Great video, never really worked with Sketchup as we use a cad program but the one thing that’s missing with ours is the ability to create a quick cutting list like this. Great time saver and very impressed by the function of naming and sorting pets via materials. I would be interested in knowing how well this would work with a CAD drawing imported from a 3rd party software. Never know you may well convert me to a sketch up user. Keep up the great work.

Nic Harvey yeah this could be a game changer . A lot of this sort of stuff though, it works best when you take the time to set up the process. The reality for many of us is we carry on with the manual entry processes because we never quite get around to setting up a better system fully. Also often the better system turns out to be a bit limited or rigid.

Hi Alastair, great video. I've been using this extension for a few weeks now and on the whole I think it's great. It can get a bit confusing when using a grained material. Also I do think the 'cutting parameters' option (for scribing) would be better on the part rather than the sheet material as having to create another material sort of mucks up the sheet optimisation. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Scott Dimelow yeah that was the only one available for a few years, if we’re talking about the same one - it wasn’t terrible but an ugly interface compared to this one and it relies on tagging component names with material words rather than using fills which is more elegant and easier to change

Not sure if i'm missing something, but I am designing some outdoor steps from chunky 150mm x 150mm treated timber. Using the sectional timber setting you can't seem to be able to define a length, as in the size the timber comes in e.g. 3.6m. You can only define the cross section, is that correct? What i have done as a work around is use the sheet goods settings and dimension the thickness as 150mm and panel size and 3600mm x 150mm. Would like to do this properly though!

Great tip on the plugin. Noticed that when you create an object that’s the same size and snapping to an existing object, and you just want to specify the width (like the plinth) you don’t need to type in both measurements. If you have already snapped to one measurement, then just type “comma second dimension” like this - ,18
In your example, you wanted to draw an item that was 582,18 and sketch up had already snapped to the 582 measurement, so just type in the measurement you want, by using a comma which says to sketch up “keep the dimension as calculated” and then just use the dimension I typed after the comma
It works the other way to, so if your second measurement had snapped, then you would just put your first measurement in, then a comma then nothing.
Prob not explaining it very well but saves a bit of time

Michael Crosby it doesn’t come with any extra in built CutList function! I use a paid extension called cabinetsense. That gives you a library of lots of editable cabinets, and more advanced cutlisting functions but it all relies on an additional program called CutList plus for that which is also paid so it gets expensive.
