The vocal group The Hi-Lo's from the 1950s are one of Accent's biggest inspirations, so we were thrilled to be asked to perform a special medley of their arrangements "The Birth of the Blues" and "You and the Night and the Music." This performance from December 2018 was part of a spectacular evening at the Royal Albert Hall with Guy Barker's Big Band and many other fantastic musicians.
Originally performed by The Hi-Lo's (vocal arr. Gene Puerling)
Transcription & adaptation by Guy Barker & Alan Prosser
Audio mix/master & video edit by Andrew Kesler
Video footage courtesy of Alexandra Skorenko & Susanna Rose
Special thanks to Guy Barker, Max Hunter and the Royal Albert Hall

Just found out about this group, today !!! Never heard such perfect harmonies, ever - even though I've been a fan of the Hi-Lo's and other groups of similar nature. Fantastic - can't praise them enough - they're simply brilliant.
Det blir fan inte BÄTTRE än så här !!!
Bravo! Love it!! A masterful tribute to Gene and the Hi-Lo's by these incredible vocalists.
Thank you for keeping the music of The Hi-Lo’s LIVE!
Sounds awesome!
Accent has a great jazz sound! They are @ strong group. The best harmonies
The best jazz vocal group
Fantastic!!!! The harmonies are so pure that it's difficult to pick out the middle parts.
Wow! Never thought I'd hear such the excellent sound of the Hi-Lo's again. Awesome.
We'll keep it alive as long as we can :)
Accent and Big Band, you’re awsome!
Perfect like in multitrack recording, but with the added live vibe, the pep in their step: enthralling!
Garsh, this was fun

Come to switzerland !
Talk to some event promoters or venues and help us get there!
You are amazing. When will they perform in Brazil?
Help find a promoter who will bring us!
When are these guys going to come to Fort Myers, Florida?
Please contact your local venues and event promoters and demand that they bring us! We are easily reachable and have other tour dates lined up on the east coast next year. Help us make it happen!
If paused at, say, 2:40, can someone 'in the know' please apply names, eg. L to R, to the Accent group members. I have learned from Accent's own web page the names of participants, and which voice level each sings, but not the Who's Which. TIA.
Sure! Left to right:
Danny Fong, tenor 3 (Canada)
Simon Åkesson, tenor 2 (Sweden)
Jean-Baptiste Craipeau, tenor 1 (France)
Andrew Kesler, tenor 4 (Canada)
James Rose, baritone (England)
Evan Sanders, bass (USA)
@@AccentVocal Many thanks.
After I'd posted the question to YT, I found the superb video of your group performing with Arturo Sandoval, and worked out from facial expressions and body language, then comparing faces with your own web page photo, which member was singing which part!
I'm curious how did you guys split up the parts?
Tenor 1 - Simon
Tenor 2 - Danny
Tenor 3 - JB & Andrew
Bari - Evan & James
James and I were soft doubles to JB and Evan who acted as leadermen.
Andrew Kesler Yeah I knew Simon was on lead he usually takes the lead stuff on Hi-Lo’s charts you guys do... I could also hear Danny was T2 but yeah I wasn’t sure if J.B. was doubled on T2 at points or just doing more of the T3 stuff...
😅
Great arrangement, playing, awesome singing!! Presentation von Accent is sucks
Thanks! Not sure what the second half of your comment means but we appreciate the first half :)
Don't care how good they sound .....get a stinkin haircut. Geeeeeeeeeeeeeez
