- A wedding in Morocco is like a fairytale out of "1001 Nights.” Brides become princesses. The guest list has to be long; the clothing, sumptuously stylish; the jewelry, the finest; and the food, tip-top.
It takes months to plan a Moroccan wedding. That’s how it was for Yousra and Othman as well. The couple live in France, but they got married in Yousra’s Moroccan hometown, Fez. They hired Negaffa Salwa to plan the event, but of course the parents also get a say in shaping their children’s big day. After all, the wedding is all about image within the family and among friends. Together, they search for a venue. The local markets, or souks are combed for the finest oud, incense and musk for the henna party, which is usually held on the eve of the wedding.
Yousra and Othman are also opening their nuptials with the traditional celebration, one featuring all the bells and whistles. The bridegroom and his family will enter with great fanfare. Gifts will be displayed and the bride will appear in different outfits. All eyes will be on Yousra when she is carried into the venue on traditional wooden palanquin known as an Amaria.
But the high point of the evening is when the bride enters in a traditional fassia dress. Wearing the heavy, sumptuous brocade and enormous crown will be no mean feat for the petite Yousra. The trick is to smile and make it all look easy. Yousra knows she’ll be on camera non-stop and loads of photographs and videos will be posted on social media. Beyond being unforgettable for the young couple and their guests, the fairytale wedding enhances their families’ status.

This is the first exotic wedding where the couple smiled happily. Stunning bride and beautiful ceremony!
Exotic? As word is a little too far ; you can just mention traditional
not true, we are always so happy on our wedding days
Exotic wedding? What do you mean by that? This is a traditional Moroccan wedding with Fassi and Rbati customs
LOL at "exotic"
Your insinuation is clear, and your not so subtle bigotry to imply that traditional wedding that isn't western centric has to where the couple are not smiling aka forced!
and yet somehow almost all of them stay married for life, while your wonderful western liberal brides and grooms have a 50% divorce rate
Morocco is a prestigious country

The Moroccan wedding is wonderful, and Morocco is an ancient and historical country 🇲🇦❤️
Most Moroccan weedings are like this, Moroccans over spend during weedings they consider it a really important day and memory and they ensure that everything goes well beyond standards
That day shouldn't be forgotten
Awesome job DW, Thanks
I enjoyed watching it 🎉❤ I am Bahraini and in love with all Moroccan traditions 😍😍😍
Im algerien and caftan always will be moroccan and not somethin else🇩🇿
Respect to you for being honest ❤
The Caftan is middle eastern mate, it came from the middle east and was brought by the Abbasids and popularised by the Ottomans in North Africa.
The Moroccan Arab dynasty called the Saadi dynasty invented their own version of the Caftan called the Takchita in Fez, the Algerian Kouloughlis, Andalusians and Arabs in Algiers created their own version of the Caftan called the Karakou
In short the Caftan has no native origins in North Africa what many North African Arabs claim, the only clothing that has native origins are some of the traditional Amazigh/Berber clothing(i say some because the Riffian "lebsa Rifia"is also not of native origins)
@@Revitalization4241 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is just a middle class wedding who can afford basics but if you will have a chance to see a traditional luxurious rich class wedding you will probably be in one of the 1001 nights and you will be lucky to be invited ,the Moroccan wedding is magical magnificent and is the most complicated in the world it can last one week and in the menu or buffet ( filled lamb (Mechoui )- seafood Pastilla -Caviar-bluefin tuna-Lobster- coffin bay king oysters-baby Eels -royal prawns Salad Moroccan and french patisserie and the list is long and i am getting hungry 😂 i am proud to be Moroccan 🇲🇦 from Berlin Germany 🇩🇪
I don't know about that ,the high upper class morrocan weddings are so westernized for my taste and they don't have the intimacy, the ambiance, and the spontaneity a normal traditional wedding has...they look luxurious sure, but they are boring and people are just sitting cause they are tooo posh and pretentious to dance and have fun spontaneously 😂😂
There is a lot to say about weddings in Morocco. behind the scenes and preparations are as interesting as the celebration! successful documentary.
Beautiful traditional Morocco weddings.. So many similarities in marriages across the world!! Great documentary by DW

This is my Morocco i love ❤
Just magical 😍😍😍😍 i love moroccan weddings uts like a chapter from the book one thousand nights and one
I hope their life is a blessing for each other, may Allah keep them in his protection ❤
I think one of the things that characterises us morrocans is although we are very open on other cultures and the modern world with all its bagage, we maintain very special deep bond to our traditions (food, celebrations, traditional clothing, architecture, even our mournings and funerals are different from other islamic countries (they Wear black we wear white for example)) weddings are no exceptions , for example although we have a very good and famous modern music scene, the majority of the music we play in weddings is ancient music learned and transmitted verbally from generation to generation (some of this songs and rythmes go back to the 12th century!!!), and this way it never fades away...so yeah welcome to morroco the land of wonders , a land filled with culture in every corner, a land that cherishes its tradition but is not afraid to be open on other cultures 🇲🇦
Congratulation what a wedding 😮! Beautifully done ❤❤❤
May this beautiful and handsome couple have a very blessed and happy life together. 💖💖💖
This is how our weddings are but its a lot less than an American wedding! I wore seven dresses in one night each with different makeup. Two live bands and i couldnt sleep until 6 am. I was exhausted but married the love of my life!
A lot less...7 dresses 7 makeup sessions, two live bands ... that alone is extreme. Not criticising, but that is way more than a Western wedding. 😊
Thanks DW ❤🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
It was a magical night 👑 i was wearing the pink Caftan ... Moroccan traditions are the best
Good documentery
Thanks for watching.
Wow - that was amazing. Talk about a long day for everyone.
U mean two days, amazing but looks tiring I am Moroccan myself but not sure I want something this big it's too overwhelming I find it to be.
I bet it's the same in Uppsala
Cultures have different ways of handling wedding celebrations.. but in most traditional weddings if not all the main focus is on the bride.. indeed this Documentary shows us a truly magical Moroccan wedding I had never seen or known before. ☺
Beautiful traditions
Love my people❤️🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦
🎉wow morocco ❤❤
I almost got married to a Moroccan girl. I that time I had little understanding of the culture. I would have been overwhelmed. Later I became a Christian. Still appreciate the Moroccan traditions, and wonder what if.
What is what?
I almost got married to a Moroccan man.... He was too nice I got scared you know....
Im about to marry a Moroccan very non traditional man just like myself non traditional. We are eloping and keep our lives private making our own decisions . Our parents are not exactly in favor , not in a terrible extreme way..but they dont and cant understand and don't want us to be hasty... it is our life decision we are making without our families opinions and influences.
Only my mom knows, And only his parents know byt maybe his mom told others
We haven't seen each other in 5 years from pandemic and when we meet for the first time this year we will automatically marry and getting our legal documents in order now. It sounds crazy to everyone but this is how life has unfolded for us. Very nontraditional and private .
No wedding no traditions nothing lol just elopement.
I never actually met his family. We are distanced international . But yes also you have to be married to travel morocco as couple
Even more strange for his family to accept, they even forgot me from 5 years ago lol.
They just saw him 2 months ago thinking he single lol and now he marrying, to who??????? Lolol
My childhood dream wedding was in Morocco! Cool to see someone fulfill my wish!
What a spectacular and traditional modern wedding ceremony! Congratulations and may God be the center of your marriage. Love each other up to your last breath. God bless and best wishes to your journey!!!

Tradition is very romantic. Beautiful people and culture.
and you should see how amazingly they treat new mothers, they are treated like brides too. Looks like they missed out on the pre-wedding bridal hammam party :(
I don't even know these people, but I'm so happy for them!

Beautiful dresses even the older women looked beautiful. Lot of work tho I wouldn’t survive being up there I’ll go dizzy. Wish the young couple the best.

I am thankful to have such a beautiful culture ❤ Alhamdullilah !! L3rossa ghzala Mashallah
Morocco has a rich culture
What a spectacular wedding, enchanting to observe. Lovely culture. Must have cost them a fortune.
Not really, there are way expensive Moroccan weedings and absolutely there are less expensive ones than this one. This is average, most Moroccans have weeding like this today, and it cost around 5 to 8 thousand dollars .. Negaffa and her Caftans and Takshitas, The rented Villa or place, food and accessories, gold choices.... Plays a big role for the weeding cost
But this is average or some people would consider it slightly above the average because this bride actually bought some caftans and created some from scratch for herself
WOOOW
We have weddings like this in Central Asia too, visit Turkmenistan sometime
