Riding the Galloping Goose Trail

- Come along for a ride up one of Victoria, BCs most classic rides, the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. This 110km out & back route features access to many urban sights, as well as Matheson Lake, Sooke Potholes Provincial Park, and Kapoor Regional Park. This ride was during a record-setting heat wave, so what best to have mid-ride, but an epic river swim.
And a special thanks to Barry.

Yeah, the heat last summer was awful. Got up to 43 in the kootenays. We would only ride in the early morning. Nice to see the goose.
Yeah, it was a hot summer for everyone out there.
Nice one Rob!! Was just wondering the other day where you’ve been. Love the commentary. More of that please!! Cheers!
Thanks Dan. It’s been a tough spring for me. Low motivation and work work work. Gotta pay them bills.
You look like a 70's super model whipping that beard in slo-mo. Love it all! Victoria, The Goose, The Beard. Go Salty or Go Home! 😎✌💯

@@SaltyBeard_Adventures Yes!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome trail system, pretty cool ride (well, figuratively anyway 🤣)
Yeah, lots of ways to get around (and out of) the city.
Awesome video bro hope to run into when I do this trip in September 2024.
Drop me a line when you around, see if we can cross paths.
@@SaltyBeard_Adventures ok!thanks.
A few years ago my wife and I flew to Calgary and had a road trip through the rockies over to Vancouver Island and stayed in Victoria - brilliant place.
Awesome 😎
I've heard of the unusually high temps in the West. Thanks for showcasing the trails. Absolutely stunning.
Thanks 😊 glad you enjoyed 👍🏻
Another awesome video, always look forward to a new one. So jealous of your riding area...... I need to get out more! Cheers
You’ve got some cool places to explore too !
Love that shot with your friend jumping over top of you into the water!
Sure was a fun day! And #%€! Hot
It's not only the wildest rides that are fun! Seems like some super nice trails!
Sometimes it’s the chill rides that create fond memories.
Looks beautiful. Thanks for including the ling to your route.
Thanks 😊
love both of these regional trails, mostly done Lochside because of the connection to the ferry but I've been down Galloping Goose a bit west as well.
Always lots to explore !!
A shot over your right shoulder. There actually is scenery on that side of your bike 😁
yes... there are some cool things over the right shoulder... only problem, my left hand doesn't work. No really, it doesn't. I only feel 1/2 my hand and have a fused wrist. Check out this video at 6:10. czcams.com/video/v08CwVPRpKI/video.html
@@SaltyBeard_Adventures I know. That's why my comment. It was intended as a good natured joke.
I love rail trails! We are blessed with some pretty awesome rail and canal trails here in Pennsylvania.
That make for easy access for riders of all abilities. I hate seeing abandoned rail lines just growing over. I wonder what it would be like if every abandoned rail line was instantly a bike path. Oohhh, connect the dots time!
@@SaltyBeard_Adventures ❤️yeah man I think the same way. Luckily we have some people here trying to connect those dots. I can ride from Philadelphia in southeastern Pennsylvania to northeastern PA almost all car free. Then there's the GAP. And all these trails are easy enough for my 8 year old nephew and my 60+ year old mom to ride.
rail trails are the great leveller for all age groups - no pun intended.
We came to the island and stayed in Sooke when I was over visiting my daughter in 2019.
She took me to see the potholes but it was April so too cold to go in the water.
I definitely want to visit the island again sometime.
It's a lovely place... busy at times, but there are some quiet places farther up the trail.
Sookins go in all year around ;)
Loved taking this ride with you Rob! Beautiful as always! :)
thanks :))
It was hard to find a (not crowded) swimming spot near Victoria in the heat that day - yours looks perfect!
That’s true, sometimes you luck out.
Such a lovely ride....♥♥♥
It's just a classic ride... long but easy rolling pace, with a perfect mid-ride lunch or swim!
I've been waiting for your new video on youtube, great job
Thanks 😊 it’s been a busy (non-cycling) spring.
Great Video Salty! I love learning about Victoria
Excellent video. The history of Victoria is fascinating. What a great bike ride along the old rail trail . That’s the nicest swimming spot I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing your bike ride. 👍
thanks for watching :)
Glad you enjoyed!
Rob, I think your beard needs its own Insta page! 🤣 Nice to see Barry out on the trail as well. I like his channel
LOL - now that’s funny !!!
Looks mighty refreshing on a hot day . Nothing like a dip in the potholes. How long does it take to dry out the beard once it gets wet? I wouldn't know....
I that heat, by the time I put on my shoes, I was completely dry. LOL
Love your video !how long from the ferry to Langford ?
About 90 min or so… depending where in Langford you need to go
I'd bet that swim felt amazing! I'm super jealous!!!
How much bar tape did you use when you wrapped your bars? Looking at doing something similar to mine. Best bars I've ever ridden. Definitely helped with hand issues on long rides.
double wrapped - cheap stuff under where I wanted extra padding and then a better quality on the outside. Just a regular amount of tape that you would get for drop bars.
Funny, y'all didn't LOOK hot....but I could FEEL the refreshing water when you plunged into it! LOL!
Q: Do you have, or will you ever get an e-bike?
A this time no... but I'll do whatever I must to keep rolling on two (or three) wheels as I get older. But for now, i'm holding together (kind of) - LOL
Great video! Thanks for the temperature conversion!
