I’m probably not the sharpest pencil in the cup, but as I watched you make pickles and reminisce on the generations of cooks past as well passing on your knowledge to future generations I had an epiphany, that generational families like yours, are the backbone that created, and to this day make this country a land of opportunity that with faith, love and hard work you can achieve your dreams. Thank You 🙏🏻

I don't can much now, I live alone and don't need much. I do however remember canning so many different things. There is a true art to preserving food and it is very satisfying to put up food for your family. It's great to see Corie learning to can. I gave her a bunch of my old jars to help her get into the canning process. I love seeing her carry on the tradition!

Pickle making time always reminds me of my Grandma Raines. She made the best ever! Grandma had 9 children and still managed a garden and all the chores associated with farming. She continued to can clear up until her last couple of years of life. I learned to make Bread & Butter pickles and I also made pickled beets using the small beets so it was very time intensive. When I see you and Corrie together, I remember my Mama showing me how to can. Corrie will never forget your times together.

Growing up I didn't care for bread and butter pickles. Now, I could eat a whole jar at a setting. Watching these canning videos from start to finish always makes me appreciate just how much goes into the preparation of good, wholesome food. God Bless you all and thank you for bringing us all together once again.

I too love all the hand-me-down canning equipment from my family...I have my husband's great-grandma's steamer canner that is over 100 yrs old. His mother used it to can green beans. I use it to decorate my kitchen now, and I also have her little teapot that she melted her canning paraffin in...there's still paraffin left in there. She got the teapot from her mother who was married in 1900. I have my mother's old pressure canner too and her wooden spoon she used to make jam. My ladle looks a lot like yours, Tipper. It was given to my mother when she married my dad in 1956. I could go on and on about my canning hand-me-downs from folks long-gone but well-loved. Thank you so much for reminding us how precious these things are and how important it is to pass them on.

I never dreamed gardening & preserving could be so much work. When I grew up we didn’t have much of a garden- just tomatoes & a few potatoes. The next time I go to the market I will stop at the produce & offer a prayer of thanksgiving to the workers who made all this abundance possible.

Tipper, watching this video, as with all your videos, I recall some of the very same memories as you. My mamma cooked everything but she never actually let us help with the cooking. We were allowed help with the preparation of the vegetables for preserving. We strung and broke the beans, peas, corn, peaches, apples and whatever else we were canning or freezing. This, of course, taught us the importance of food preservation. This is exactly where I learned to do all the things you and your family do. At the time we were helping prepare the different fruit and vegetables, I was sometimes not too happy about having to do all those things, but as I look back, I really treasure those memories. As always, thanks Tipper!!!!!!!.

While your video prep and step by step guide to your process is very enjoyable to follow, your closing story of the resourcefulness of the wife in need is purely Truly American! Similar to a relish. It has all the leftover veggies at the end of summer: yellow squash, onions, cukes, green tomatoes, colorful peppers, etc. It is so pretty in the jars and equally delicious!

Now you are speaking my language! I love love b&b pickles! I went to my local farmers market to buy some cucumbers only to find that they sell out as quickly as they get there. Which only keeps those prices up! Also there just aren’t that many coming in now. So it looks like I’ll be the first one in line at the farmers market next year. I’ll also be checking with the lady that I buy my peas and okra from. What I would really like to do is grow my own! Have you heard of anyone being successful growing their cucumbers in buckets? I'm from western NC but live in Alabama now. I made a batch of bread and butter pickles two days ago. My recipe is very similar but my technique is different. Unfortunately, I had to use store bought cucumbers but had my own home grown onions and peppers. The main difference in our technique is that I pack my jars with the cukes then prepare my brine separately. I add one garlic clove and one hot pepper to each jar then pour the hot brine in last. The satisfaction of hearing those lids 'pop' when they seal and then seeing the beautiful results on the shelf or on the table is pure joy! And Lord knows, I do love pickles! Thanks for sharing!

As soon as I saw your metal funnel, I was wanting it. I love old things. Mine is plastic. But I do have some nice old kitchen tools like your ladle. I got them at the second-hand store. I have a few things of my g-ma's, a box grater and colander. She loved bread and butter pickles. Love your cooking videos.

How I long for the kitchen up north in Wisconsin with all of the jars of canned peaches vegs. were there to cool over night !!! Meat in the Thanksgiving time as didn't have much room in the freezer then !!! But pies of peaches and cut up rhubarb was on the first shelve of the freezer with some other things in there !!! My Pantry LORDY It was a wonder that I ever got out of it !!! Bean green ones first then yellow ones and then a long row of mixed yellow and green beans !!! Had carrots canned and pickled beets IF YOU SAW THAT PANTRY YOU WOULD GO WOW IN THERE ALSO !!! Brings tears to mine eyes to think of my beautiful pantry in Eau Claire Wisconsin !!! LOVED MY PANTRY !!!

God this made vivid memories of my grandmother picklin pears from her trees, she made pear preserves too, come streaming back. This Pov made me flashback to 1968 in my grandma's kitchen, the smells even and yes, she ran us out of the kitchen! Thank you so very much

Those pickles look wonderful. I’ve only ever helped a friend can her bread and butter pickles once, years ago. To this date, they are the best ones I had ever tasted. I helped her with her 1 acre garden that year. We planted half an acre with corn and the rest with her other garden vegetables. Instead of putting in just a few zucchini plants, however, she planted nearly a full row of them! We had so much squash, we couldn’t give enough of it away. She had a bread and butter pickle recipe that she said she’d heard she could use zucchini instead of cucumbers for. So that’s what we used. I don’t remember anything about the recipe we used but they came out so crisp and good. Your recipe turned out looking so good, I know I would love them!! Would love to try them with the zucchini, but I really don’t know how to can and don’t have the supplies. Thank you for making this video and sharing it!

Tipper I love Bread and Butter pickles and those look so delicious. I have never used garlic or peppers in mine but I can tell those additions would definitely be a game changer in taste.

I have never cared for bread and butter pickles, although my grandmother canned them every year. They were just sweet pickles to me, but I'm trying this recipe this year. I have a feeling they will twang my buds.
