Speed guns cane around 1995.
Waqar clocked 95.8 mph (154 kph) in the Oval Test 1996.
That was 5 years AFTER his absolute speed peak in 1991 and after stress fractures recovery.
He lost his pace too quickly courtesy injuries, full pace Waqar with that Banana swing both conventional and reverse was one of the scariest thing ever seen in ckt....an absolute legend of the game...
Was he better than Bumrah?
@@SaadQureshiOfficial it's not fair to compare players of different eras...Waqar was a beast in his era...now Bumrah carries the same legacy. Why wasting time to compare two of the greats of the game. Instead enjoy their craft as much as you can....
Waqar seems like around 147 km speed bowler if you swing at that speed you are extremely hard to Play.
@@SumitSinghdelhiwala absolutely, Dale Steyn also belonged to this category, where he could swing the ball like a banana at 150kph...thats why both Waqar and Steyn both had phenomenal strike rates...coz they took wickets rapidly to change the complexion of a game within a whisker....
Waqar pre injury was the Greatest fast bowler who ever walked the Earth.
Not as quick as Shoaib
@@shujahmohammed9173 did I say quick?
@@shujahmohammed9173Lol there were less speed guns back then. Batsman who played him from 1989-1991 said his avg speed was 150kph+
@@arslaanpasha3334 Shoaib used to bowl 158 often.
Marshall and Waqar were the genuine fastest bowlers
Waqar younis was the one who inspired millions of young fast bowlers.
I remember that everyone used to copy his bowling bowling action.
Absolutely legend he is❤
Very true. In our teens early nineties, we used to. Copy the Splendid Bowling action of the Great Fast Bowler Waqar Yunus
lol... no one did that .... who wanted to copy this medium pacers actions ????? only a chutiya
Man.. I used to love watching Waqar and Wasim bowl. Pure joy and such excitement
Growing up, Waqar was most exciting bowler for me. Lara was most exciting batsman to watch.
Waqar was absolutely lethal in his day. Complete legend and will never be forgotten.
Shaib action and waqar delivery throwing, big difference. Waqar was real fast bowler with finest bowling action majority of his victims r lbw and bowled out
Waqar along with Wasim was the best. Not even McGrath or the West Indian pacers inspired the awe and admiration for raw skill, speed and beauty that these 2 did. We in India, as I am sure millions across the world, would wait to see our batsmen play these 2 to see how good our vaunted batting lineup was.
Not even the West Indian pacers? There were FOUR of them, my friend. Roberts, Holding, Croft, Garner, Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh,Bishop, Patterson… and bowlers like Sylvester Clarke and Wayne Daniel couldn’t even be a regular part of the team.
This attack made West Indies rule the world for the best part of 18-20 years.
@@Jojpjjpkpjpjpjjpjjjlnohiguvu What kind of a username is this? Something a bot account would have?
Conditions had a lot to do with it. Wherever the ball was swinging these two were lethal. If there was reverse swing, like in the subcontinent, easily the most dangerous pair ever.
But conditions with less swing (Australia for example), they were less lethal. McGrath/Gillespie was a great pair particularly at home. Same with Donald/Pollock. Walsh and Ambrose were possibly the best pair under all conditions.
But 90s had brilliant bowlers overall.
There used to be a John Player's Cigarette add showing Waqar Younis uprooting stumps for Surrey in English County Cricket from 1990-92. Those were some sublime spells as well and I wish I could find them on CZcams.
Waqar younis pre 97 was the most devastating bowler in cricket history. He had raw pace even Waqar Younis pre 95 easily was bowling over 153 consistently.
Wasim had longevity and an all round better quality career, he didn't necessarily need pace Post 96, he has skill where as waqar's pace was his superpower!
Thanks man...this was one of the finest video one could ever hope to see with respect to fast bowling...I have watched Waqar Younis from December 1997 Sharjah to 2003 world cup...I always thought Wasim was way better than him...& Shoaib was way quicker than him ( in fact he was)....but two videos including this & other Sachin's first 50 in test cricket....after watching these two videos I finally understood why Waqar Younis was rated so high by entire cricketing world...especially in second video where he broke Sachin's nose with a perfect bouncer....I don't think Sachin has faced quicker spell than that in his entire career only exception would be Shoaib & Lee...sometimes maybe Donald...but honestly in that particular spell by Waqar in 1989...his pace was looking higher than even Shoaib Akhter & Brett Lee...had there been proper speedometer those days...I m damn sure ....Waqar Younis of 1989-90 was quicker than Brett lee & Shoaib Akhter...My respect for Waqar increased way too much...he was the greatest fast bowler in 90's in world cricket...even better than Allan Donald & Glenn McGrath...my goodness...in two videos watching these two videos...I can certainly tell that Wasim was great but Waqar was even better in early 90's and as far as pace is concerned he was up there with Shoaib Akhter & Brett Lee...
Absolutely spot on with your comment he was a genuine express pace bowler shame his injury let him down in his prime otherwise he would of taken the 1992 World Cup with a storm he definitely would of been the star of the World Cup the Waqar of 1989-1991 was extremely quick and I’m pretty sure quicker than Shoaib & Lee he bowled with venom and extreme
pace on docile placid pitches in Pakistan and Sharjah pretty much all his career certainly one of the greatest fast bowlers the game has ever seen
@@psychm4787Two silly guys speaking rubbish. I am a huge Waqar fan and Waqar was very quick in 1989. He was never as quick as Shoaib even in 1989. Shoaib is the fastest bowler ever. No one will be as fast as Shoaib
@@shujahmohammed9173Waqar >>>>>>>>> Shoaib
@@shujahmohammed9173 Who is the silly here is determined by the way u r commenting rubbish things...if Waqar Younis was so slow...why than Shoiab Akhter didn't troubled him 1999 or 2003 wc whereas Waqar did broke the nose of Sachin in 1989-90...he broke his nose only because he was quick...very quick...had there been proper speedometer those days...my statement would have been validated....and for ur kind information "SILLY GUY"...Shoiab is a huge admirer of Waqar Younis not Wasim Akram...
@@sudhanshumitra1989 sachin was a 16 year old kid in 1989 , which is why Waqar broke his nose . Now you are proving that you are silly 😹😹😹
Greatest strike bowler of all time !!!
King of Reverse swing Waqar Younis
I think he's slightly better than Wasim Akram regarding wicket taking.
Waqar younis,,before he got injured, was much more lethal than wasim akram and stats confirms it.when waqar got injured,,two Ws combinedly took 23 five wicket hawls by then ,,19 of them belonged to waqar and 4 to wasim.imagine where he would have ended had he and wasim akram remained injury and politics free respectively.
Wasim tried his best to destroy waqar's career. From 1996-1999. He always benched waqar. Even in 1999 world cup waqar only played 1 match
Also thanks to Pakistani fielding who always dropped sitter to Wasim and Waqar’s bowling or else they would have taken 100 more wickets each
Just confirm your stats first.waqar's 19 out of 23 is wrong.....Wasim won world cup without waqar but what did waqar do in 96 without Wasim playing.greatness isn't judged by bowling strike rates.its judged by performances against tough opponents at the major events
To be fair, Waqar took a higher number of lower order wickets. Wasim was the more skilled all-round bowler. Both were true greats of the 90s.
wasim did it with diabetes
Only 2 legends in Pakistan cricket IK and WY.❤
Even in waqars last matches in 2003 he was still bowling 145km, pre bk injury 1989-91 he was probably consistently faster
yea, people around the world have a tendency to underestimate Waqar, because they think we have to pick only one, either Wasim or Waqar. He retired at the start of 2003; in calendar year 2002 he was second highest wicket taker in ODIs, only a wicket or two behind Shaun Pollock. he never stopped taking wickets
@@Th3L0st0ne yeah in the sharjah cup 2000 he was player of the tournanent then 2001 natwest series he was again too. It was always and still is pakiatans sht battin they always lose games. If he played for aust or saf hed have way more wkts coz they wouldve taken more catches
Nope ,not regularly,he bowled rarely 140kph , after his 1995 back injury and stress fracture, he slowed down
@@senduran35 in 2001 natwest series he was bowling 145 nt every game but some games 2003 wc he waams bowling 140s. 1999 test match in hobart he got up to 147km so he still had it just not consistently he had it in spells. Man who inspired Usain Bolt. Now that tells us something about his speed
That lbw roar coming out of his lungs n throat is nothing less than a steam engine
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the man who inspired the World's fastest sprinter Usain Bolt.
He broke the 💯 mph in South Africa in 94 series where he was going against Allan Donald and Bishop .
Waqar was the quickest and fastest .
Best ever 🫡🪽💫🪽🇵🇰
I think he was very quick but he never broke the 100 mph barrier although I think he was close he was regularly bowling between 92 to 96 mph
Lol we have two speed guns talking here.
Waqar must of been very close to the 100mph mark in the total one day cup series v SA it was labelled as the Waqar v Donald
@@asifiqbal9547listen to Wasim Akram’s interview where he says Waqar I’m sure broke the 100mph v WI and NZ in 1990-1991 both home series
Listen to Gordon Greenidge and Desmond’s Haynes when they said he was dam quick extremely quick when facing him on a docile placid pitch in Sharjah certainly the quickest they have ever faced
I'm sure, at their peak Waqar, Thompson, Sylvester Clark would have breached 100 at least once. Add Muhammad Zahid as well.
Waqar’s figures before back injury are just unreal
What a great bowler - one of my favourites.😮
When he joined the national team in 1989, he was very fast but after backbone injury in 1992 his speed became little slow.
His smooth round arm action with full back stress was very helpful in reverse swing.
He mostly used the corner of the creez . His running & ball releasing point was also excellent. He got the air swing due to his lethal action.
Therefore, he was very successful on 65 feet wickets.
Usain bolt told that waqar is his favorite bowler growing up...... This shows who is waqar yunis❤
And the BCCI had decided not to play any bilateral series against Pakistan for 10 years - 1989 - 1999.
Outstanding Waqar bhai! My childhood hero in fast bowling! ❤️ from india!
The run up, the switching of the ball from left to right hand, the jump and then final slingy action and effort.. what a bowler.. one of the 🐐 of fast bowling for sure. McGrath, Waqar, Wasim, Marshal and Lillie are the top 5 all time in that order in my humble opinion though others like Ambrose, Walsh, Holding, Anderson and Hadlee etc follow closely.. and yes.. pre injury no one comes close to Waqar in terms of sheer pace, swing, unplayable nature of his bowling and ability to swing ball both ways at 150 kms per hr.
Right but Lillee wasn't good on flat decks, while Wasim, Waqar n McGrath were masters everywhere.
I haven't seen Lillie. But I place Wasim, Waqar and Warne in a special category - taking wickets at will. McGrath had to wait for the batter to make a mistake. The 3 Ws were the best at taking wickets at will i.e. regardless of the pitch conditions, regardless of the quality of batters or whether they made a mistake. If a wicket was needed, the 3 were the best at bowling an unplayable delivery
Waqa was 155+ before he got injured in 1992
Do you have any proof that Waqar has bowled at a speed of 155kmph+?
@@Userrambo313 There won't be any proof, these blind fans say whatever they like :)
145+
@@Userrambo313 If he was quicker before Injury in1992 I would say he bowled 155k The 1992 tour of England by the 3rd test he was bowling quick again and he was timed at 93mph 150k in the 5th test
@@Userrambo313 It's actually in this video. The way to know this is to measure it against others that bowl that fast. Shane Bond's fastest delivery was 155.
You can now conduct side by side comparisons with anyone else that you see today...
Love that run-up.
Just bristling with menace and intent...
Thanks very much for this video, there's a lot of footage here I'd never seen before. Seeing Waqar in his prime against a helmetless Kapil!
Appreciated !
Proud of Pakistan🇵🇰 waqar yunas
Without a doubt one of the greats of the game express fast and deadly
I can watch him bowl all day long. An absolute treat to watch!. Respect from India.
Waqar is the fav bowler of Shoaib Akhtar and Usain Bolt. Strike bowler who used hit the stumps more than any other bowler. Clean run up and excellent bowling action, his inswinging yorkers were one of the scariest things ever in cricket.
Clean action, fast with serious wobbling swing
2:07 Simons was a week and a half late on that one what a commentary 😂😂😂
Really to watch and no one can replace him and his action plus reviers swing Yorker
Not sure about speed guns sometimes. Ive used hand held ones and sometimes really quick effort balls read slower than other stock deliveries. Waqar was awesome at his peak, fast and ball swinging around, bowlers like him at full steam are so good to watch.
Greatest fast bowler nice action gud rytham....my favorite
Best compilation of waqar's videos
Him and R9 were two young sportsmen who were the best in their sports before injuries ravaged their careers.
superb bowling action king of inswing yourkers great bowler waqar younis.
Didnt know that Waqar was also 100 meters sprinter back in 90's
My childhood favourite bowler...i used to copy his action
Waqar Younis was most dangerous and fastest bowler he was founder of yorkers
Waqar the Great 1....... deadly too🎉❤
My all time favorite...Waqar Younis!
So many copycats followed him but none of them could make a mark. He was pure class and inborn talent. Unfortunately, injury spoiled his career too. Who bowled better yorkers than him? I think no one did. Who destroyed the stumps better than him?
Speed gun showing low speed. With naked eye he is extremely quick. On modern speed gund he is 160+
No he is 260+
Did you guys notice how many time he got Lara wicket 😝😝 amazing
If there were neutral umpires and review system during those days Waqar and Wasim would have double the wkts and Pakistan many more wins.
A furious fast bowler but with clean action. Later on all of the express fast bowlers have some sort of wrist jerking in their actions.
My all time favourite baller!
93 MPH is pretty quick. Mark Wood from England bowled the fastest over by an Englishman in England today and one of his balls was an incredible 97.1 MPH (156 KMPH)
Waqar and Wasim - lethal duo
He was a macho man and a athlete
Thanks for this 😊
My pleasure 😊
In before the video blows up
Thank you for this!
My pleasure!
due to lower back injuries his pace dropped
All time greatas
My favorite swing bowler
You missed those flying stumps against West Indies.
Very fast bowler and Shoaib Akhtar's ideal.
And then came the Shaoib Akhtar who was also inspired by Waqar and started off by copying his bowling action in initial days and later on went on to become the fastest bowler.
Good bowling
Pride of Pakistan 🇵🇰 waqar younis
Match winner bowler
Were his balls measured really?
I have seen him bowling between 145 to 148. But 150 plus is really unbelievable
Prime waqar on modern speed gun was 163-165 km bowler. Those speed guns in 90s show less speeds
I saw him live in '92. Not unbelievable at all. It was scary to watch him.
in his very last match, CWC 2003, his bowling speed was clocked regularly at 89mph. see for yourself.
He was better than Akram pre-injury.
Man i miss those days
Umpire Dickie BIrd highly rated Waqar Younis
Waqar super waqar
Shoib was fastest then Waqar but Waqar was lethal .. he cud destroy any batting on his day before injury
Waqar Younis and Shane Bond are two bowlers that could have become the best of all time. Injuries plagued both of them.
How some batsmen had the guts to face express fast bowling without helmet, like Kapil in this video… wow !
Indians never fail to drop names of Indian cricketers even when video is about Ronaldo.
Grow up

He was the original first slingy action focus on block howl deliveries, which today generation seeing produced malinga, bumrah , shami and many more which is very effective bowling till today also there is also who focus more on wicket and bowled more often because these bowlers bowled more wicket to wicket..
Jeff Thomson did it way before Waqar, and he also bowled the lethal yorker that he called a 'sandshoe crusher'.
@@jshaers96 yup 👍
He truly was unplayable
Super fast....when he had the mustache!
If there was drs he would of gotten many more wickets, if Pakistan had bowling pitches he would of had 100s more, unfortunately too much politics in Pakistani cricket reduced many legends accomplishments
During his peak he used to bowl in the early 150s not 160+ as some fools are claiming.
Waqar ❤❤❤
I never saw the great Waqar sledge. I'm guessing he left this to mediocre bowlers.
He was a predator in early 90s
No one can ever place him in the cricket history
People talk about waseem
But waqar was more exciting.
His action, his speed was lethal in his early days.
His injury was before 92 world cup
3:38 moments before an untimely death
Speed gun was available dear at that time
If they had played with true potential they where un beatable in 90s they had 8 world class players in team no team in world can beat them only them self to blame disappointed many fans
Speed guns showing low speeds. He was 160+ on modern speed gun
😢nai 200
Someone wise advised him not to play county cricket if he wanted to stay injury free. He argued that Wasim played it too. To which the wise man replied that Wasim's is an action which puts stress on his shoulders and your's is a one which puts it on the back. Waqar refused. The rest is history. Too much cricket destroyed this lethal version of Waqar which was Right Arm really really Fast. The wise man was a senior, I don't remember the name.
Technically, the wise man's concept was legit !
pre injury he was faster and a deadly bowler
Siddhu paaji sun 1990 mein 😂😂😂😂
