      Awesome tip! I might try that next time. I think my microset is bad. Used it on one side of my last build with the same result. Other side I forgot to put it on and had no problem with the decals. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for watching my video!

    Just found this channel and subscribed. Can't wait for life to calm down and get back to trying my hand at modeling again. Seeing this beautiful red 442 reminds me of the rolling shell 1970 442 1:1 scale in the garage that has been screaming for my time, but models will be a great way to get back into things. Life can get really messy and modeling is a great way to shave off some stress!
    The biggest take im hearing in comments is to apply decals After a single coat of clear. This makes sense now that im seeing work be done and your struggles. In the end that is one fine paint job to be proud of!
    Take care everyone and enjoy life to the best of your ability!

      Thank you for tuning in! This hobby can definitely be a great way to forget about life for a minute. When I sit at the bench and put all my focus into what I’m doing it’s like all the weight off my shoulders. That is until the kids interrupt me 🤣. Also as a former mechanic with back issues it’s a great way to fill that need to build stuff! You’ll love it if you get back into it.

    I think it looks great. As far as applying the decals, maybe try hitting it with a clear coat prior to laying decals then lay a final clear coat after. I've had pretty good luck with that method.

      Yep solid advice. With enamels and their gloss hard shell properties you can get away with applying over the paint if using hardener, but I always recommend decals after 1 clear layer then finish. Mico mark makes a great wet sand set 3 to12k sanding cloths which is great for removing all the dust devils and leaving a smooth finish to polish up and re-clear if needed.

    Turned out nice. You can get that dust out of the clear coat using 3000 then working up to 12000 if you have the time. 12k will be the ideal spot then you just use some car polishing compound either manually or with a dremmel polish pad on a slow speed. just mind the coats of clear so you don't go down into the paint. I only use Lacquers, Urethanes and enamels of car bodies and I place the decals on after the 1st coat of clear which is easier to handle than over paint. Hope this helps, Car came out looking great regardless and we all suffer the dust demons lol.

If I get a paint job with only a couple dust spots I call that a successful journey!🤣 I thought about sanding but honestly I spent so long on the car I kind of just wanted to get it done and move on. Thanks for checking it out and I hope you’re enjoying the channel.

      @@CBModelworks Did you buff the paint before you applied the decals? I've had the best results from Tamiya paints and decal applications. The paint is porous and needs buffed. I have buffed even without clear coats on the paint and had the best gloss. The car looks good. I'm going to pick up one of those kits too. I have over 500 cars. 350 at least of issues I bought clear back from 1964 to about 1976. Pactra paint was the best back then. Lol. Keep building. I'm retired and got back into it. I started fixing my old issues and then started buying them again. The price of them are outrageous today. I paid between $1.48 to about $2.99 on those 350 original kits back then.

I just can't bring myself to decant a spray can lol. What size tip were you using in the airbrush? Perhaps that was part of my issues. I've been doing mostly armor for a decade and prefer the smallest tips for camo

    • @CBModelworks
      @CBModelworks  Před rokem +1

      I don’t know what was up with the decals but I’ve never had them stick like that. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Decanting, in my opinion, give you better control over the paint and doesn’t waste as much with over spray. You can definitely get great results spraying directly from the can though. It’s kind of a what works best for you situation. I use an Iwata Neo from Hobby Lobby. I believe it comes with .30 needle. It’s a good general purpose airbrush.

      @@CBModelworks I'm just glad I'm not the only one that had issues with them! I'm using a couple different Master's airbrushes that I've used for many years, painting shirts, models and graphics on motorcycles. But I moved and I'm using a little pancake compressor instead of a big one, maybe I'm just not getting enough air volume from thinner lines. IDK. I know there are advantages to decanting, ready to spray, nice variety of colors, not having to get all kinds of different reducers etc. Maybe one day I'll give it a try.

      I suppose it could help if you have a separate hobby room where you can keep it vacuumed etc. In my situation I don’t think it would work. I’m in a garage full of stuff and just have a little area for model building. I also have to open the garage door for ventilation when I spray so that stirs up a bunch of dust as well.
