stuff that we used to have!
As someone who grew up on Sims 4 and now have played and enjoyed the Sims 3 for months (I have a save with a 7 gen long family), I would highly recommend it. Although it may be laggy and slow, the open world and personalities make up for it!
You can enjoy the entire world at once and see other sims’ lifes unfold around you. Generations is a pack I’d say I can’t live without as it adds so much personality to practically every life stage, wether it’s the canes for elders or adults midlife crisis’ - or if your teen is in a rebellious moodswing. Don’t get me started on proms!
The only loading screens you encounter are at the start, when you save and when you leave the game. The worlds and Sims can also be really costumized! Their wants aren’t broken like TS4’s whims have been for a long time. If you don’t raise your children properly you can’t choose their traits - there’s consequences! Skills and friendship aren’t easy to learn either.
But that’s just my opinion 🥴 (also in terms of script mods I recommend NRaas Story Progression & Master Controller!)

I really recommend the sims 3 if you love family story lines. The sims 3 family tree and family interaction is so much more in depth than the sims 4. You open the 4 family tree and can only go so far whereas in the sims 3 you can easily see and track a multi gen family tree and the townies really have their own lives and choosingly leave jobs and preselected relationships. It feels a lot more alive
I started again 6 weeks ago and love it. Especially with a good laptop, high settings, custom worlds and nraas performance and gameplay mods it's awesome. It used to be hell with my 2006 laptop in 2009😂 Now it's awesome, it works great and with all expansions, so much to do, I don't know what to pick. With the sims 4 I get so bored fast even though I own everything. Sims 3 on high settings looks really pretty, realistic. You can also make really pretty sims, esp with cc hair to go with it. It's a bit harder, but I've made some really pretty girls and boys with sliders and their offspring is pretty too.
In sims 4 getting a tan wasn’t in it until island living came out
Can you get a tan if you don't have Island living?
@@mybebelambs7389 I don’t know but I know when seasons was out people were angry bc u couldn’t have a tan and that’s why the island living poster features the tanning sim

@@wes9000 Yeah, the hail removal is one thing I don't get the most in Sims 4 Seasons (that and tan removal, which was obviously done on purpose to give Island Living more things to brag about). It's great we have extreme rainstorms and snowstorms, I love those things, but hail is part of life too and can be quite destroying. I loved hail in Sims 2, where it could destroy your crops and even kill your Sims. In Sims 3 they toned the hail down significantly, which was sad and unfortunate, but at least it was still there. But in Sims 4, they removed it as a whole and I never understood why they did. They also removed fog in Sims 4, but I could live without that. Hail, however, I miss significantly.
@@mybebelambs7389 no, tanning in the seasons 4 isn't even in the game unless you get a mod for it.
Literally all the items you listed in sims 4 are in the sims 3 base game or in seasons
Sims 4 seasons is honestly one of the best packs for the sims 4 but it still doesn’t beat ts3 seasons for me. It comes with some great gameplay mechanisms with wide usability unlike most of the expansion packs in the sims 4 but it just misses out a bit on the level of immersion. The weather just doesn’t feel as real (lack of snow depth and other such small details that really make the weather feel all affecting) and the holidays border on annoying because they are less things to enjoy and more a list of things to do. That could be fixed if your played sims would autonomously do actions based on the day and their traits if you had free will on
I never had the chance to play the sims 3 when I was younger, so watching this video and seeing the sheer amount of gameplay in one singular sims 3 pack genuinely shocked me. To have even half of that amount of gameplay in the Sims 4 you would need an expansion pack, a game pack and a stuff pack. I never understood the Sims 4 hate and slander until now.
Yeah that's why I wasn't happy with the sims 4 as a long time sims 3 player.
Kinda wish they could merge the Sims 3 festivals along with the customisable Sims 4 holidays

The Sims 3 is still hands down my favourite Sims game so far! It's unmatched and when you throw in some cc it's amazing

I don't know why but them doing that to the hot tub pissed me off lmfao. Like I can give the calendar a pass but the hot tub was literally a hot tub pack 😭

I've been playing Sims since the game first launched about 21 years ago.
Personally for me, the Sims 3 overall is my favorite iteration.
The Sims 4 is great, don't get me wrong. But IMHO, the Sims 3 is better in a lot of ways. I think that the difference between Seasons in both 3 and 4 is a perfect example of how, for me, 3 is better in a lot of ways.
@Arda I didn't say I wouldn't play Sims 3, though, did I? I also never said I wouldn't play Sims 4.

Agreed! I grew up with the sims 3 so ye lol, the only thing i liked about sims 4 is the build mode and that its less laggy. Oh and the toddlers major update! But the gameplay will always lack
I agree with you. I played Sims ever since it was released and enjoyed playing each iteration, but so far, Sims 3 is my favourite and I enjoy it the most. To be honest, if it wasn't for certain mods, I would, prabably, dropped Sims 4 years ago. It just doesn't have that deepness and immersion Sims 2 and especially Sims 3 does for me.
@@petrnovak7235 Yup. I've always loved the fact that each installment of the Sims has been better than the previous ones. Which is why, although I do greatly enjoy the Sims 4, I'm quite disappointed because, IMHO, it's just not as good as Sims 3. And the fact that mods are needed just to make the experience as good as its predecessor isn't exactly ideal.
Someone needs to mod the calendar into Sims 3 so we can just transition right over to 3 instead. It's the only thing I ever miss when I'm playing it, at least in terms of Seasons (I always miss the gallery bc I hate building haha)
I really like the private holidays that comes with the Sims 4. I love how customizable it is!
Sims 3 Seasons wins hands down for me. Especially since I love playing with Ocults (although the Zombie occult is the worst), and I just love the festivals (and while you can create holidays in Sims 4, you can add aspects to festivals to make them even more immersive and unique). Not having my favorite holiday, "Spooky Day," was also the deal breaker for me.

Sims 3 did do stuff a lot better in terms of value for money, even if there was lag and stuff I haven't encountered myself. I actually added Leisure Day into S4's calendar myself and am yet to test if we can add an 'Easter' Day to make use of the hidden painted eggs since that challenge was so short-lived and hasn't returned. I do love how you threw shade regarding Spooky Stuff, especially when we got a few items from that pack in Seasons via being cloned and re-skinned.
I do like how they've been expanding the Holiday Celebration pack over the years to be inclusive; and the fact that it's free in comparison to Spooky Stuff means that's one less thing to throw shade about, and also compliments the customisability of the calendar really well.

should I get seasons for sims 4
Sims 3 did Seasons FAR better. Yes, the calendar is a great feature, but at the end of the day it just adds a bunch of goals for a specific day. It's not game changing at all. Sims 3 Seasons had more types of weather (including hail and snow depth), festivals and tons of new activities, and a ton of new objects.
sims 4 has snow depth too as far as I know! plus the seasonal calendar came in the update for base game now.....
And TS3 has season-specific parties which are similar to TS4 holidays.

There is a pumpkin carving table! Also, we have Patchy. In addition, you can add Halloween via calendar and even get some trick or treaters if you have a candy bowl!

This is the one match-up where TS4 genuinely gives TS3 a run for its' money, in my opinion. Probably because they're so similar. The big feature each of them has that the other doesn't- TS3's festivals and TS4's customizable holidays- are both SO good that I don't know which is more important to me.
i honestly am kinda torn, i will have to give it to sims 3 though, JUST because of the festivals! many of these things were in base game (so i’ve heard) so as it always does, sims 3 wins!! they are quite similar though.
I liked The Sims 4 calendar feature and hot weather wear was a good addition, but The Sims 3 wins easily, just bc of treat and trick, deep snow, fog, hail and festivals
Sims 4 does have halloween and Easter you just have to add them the the calender yourself, Easter has Easter eggs hunts and the Easter bunny and Halloween has kids come in costumes and get candy ,but I think you have to have the spooky pack for that one ?

THE SIMS 4 can totally add this seasons festival because they host festivals like youth festival etc. with the snowy escape and city living packs.

I happen to love seasons from both games. Although I like it for Sims 4 a little bit better just because of the holidays.

That's why I often get stuck at home in the sims 4. Also there are grim reaper snowman, hockey snowman, Alien snowman, Meanspirited Snowman..etc..in the sims 3
These videos are so great! The detail really informs which packs I want to buy and which I want to avoid.
sims 3 seasons wins in my opinion because the festival were always so enjoyable and i find myself missing it in the sims 4 it makes me wanna go back just for the festivals
I love making up my own stories like that’s my thing, but I loved having someone hold my hand in a way and push me into a certain direction
Literally that’s what I love about the Sims 3 a pop-up would show up there was always something going on in the town that made me go. Oh hey, I should go do that.
But I don’t think I’ve actually really ever left my household in the Sims 4 ever it makes me kind of sad to realize that I don’t think anybody leaves there Home lot in the newer Sims game

I prefer 3 bcs it has festival grounds which remind me of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games LOL.
When comparing both as a separate dlc, the Sims 4 Seasons definitely wins, but when it comes to immersion and playability in the base game, Sims 3 could reign supreme.

I agree Sims 3 did seasons way better. Spring is mostly Valentine's day themed, as well as spring break themed. Summer is well just your typical summer and 4th of July themed. Fall is mostly Holloween and back to school or in my in real life work days themed. Winter is Thanksgiving and Christmas themed, I have to admit I missed the snowboarding in the Sims 3. It's just a lot of things to do in my case the world I played in seasons is the Pets world, rather than the base game witch makes it extra special.
For the Sims 4 vanilla season is very basic and gets boring real quick. To be fair enough with all the available DLCs installed it's a different beast, but still as I agree they did um messed up Holloween, and were is the community festivals.

hopefully in the sims 5 season is not an expansion pack and is a regular feature in the game i dont see why not they can come up with many other ideas to include other than seasons which should definitely be a base game mechanic

I don't think sunburn actually came in the Sims 4 seasons, it was added in island living

I think Sims 4 is better overall, but as far as Seasons go, I like 3 slightly more. I think the festivals put it over the top. But can't go wrong with any seasons pack for a Sims game, it should be automatic and it's adds so much to the game
Lol in Sims 4 I always add Halloween to my calendar. I'm also one of those weirdos who bought the spooky stuff pack since it's clearly my favorite holiday.
For festivals I use City Living. Their festivals aren't exactly like Sims 3 so I agree with you when you say Sims 3 wins.
They love adding random things later that should have been included in previous packs. That's why I look for mods to get what I want before buying these packs, it's all about money now

You’ve made a lot of mistakes in this video in terms of things that are in the base game, not in the expansion pack. Sims could always swim in the ocean in sims 3, I know because I played the base game on its own for over a year before getting any expansions. Diving boards are also in the base game.
I actually think ocean swimming was a base game update that came with the pack. I think i remember seeing it in the update notes

The snowball and waterballon fight animations in Sims 4, is one of the most pathetic looking things I've seen. Water slides, Diving boards and Suntan's should've all been on the Seasons Expansion pack

I mentioned on another video of yours that the fact you grew up playing GTA1 (1997) and The Sims (2000) dates you somewhat.
I'm going to guess that you would've been born around 1989/1990. Therefore obviously you would have been around 7/8 playing GTA1 and 10/11 playing The Sims...?

I'm 44 as it is, and grew up playing Spectrum computers, Amigas, Atari ST, NES, SNES etc...
I’ve played all 4 Sims games and each one (Well, Sims 2, Sims 3 & Sims 4) handles ‘Seasons’ differently with each one having GREAT things about them and stuff that left ‘left out-ish’. The
Sims 4 had Absolutely BEAUTIFUL, each season has a gorgeous feel and color to it (especially autumn) however due to the lack of an open world, if you choose to go to Sulani in Autumn and your coming from like Willow Creek it doesn’t feel the same? If that makes sense, the worlds each have a different climate change from the current season and it doesn’t feel as all together as it did in the sims 3

i can only play sims 4 if i have mods, and i have tons of mods just to make it the way i want and it still just isn’t the way I’d like it to be. Usually i just play around and have fun, but when it comes to family gameplay I’ll always choose the sims 3

As much as i love sims 3, sims 4 won from me. The customization of the holidays and the quest you have to do is really entertaining to me. Not to mention on the gift giving holiday in the sims 3 sometimes the tree wont spawn despite havinf an enormous place for it
