  • In this video I show how I installed a basement laundry/utility sink pump to replace the original pump installed in a previous video. That pump was very problematic and had a lot of drawbacks compared to the one I installed to replace it.

    I'm a disabled lady on a budget without a dad to teach me stuff. I'm going to try and replace our ejector pump myself and this was so helpful. Thank you so much for this video.

    I saw this just in time. I was about to install the same pump you threw out for my basement kitchen sink. I had heard different opinions on it but the main thing was that it was loud. I just ordered the new basin/pump system…now I gotta go return all the 1 1/4 pipe and fittings and replace with 1 1/2. I guess it’s worth the extra few bucks to do it right.

    I’m sorry to ask but I don’t quite understand why do you need some kind of vent or aav why can’t it just be left open?

      Also roughly how loud is this can you talk at normal volume and be heard?

    Its been a few months now. Hows the pump holding up? Any issues?

      Extremely satisfied, no issues yet. This was definitely worth the upgrade.

      @@briancnc Can you give me an idea of how loud it is? Thanks very much!

    • @briancnc
      @briancnc  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @monday9026 not very loud at all. Quieter than the pump I had before as it's housed in the pump enclosure. If you have any reservations you could just buy it and plug it in see how it works for your space, return it if it's too loud.

    2:09, copper air vent, didn't know you could even use that, thought it had to be cast Iron, or PVC.

      I installed a laundry pump up system and didn't connect to venting because it doesn't need it, the only time venting is really needed is for sewage, everything else is code for extra expense

    Great video thank you. Who didn't recommend AAV?
    Also who said the discharge pipe should have been 2 inch?

    • @briancnc
      @briancnc  Před 9 měsíci +3

      If you mean the drainage pipe, per code it should have been 2" which I changed it to, as the drainage load was exceeding the limit for that branch. AAV isn't recommended by the manufacturer, rather they expect you to vent to the exterior atmosphere, not sure why but I followed their recommendations as I've seen in another application where an AAV still allowed for some smell to come out

    I have the same reverse osmosis system. I have the same under sink sump pump kit as the one you have. Anyways.... i bought an air admittance valve and i plan to install this kit set up in my basement for my utility sink and washer soon. I dont have a pvc vent pipe running thru the ceiling. Is there any way at all i Can use just an air admittance valve and not run pvc vent up the basement ceiling thru the first and second floors to roof? Thanks

    • @briancnc
      @briancnc  Před 6 měsíci

      I asked the company and they said no. I will probably work just fine but there may be drawbacks, like the valve slamming closed on the motor, not sure what that causes long term but they don't advise it. I've certainly seen them done that way though just didn't want to risk having problems. Try to locate an existing vent stack you could tie into, you should be able to find one somewhere at least in your first floor and get to it from your basement stack like I did.

    I watched the original install and I'm a bit confused with the redo in this video. What size pipe are you NOW using for the discharge assembly?

    • @briancnc
      @briancnc  Před 5 měsíci +1

      My discharge and vent (vertical pipes) are 1-1/2 sch 40 PVC pipe. I eventually tie into a main discharge line that's a 2" PVC, the one in the horizontal orientation.

  • @greenmarine5
    @greenmarine5 Před 3 měsíci

    you should drill a whole in the PVC pipe inside the housing so the pump doesn't get vapor locked. Why the hell would you have a check valve after the trap that makes no sense on a sealed system

    • @briancnc
      @briancnc  Před 3 měsíci

      The check valve is to prevent backflow. Albeit given the size of the holding tank and my vertical stack is pretty short I reckon if you had enough lift to get over the back flow could cause the pump to short cycle in the right conditions.

    • @briancnc

      Also on the air lock, I haven't had that issue yet but will keep an eye on it.
