Cars is a bad trilogy in my opinion but I'd only be nervous about the 2nd film the others only kind of hurt to see
Get ready. This is Pixar’s most underrated movie by far.
your spark isn’t your purpose, it’s simply the thing that makes you want to experience life and that’s why 22 didn’t check that last box until she actually lived in joe’s body. 22’s perception of life on earth was so negative that nothing any of her mentors could tell or show her made her change her mind. she had to actually experience living and the little nuances of life to know that it was something she wanted to do! joe spent his entire life working toward a goal that he thought would fulfill him and when it didn’t, he reevaluated his life through 22’s eyes and it made him appreciate all of the “regular old living” he had done but ignored in his tunnel-vision pursuit of what he thought success/happiness was. so when he gets the second chance at the end of the movie, he’s approaching it with the mindset of living every minute and appreciating every he has rather than focusing on what he doesn’t :)

Neat little thing you could miss:
When Joe shows 22 his memories, there's one where he's sitting in a diner with a piece of pie, looking dejected, making you think it's a sad memory.
But when Joe's at the piano and we see that montage of memories, we see the diner scene again, and we find out it was actually a happy memory, despite not starting out ao great.
It's like the hockey memory in Inside Out. It started off sad, but because of her friends and the team, it turned happy.

I love that anecdotal story Dorothy was talking about with the ocean. She essentially meant that we should stop worrying about becoming something greater or being ambitious and start living here and now. We're already in the 'ocean'. We just need to live in it and enjoy the little things.
When joe was looking back at his life and say that he gonna spend every minute of it
This movie really explains about life and theirs dreams , life is beautiful so you got to make some good memories and enjoy every single day of it and believe in your dream , and make it a good one

The spark is not an especific thing, its the feeling of eating a pecan pie, of watching fireworks, of spending a quiet moment with someone you love. Its not making music, its living the *joy* of making music. The spark are the little things in life that make it all worth it, the things that make living a rich expirience, those that you never notice but you wouldnt trade anything for.
In my opinion, the lesson for Joe is to enjoy living and don't throw your life away in pursuit of a goal. He's so obsessed with being a famous musician that he didn't realise that he was neglecting his life and that others looked up to him (such as 22 and the girl from music class)

I love this movie. Most movies focus on following dreams and that its your purpose in life. That's good too, but growing up, it made me feel bad for not really having one. I felt this pressure that I NEED to have a dream or else my life is meaningless. This movie will teach kids to have dreams or to not, just do whatever makes you happy in the moment, and it's okay that way.
His spark was just living every moment of life
Fundamentally, the spark isn’t a specific thing. It’s just when you’re ready to start living. No one has a defined purpose. Our only “purpose” is to live. Every little moment we should savor and enjoy and embrace. The goals we give ourself aren’t purposes, they’re goals. Basically, like the fish, we’re all looking for these great purposes/the ocean, when we’ve had it all along.
This movie deserves the Best animated Feature win

Dude I cried when I saw this movie. It actually helped my with life in rn general in a small but meaningful way.
But she wont find her purpose, the movie implied that the purpose is not the end goal of life, the life itself and how you live it is the end goal of life. You concentrate so much on your purpose - it takes you out of reality, make you isolated and eventually youll become a lost soul. Because after youll achieve your "purpose", you wouldnt know what to do after it, just like he was like "what now?". Enjoy the journey in whatever you pursue and take and live EVERY moment to feel fullfilled. Its hard as hell, sadly.
From my point of view the "spark" is not the purpose, is not the thing you're passionate about your whole life, it's the curiosity and the will to Live, to experience life as a whole❤⭐
It doesn't matter what Joe's spark was. Keep in mind he got his spark a long time ago, before he was born. He didn't get it during the movie. According to him, it was playing the piano, but remember, the spark is not your purpose. The spark is what makes you realize that life is worth living. For some people it's a specific hobby or passion, but it doesn't have to be. However, 22 didn't have a passion, but she realized that life was worth living just for the little things that she enjoyed like eating pizza or walking.
The message of the movie is that many people are obsessed over finding their purpose or achieving their dreams in order to feel fulfilled and happy. They are looking for the ocean. They don't realize that the purpose of life is to live it. They forget to enjoy every moment of their life and to be happy with what they already have. They don't realize that they are already in the ocean.
If you haven't watch Inside out. I'll say it's almost kinda of similar to this ( I don't know) but still :)
Yeah the animation of the soil and the emotion is so similar I recommend it also
Did you know that there’s a theory that the soul 22 is Riley from inside out... Notice how everyone has emotions that look the same (all the mom and dad emotions look alike) but Riley’s are different because 22 was in Joe’s body... and also because the director in both movies is the same and Inside Out starts with Riley’s birth opening her eye

that's just it. the "spark" is just when a soul is ready to live. Joe was confusing it with a purpose and that's what I think the movie's message is all about. it's great to have passions but when we get so caught up in our passions that we forget to actually *live* then that can be a bad thing. the reason 22's pass filled in is because she was only able to develop that desire to live when she actually saw what life was like on Earth in Joe's body.
oh and another little tidbit that I'm not sure you got: the reason Connie kept saying she wanted to quit trombone even though she was great at it is because she was getting teased in school. it was something she loved and excelled at but sometimes in life, we let others dictate our path because we want to fit in. as a teacher, I see that all the time and I'm glad they touched on that.

Did you realized that the title of the movie only appeared in the end when he actually started to live his life? Amazing detail.
Live your life. Just savour it. It's not your career, status or anything that you will leave behind when your time is up. It is your experience. The barbar scene where the barbar says that he originally wanted to be a veterinarian but choose barbar school and says he is happy as a clam and the fish story by Dorothea. Those two scenes basically described the theme of the movie. Most people spend their lives trying to find things that will "make them happy." They had the capacity to be happy all that time, but they didn't realize it, like Joe realized after playing with Dorothea's quartet.The look on his face said it all. You did not fail in life if your plan didn't work out and life is a gift that you should enjoy now, not when you think you accomplished something.
I love this movie. The message on life has really effected me in most ways other shows or movies hasn’t. I think this is my favorite Pixar movie.
Now that's a PIXAR movie. Me and my little brother loved this movie! Big fan of Jamie Foxx too ❤

My god. It says something about the quality of this movie that I’m reconsidering whether Candace Against the Universe deserves Best Animated Feature.
That... that's a joke right, Wolfwalkers is _the_ best animated movie of 2020 with this one a close second

Purpose is what you are striving to do that makes life worth living,
In Joe's case his purpose is to help people find what they love and be a mentor, just like how he did with 22
Atleast this is my own observation, so I may be wrong
I took it to mean that we don’t have any one set purpose that we’re born with. We get to choose our purpose and it might change throughout our lives. But our spark is what matters. Your spark is your passion for life.
A spark isn't your reason to live.
It's the reason you WANT to live.
I honestly would've liked to see if the ending of Soul turned out very different. There was a storyboard with an ending that was scrapped by the director saying it didn't "have the emotional impact" as he thought before settling with the final cut of Joe returning to Earth and enjoying life.
The scrapped ending would've then cut back to him on Earth perhaps at his home or classroom getting a knock on his door from a mother with a young girl complaining she "doesn't like piano." Joe recognizes that voice from somewhere and opens the door to reveal this girl who is none other than 22! That reunion would've been something to me.
I'm surprised you never cried but hey you never have to thank you for even being vulnerable in a video in general I want so many things in life that I feel ill never obtain like I wanna make music but never feel I'd be good enough for anyone to listen to me but what I'm most afraid of is not being there for the people who I care about and even others that don't I still wish them the best and that they grow as a person but they arent my main focus all I want to do is be remembered for being a very kind and caring person I may have been a trash person in the past but know that can eat me up even to this day every now and again but I know people I cared for that are no longer with me would want me to live life as best as it can be good or bad day know im rooting for you all in life truly

I love soul even tho I didn’t see it bc I don’t have Disney plus but anyway soul shows that life has greater things then just your meaning of life. Not forgetting the joys of life and enjoying them til the day you die and it shows not waist it all but spend every minute of it to the fullest

the movie’s not about what joe’s spark was, the message is that your spark isn’t your purpose, the only purpose is to live. joe spent too much of his life obsessing over what he thought his spark was, to the point where he forgot to slow down and enjoy all the little things

I mean, if she worked at the shop to pay the bills while her husband sought after music I would feel frustrated too. Can't feed a family dreams and pay the bills with passions all the time. Personally I wasn’t totally all for Soul. I’m not trying to hate on it, cause I still liked it. But I kinda felt they put too much effort into the message of the movie, also yeah they didn’t seem to specify what his spark was, and this is less important but my sis and I were hoping to see 22 be born. The zone, the humor, the animation, and the story despite its quirks were still all great. This was nominated at the KCA for best animated movie and I’m like “Will kids have understood half of the meaning in that😅?”. I’ll wait until you’re ready to see Trolls and TWT.
