    You don't have to downplay your words by saying maybe you're biased, or maybe you're this or that. You're speaking nothing but facts! This movie never had a blu ray release and took 25 years to upgrade from the dvd release, and everyone was waiting for ages for this movie to come out in at least a blu ray release. But instead, we got something better and it got released in 4K UHD! So basically, it went from having a standard dvd release to upgrading all the way to 4K UHD in 25 years, and people are still complaining for some minor DNR that was made. It's like they want to wait another 25 years to get the transfer they wish they had, and that would make it 50 years after the dvd release!! There is nothing biased or fan-boyish by being grateful for something we never had and possibly thought of never getting. But we did, and it's faaar better than its previous releases, and that's the point that matters. If it's an upgrade, if it's watchable, if it's better than what was available before, then there's nothing to complain about.
    Yes, technical "flaws" SHOULD be pointed out when reviewing all these releases, but they shouldn't be a burden for reviewers making these releases discouraging for fans of the movie to buy the movie, just because they have a very opinionated review on them. If it's that bad, everyone will notice it. And it's not like these studios that produce these transfers are going to release them every once in a while, just because some reviewers on youtube are nitpicking the shit out of them. Until the point where it's frustrating for fans who want to upgrade, but then have second thoughts. I just got the 4K UHD and it's fine and watchable and rewatchable! It doesn't have to be the best all the time. So buy with confidence.

    I get where you're coming from, but I'm not going to be "grateful" to a multi-billion dollar company for selling me a product. I realize there are some angry people out there taking it way too far, but of the videos you quoted that I've watched, they all seemed pretty reasonable to me. Yeah, they pointed out the things they didn't like or they thought could have been done better, but they weren't trashing James Cameron or even saying you shouldn't buy it. They're reviewing a product, talking about the pros and cons is kind of the point. And if the quality of it wasn't important, everyone would still just be watching the DVD and wouldn't even care at all that it was being re-released in 4K. And you're right, a lot of people don't care, and won't even be getting the 4K, but many of those who have invested in the required equipment and are spending money on the most expensive version of a product that they may actually already own in another format, are only spending all that money because having a great looking picture is something they value. On top of this, these particular releases are using new technology that hasn't really been used before, and a lot of people understandably want to know what the results are before buying it sight unseen. From watching these reviews, I came away thinking that it sounds like a very promising technology, and there are only minor complaints about one of the three transfers that used it. What's so terrible about that? I simply don't understand what the issue is with people pointing out that they saw some issues that either bothered them, or that they think might bother some people who are coming to their channel specifically to see reviews for these products.

It annoys me when people rant and rave that don't even own them. They have just gone with the screenshots/stills etc from other CZcamsrs etc. If you own them and you're not happy with them then that is also fine as you didn't like them. • @ungraduatedmedia
      @ungraduatedmedia Před 16 dny

      @@CuriousEnthusiast956 I’m not against all film grain. I know it depends highly on the film stock used for those original films and even types of lenses.
      Example being taking a 16mm film and putting onto 4k. It’s going to enhance the grain structure even more since it’s on 16mm and we’ll see even more grain.
      When done right, I think a 4k scan of an older film can look amazing. But sometimes some DNR may not be a horrible thing. But it needs to be done right. From my understanding it depends on quite a bit of different factors.
      In some cases, if all that film grain is now “over-exposed” would that not show even more grain than what the director would have originally intended?
      Then maybe it could work in the reverse, like with Cameron who obviously didn’t want as much grain because he wanted a more “futuristic” look in his films but at the time couldn’t get that look because filming digitally didn’t exist back then.
      Now - he’s able to create the film as he originally intended.

Then waiting to long to do the 4k allows the Negative to degrade more.Lucky in 1997 George Lucas noticed how badly the star wars Negative had become and we could have lost it if it hadn't been restored the Trilogy. I have been watching the dvd to Blu-ray to 4k and you will notice that many of a certain age are seeing the Digital Manipulation instantly because they have seen the analog version most of their lives and to suddenly see it with extreme DNR on TVs that show everything .I can understand the shock .I also understand what they needed to do to fix the Negative issues that time creates.I already have the Aliens 4k and it required adjustments in my 4k player to get the proper visual settings and it worked not perfect but very Watchable. They're using a sledgehammer when they should be using a paintbrush. I feel like there's very little to no quality control. Of course it's going to look better than the dvd or blu-ray, it's 4k. Watch it again, then watch it again and you'll start to notice things that you *should* be complaining about.

That film, on both Blu-Ray & Digital, has a lot of film scratches all over it. very noticeable. If the original negative is that damaged & it takes AI to fix it, I would except that. but I 100% agree with you that studios take AI & DNR to an 11. & sometimes its way too much lol. Terminator 2 gets a lot of hate but I think that transfer looks better than True Lies. T2 does look digitally clean but I don't think it looks waxy. I can see pores and wrinkles on close up shots and I can also see faint traces of grain. To my eyes its a pleasing image. T2 on 4K is the best image over any other format. At least I think so.

      Apart from 2 or 3 shots in True Lies where people do look a little smooth, it looks amazing, but no 4k looks perfect all the way through - there's usually a few shots that look blurry or soft or bad for various reasons due to the way it was filmed so I think people are histrionically overreacting way too much.

They all seem to use the exact same buzzwords when describing certain issues they all seem to share with a select few releases that you'll almost always find in a lot of their "worst 4K blu-rays" rankings. You see them go ballistic if a movie shot on film has next to no grain on the 4K master due to heavy DNR, stating that it gives the overall image a "waxy" feel where a lot of the characters look like models, but I've watched some of the examples they've applied that buzzword to and they all look pretty great in my eyes. The Empire Strikes Back 4K blu-ray in particular has very little if any grain and is one of the best looking films in the format that I've seen in the three years I've been watching 4K movies for. I'm all for filmmakers making revisions to their work if they feel there's still room for improvement as long as those revisions feel necessary. I personally take issue with certain blu-ray remasters of older movies shot on film because in many cases, the level of grain can be distracting, especially in the case of Aliens where I remember certain darker scenes in the original blu-ray release being a flickery mess due to how much of the grain was left intact. What's been done with this new release isn't like with the original blu-ray of Predator where every character looks like they've had too much makeup applied. The A.I. technique used was a way of scrubbing the distracting flickering of the grain without losing any of the detail present in the frames of the film, and based on what I've seen in reviews and screenshots, I think they did an amazing job.
