    it is a must!!! ; .-)) keep the model in order. With hundreds of groups and components, it becomes uncomfortable. I think it is very important that you should learn this from the beginning in sketchup. If the model is more complex it is no longer controllable.
    Continue so I like your videos very much.

    I am new to Sketch up , your videos are a great help .. can I just ask if there is anyway to resize or type in a new dimension after to have started work on a model ? I know you can use the stretch tool but that add and tacks away , I will just to select an object and say 2m x 60mm ?

      Not sure if you can type lengths and widths, but you can adjust distances with the scale tool like this - czcams.com/video/Ts8cTD1lmv0/video.html - Alternatively, you can re-scale your model using the tape measure tool - czcams.com/video/YRC1gg4tWx8/video.html - does that help at all?

Will look further into your list of tutorials but, I would like to see one that shows how to transform a 3d model into 2d drawings, material lists and cut sheets.If you don't already have one like that, you might want to consider doing one.

      I am using the free version of 2017.
      I am a retired Industrial designer who started in ACAD, Cadkey and Solid works and eventually began using Pro-Engineer. I am so impressed with the capabilities of SU and the methodology of your tutorials.
      I have only been using SU for about 4 days and am learning so much about it in such a short time. Being on a fixed income, I certainly appreciate all of the free plugins and add-ons (though I’ve only added two I can appreciate the library or warehouse of possibilities.
      I look forward to learning more from your videos and improving my skills with SU. I think it is wonderful that you keep the communication network open with those who follow you. It shows that you care about improving through hearing the views of those who follow you. Regarding those with the negative comments remember to take them with a grain of salt. When and if I feel that you have gone over something too quickly I simply back-up the video and replay it. Works fine for me.
      Anyway, your time is valuable! Take care and again, THANK YOU!!

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 6 lety

      Ok cool - that gives me a bit more background - with the Free version of SketchUp, you're a little more limited with your drawings, since a lot of the printing functionality is more included in the Pro version, but honestly, I'd say it's probably not worth the investment based on a fixed income - you may find this video helpful for some of what you're trying to do - czcams.com/video/93iaw5BjOKo/video.html - Thanks very much and I'm glad you're finding what I'm doing useful!

    I am learning a ton but if this is for woodworkers I assume that this is being modeled in sketchup and then a set of plans with measurements are needed in the shop. How do you get it to show measurements? I have not seen that on any of these woodworking tutorials.

    You may address this in a later video, but what would be the process to separate the "follow me"d trim piece into individual boards to put into a cutting layout?

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 6 lety +1

      Hmmm...at the moment, you'd probably have to create some kind of plane at the angles and intersect with it to separate out the different pieces (probably using the move tool in copy mode). You wouldn't be able to do a piece at a time because you'd need to extrude the whole thing to get the corners right. Unfortunately, probably a lot of manual work involved...

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  Před 5 lety

      Usually if it's not working, its a sequencing issue - To double check - you activate the move tool, turn on copy mode by tapping the "control" key, set your base point by clicking, then set your copy by clicking again. At this point, you should just type in "*3" or whatever your value is and hit enter. If you do anything else - click anywhere else, activate another tool, etc at this point, it won't work. It only works right after you set your first copy before you do anything else. Did this help?

    Great video! I am struggling with zooming to the bottom of the bookshelf, using the rectangular tool and stretching it up to the top corner. If I zoom out I can do it, but if I want to be precise I can only do what is shown in the screen. Is there a way to use the rectangular tool and the Pan function or something? I want to keep the same zoom size while using the rectangular tool and be able to pan the screen,,, Thank you

      Hi Rob - you're not dividing your shelves, as much as you're creating a copy with the move tool, then using the tool to create more copies between your original and your new copy. Maybe start with a simple video like this one - czcams.com/video/Bl95U1KxflI/video.html - and see if you can get started this way. Thanks!
