- For this series I’ll be taking you with me through New York & New Jersey to various Music Stores & Record Shows. Sifting through CD’s, vinyl, and whatever else the stores have to offer. Then at the end I’ll un-bag the loot and discuss why I chose the ones I did. Come on…let’s go to the record store!

I love that he stores the CD's horizontally on the walls! MUCH easier to read the spines with the text that way! A bit trickier to get the cases though, but I'd take that any day instead of a twisted neck. What a cool record store, would hang out there if it was closer to me.
Awesome video as always. Best place to hang out! I can spend hours in a store like this.
Exactly! Record stores are more than just a place to buy music. It’s an awesome place to hang out and chat music and catch up on the latest things happening in the music world.
Your mention of this place made if my weekly record shop visit. 😂
Nice to see your revisit to Sound Exchange. Brings back a lot of great memories of when I went up there to New Jersey.
I meet Howard Stern there
Pretty good. Great seeing the store change a bit. Brendon, I hope you got a few cool things from the store.
Looks like a place I would go to at least twice a week if I were around.
When I was working remote I was there 2 and 3 times a week.
Blue Murder. The very first CD I ever bought. Excellent album.
I knew someone would enjoy that selection!
Haven't been out in Wayne in decades (since the late 80s when my Dad lived in NJ and worked both in Paterson and Wayne) but this place looks well worth a road trip to visit. I may do it.
WOW! I used to go to the Sound Exchange at least once a week beginning in the 70s in college and shopped there until moving to California in 1990. I thought they went out of business. The layout of the store hasn't changed too much. What a blast from the past this video is!
Wow that green fade to black 12 inch Friday night quarter back sticker is the one to get!
Great to see this, there are no record stores left where I live and I used to love going to them and having a look and picking up something unexpected from the bargain bin even sometimes, digital is very convenient but nothing compared to the excitement of getting the physical copies and reading the inner sleeve and the artwork.
Your comment makes me very grateful to live where I do ( near Asheville NC) There are 4 record stores in this area. You should take a vacation out here sometime.
@@Protometal66 would love to but it's a bit far as I'm in Ireland, lucky u with 4 record shops near u.
Planning my trip from Tennessee to sound exchange summer can't wait
I’m about an hour away from Sound Exchange, but took the trip over a few times now. Love the store. Always drop some good money every time I visit. Thanks for sharing Brendon!
Cool! Glad you’re able to get over and check it out. Totally worth it IMO.
Some day, I'll visit that store! I just need to cross an ocean for that... 🙂
Cheers.
When you do, let me know and we’ll make an event out of it!
@@BrendonSnyder Thank you Brendon! I might come back to New York in a couple of years, so who knows?!
Cool. Regards to the Garden State.
Like to spend a couple hours here. I miss the record stores from my hometown of Sydney Australia. There were so many. Ashwoods, Lawson Martin's, redeye records, utopia , anthem, Goulds book arcade etc .
Looks exactly the same as when I first visited in 1987.
Great video. That Joe Perry cd is pretty good, and he just announced a new one coming soon
It’s not entirely new. It’s a reworking of his last album.
Those cassettes bring back good memories apart from when the player would chew them up. Long live CDs.
In all my years of having cassettes, I don’t think I ever had one that gotten eaten. I saw it happen to others, but I was lucky.
@@BrendonSnyder I had brand new ones eaten and had to perform surgery to remove the damaged section and put back together but would be missing probably the best half of a song lol.
I just got Deep Purple in Rock on cd! Haha What a killer record from the second incarnation the band!
It’s one of my favorites!
Great video. I really enjoy watching these Let’s Go To The Record Store videos. Are there many record stores in New York city or New Jersey that you haven't visited? Are you planning to visit them and make a video about it.
There are no additional ones in NYC that I know of and that interest me that I haven’t already visited. There are maybe 10 additional all vinyl hipster places that don’t intrigue me so I haven’t filmed in them. For NJ, I’m still new and always finding places. There are a couple new ones I’ve recently heard about that I will eventually explore.
Will you be there on record store day April 22 sound exchange or any store in North jersey
Helmet in the background🤘🤘🤘
Yeah good stuff. Soundgarden’s Rusty Cage was playing too but got a copyright infringement notice and had to remove the sound. Oh well 🤷♂️
Hi Brendon
Do you know that John Norum has a sister that is also singing her name is Tone Norum
1. One Of A Kind. 1986
2. This Time. 1988
3. Red. 1990
4. Don't Turn Around. 1992
5. Stepping Out. 1996
I love the first two albums from Tone Norum. Great albums. Great singer.
Really high prices on the used CD’s. Have a record store right by me here in Philadelphia that has a bigger selection and sells everything for between $2.00 and $5.00. Cheers
Janes Addiction Strays album 🤘
Got to check it out I'm from Hazlet New Jersey I guess that's only about a twenty-minute ride
Awesome! Glad you’ve got a new record store to check out. You won’t be disappointed!
Looking for wild turkey turkey and green on red gravity talks on cd.
Yeah this is an amazing looking store and so much care and effort into maintaining it, also the pricing is great. Here in NYC Book Off was my go to and it’s totally gone down the drain, the pricing is out of control, and it’s pricing that is out of control on open stuff, I can maybe see it on sealed stuff, but open, used, its gotten very greedy and it shows how its not a “music” store.
Yes, Richard, the Book off near me in Orange County, CA. hiked up their prices on USED CDs to absolutely ridiculous levels, where they used to be three to five dollars for the majority, they are now right, nine, twelve dollars.....and ofen much more than that! They now are gouging us! When my music friends ask them why prices have skyrocketed, they say it's all done by computer, they price what computer tells them to! Won't be going there very often anymore! They do have a dollar cd section - still some decent finds there. SAD!
@@treff9226 Yes same here there is one in Midtown NYC that I used to go to at least once a week and always came away with stuff, they had these deals on the $1 stuff or $1.50 stuff now, but they haven’t had any buy more save more offers after re-opening in 2020 after the pandemic and they could open. It’s gouging at its best, I know some things they get are rare, and I can see if its sealed new etc..maybe you go for that price, but in the last few times I have been there I have now and then gone through their vinyl section which is in no order of any kind, but almost dirty, used, etc..and then charging $$$$ on it, I saw a worn copy of one of Taylor Swifts older albums for $50 WTF?
@@richardhenle2650 Lol! Swifty for fifty! Only person who can afford that is Taylor herself! Say you wanted an older AC/DC album, used, on disc - Highway To Hell would be around $12 same for Back In Black. Looking for Rush material - Permanent Waves, used for $15.....used! Then you see crazy stuff, like old Deep Purple or Zep for $25 a pop. Saw a Replacements album for $50, I asked the employee if we actually get to meet the band and go backstage at their next gig, for THAT PRICE! He didn't seem to like that question. Book Off does have excellent deals on books, but used electronics, comics, cards, vinyl.....forget about it. With this kind of price stabbing, they will now need a special " shoplifters day " where the public can take home as many items as they can carry out of store. Cheers!
Yes the store has a good selection of things. I found some hard to find Psychedelic Furs cds there. I would do a video on how they could be nicer to their customers. That l would like to see.
Why, what happened? I’ve never had an issue.
If you return something unopened or change your mind about a purchase it’s a problem. Spent a lot of money there in 2 visits. Will not go back.
Be great if you could sometimes open up a non-sealed jewel case for us to see the disc inside.
There are two issues with that. First, I need one hand to hold the camera and one hand to hold the album. So I don’t have an extra hand to open a CD or record. The second issue is that there really isn’t music more to see if I show the insides of these. I want to keep the video flowing at a quick pace. What might be interesting on the interior for you might not be for others and then it slows the flow. So I just show fronts and back and then you can Google for more info if it strikes your fancy. I can’t do all the work for you! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
That Hed PE album at 2:48 caught my eye: I thought the spine title was yellow, not white/light purple? It may just be a regional difference.
No idea, they’re not a band that I’m into so I wouldn’t recognize a difference like that. But good eye!
While I live near a handful of record stores, I don't believe any of them are as big as Sound Exchange. If I lived closer, I would definitely be shopping there. Hope you found some cool stuff not in your collection yet. Did you already have the Judas Priest ?
I'm curious what Robbys Prog album sounds like
always a score to find Rock Candy Records CDs at a real record shop. Most of those seen here aren't in production anymore
I agree. It’s so rare to see them in the wild that whenever I do I want to buy them even if I have them already 😂😂😂
A friend of mine is going to take me to see Amoeba Music in Los Angeles once I recover from my recent knee surgery. This is supposed to be the Cadillac of music stores in the So Cal area. The only other record store somewhat near me is Fingerprints in Long Beach. They are awesome.
I’ve heard of it. Should be really cool. Enjoy!
I'd love to visit Amoeba! From the videos on CZcams it looks massive. I would spend all day there id I didn't live all the way across the country
Pls share your WhatsApp number.
Robbie S. showed up today. You really need to get some of the Japanese bands in there. I really like this stuff, but too many old albums, it's time to move forward. Nothing wrong with favorite old groups, but I'm still like Yes used to be. I'm looking over the horizon. sorry, I had to rant. I hope the Sound Exchange keeps going forever because there are so few really good stores left. All the best.
It’s cool that you’re into the Japanese bands but I’m not. It’s not my thing. Sound Exchange could carry them, I have no idea. The things on this channel follow my interests which include those “old” groups. That’s why you’re seeing what you’re seeing.
@@BrendonSnyder I understand that and I'm not trying to denigrate or disrespect what you're doing. I'm for a lot of the older stuff too, if I wasn't I wouldn't have ordered the Steinhardt album or Six By Six but even those are new music. I'm just always sort of on a voyage of discovery and to be honest the Japanese rock and metal scene is what's really gotten me back into the whole scene. I just like to find fresh stuff all the time. Just remember that although I push the Japanese stuff I don't like all of it. Anyway, thanks for tolerating me and I'll not bother you about it again.
Have CDs gone up in price recently in America because of the increasing cost a new and second hand vinyl
Maybe a little here and there but overall not really.
What is the music at the background at 5.55?
Hurricane - Kyuss
Someone went through and put one of those little white stickers on every single item.
That’s dedication!
Another thing I noticed recently was the high prices on my old CD collection most are over 20 bucks which was a bit back then. No wonder record cos could pay millions to bands, sadly it's now gone to the other extreme where music is almost free and bands get nothing. A balance in the middle would have been nice. I will never understand how the likes of CZcams could ever legally put up bands music for free, or how did that ever happen.
No wonder the new Floyd Dark Side of the Moon box set and Blondie Super Deluxe boxes are upwards of $350-700!! Then again those aren't "mainstream" releases
they are intended these days for serious collectors or superfans mainly. This wasn't a trend back in the 80s or 90s, though there were super deluxe sets sometimes
like the Beatles vinyl box set etc. and MFSL releases. But it's harder than ever for record co.'s to make $, and also for bands to make $. It's a nightmare, but especially
for tiny indie bands or artists.

Cool store, but those used cd prices are ridiculous.
Based on what? They ranged from $2.98 to $9.98. Seemed very reasonable to me. On top of that it’s buy 3 get 2 free.
@@BrendonSnyder
I see the same stuff for much cheaper when I'm shopping for cds. Having said that.. buy 3 get 2 free isn't too shabby.
В России нет таких великолепных музыкальных магазинов. Мне горько, от этого... 😔
Nice video, but you know that you can find a vast majority of those cd’s for a dollar or less at thrift stores.
I don’t like thrift stores. I enjoy the experience of a record store with the vibe and fun of talking music with other like minded music fans. For me it’s an experience. Plus thrift stores don’t have this variety and depth of titles nor the imports and rarities. If you want the biggest selling and most common albums then thrift stores are great. But my collection is over 11,000 CDs so I’m way past picking up major titles. I’m looking for the rarities and hard to find items. But whatever works for you is cool. As long as you’re finding new music that’s cool! 👍
@@BrendonSnyder Yeah I hear you.I also have a very large cd collection (mostly jazz)and I mostly buy online for rare stuff. But since you were in part showing some really easy rock stuff to find that were in my opinion way to expensive at the record store that’s why I made that comment. For sure the record store ambiance and availability is always fun to experience and I do it myself many times a year since the last 50 years of record collecting.Continue to share your cool videos I am a fairly recent subscriber and I enjoy them very much.
Wow, Gilbert, your thrift stores must be a lot different than mine, all I see in mine are around thirty to fourth CDs, that include only mainstream artists, and are usually in mediocre condition! So really, no music at all in these stores, essentially! You are lucky!
Wow... Just WOW!!! What the f is with all the digipacks?🤮
... and I couldn't believe how beat up the CD jewel cases were. What the hell do people do with them?
