- A lake flowing with a mysterious liquid? A Volcano that erupts frozen magma? An iceberg floating in solid ice? What NASA's New Horizons spacecraft discovered on Pluto, the icy dwarf planet towards the edge of the solar system is stunning. So many unexpected features were seen on the icy world, some of which scientists still can't explain today. Join me as we look at the most surprising features discovered on Pluto so far.

Enjoy this video? Now find out why scientists think there could be LIFE on Proxima Centauri B, the closest exoplanet to Earth! - czcams.com/video/MdCQbzYKmpw/video.htmlsi=An6WfECC5PZ_9rSo
What do you make of the recent trend of anti-science flat-Earthers? You literally can't get a true word into their pee brains.
Hello Good morning, excellent video, I love the planet Pluto, it has been my favorite planet since I was a child, and even today at 40 years old, and what makes me sad is that it is no longer the ninth planet in the solar system, that is many years ago, and if I'm not mistaken, more or less more than 15 years ago it is no longer there, now it is a dwarf planet, and please what is the name of the song that plays at the end of the video?, I loved it, and I thank you for information about this song, and congratulations on the work, successes always for you, I'm going to subscribe to the channel, and you gained a subscribed friend from Brazil, and much peace and best regards from São Paulo SP Brazil, and may GOD bless you ^^.
Fabbbbb !!!
Still soooo many surprised coming from James Webb telescope .. GONE OUT ofourknown Universe he....
I immediately gave this channel a "do not recommend" for naming Pluto a "dwarf planet". I recommend others do the same. This naming practice is information-less, hegemonic, gaia-centric, and just simple nature-hating, a neurotic practice recently adopted since the downfall of the west.
The fact a probe was sent to Pluto and I got to see what it looks like in my lifetime, I'll cherish that for the rest of my life. Truly, what New Horizons accomplished on its mission is amazing of a once in a lifetime mission. Pluto to me is still planet 9. Keep up the great work V! Love your videos!🥰
Wow 😍
We’ve been blessed to live in an era of compounding scientific breakthroughs in terms of space and I can’t wait for the next decade
If Pluto remains planet 9, would you define Ceres, Makemake, Quaoar, Sedna, Orcus, Haumea, Gongong, and Eris as planets? They are all drawf-planets roughly the same size and orbit the sun. What about comets? Where do you draw the line? We can't just keep Pluto a planet because we like it. Pluto reflects light very well, so we believed it to be much larger for a long time. Sometimes size does matter as much as you don't want to admit it.
The fact is you can't prove any of this ever happened. You have absolutely no physical evidence & you weren't there
I am closing the gate at Pluto. The rest can get stuffed. We don't have open borders in space.@@StrangeHappening-iu4fu
Pluto, a planet in our hearts and old science books.
Pluto, a planet where Joe Biden needs to live.
@@ricktaylor3748why would he move there? he already has rent free apartment in your head

Yeah, I'm soooooo shamed.🤔
Not a planet
The liquid came from the tears Pluto cried when it was no longer a planet. Damn you !
I'm 61 and ever since I was a kid I was always fascinated by outer space. I find it amazing how scientists can analyze a photo and determine how big something is and how something was formed
I'm 57,and same,..totally fascinated
to be fair, they're speculating on a lot of things. Scientists have a lot of overconfidence bias in their theories - I'm sure if you ponder on that for examples from within your lifetime, you can come up with a few off the top of your head.
For a tiny planet, it's got a lot going on...restore it as a major planet...
Great video 📹

@@StrangeHappening-iu4fu yes we would collectively have to make an exception for Pluto, but only for sentimental reasons.
@@StrangeHappening-iu4fuPluto ticks all the boxes to be classified as a planet and we should go by that and declare whatever seems fit to be called as a planet
@Svenskanorden1Yes, that would be great! Having more planets to explore sounds exciting!
@@StrangeHappening-iu4fuAll of those objects you mentioned are planets. Orcus, Sedna, Ixion, Eris, Haumea, all planets. You don’t draw a line, you take the data as it is. You don’t get to create an arbitrary cutoff.
I still have my old astronomy books, mostly showing Pluto as a boring and inert cratered ball no different from Mercury or the Moon, but colder this time. But after New Horizon visited it 6.5 years ago (gosh I'm old), Pluto turned out to be more beautiful and dynamic than we could ever have possibly imagined before that. I myself was shocked to see the glaciers, the icebergs, the convection cells and the ice mountains, as well as Pluto's blue atmosphere no different from Earth's but very thin only.
When I was a kid, I painted Pluto as a small rocky purple moon, or a Mercury looking planet. It looks more beautiful in reality than my child mind could ever imagine.
I remember having a few books like that. A bland gray rock, no different from Mercury beyond one being warmer than the other. Glad we can finally see more of our favorite planet.
Just think how many more objects out there that we think are just boring and cold, but are actually really interesting places we haven't discovered yet.
It still bothers me that the scientists demoted Pluto not long after I was taught that it was our official 9th planet in school
I understand you. It's still Pluto though! Nothing has changed, just a title.
Does Pluto care and does it make any difference how classify it?
Just because they did, doesn't mean you have to. Hope that makes your day!
Get over it.1st world problem
I interned at JPL while in college and the Pluto planet-not-planet debate raged all over the Pasadena campus. Pluto will always be a planet to me!
I went to this planet a few million years ago, i still remember those days
what
man quit smoking that funny stuff
I went there too
ski two years ago had a great time..
I always like to imagine what it would be like to stand on Pluto. It’d be cold and dark but to see such a majestic view in person, that would be incredible
You guys make me want to get on a bus and go there.
Pluto will ALWAYS be a planet to me
This is without a doubt one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen.
When scientists and space fans first studied close-up images of Pluto, captured by NASA's New Horizons spacecraft, they were stunned.
So many unexpected features were seen on the icy world, some of which scientists still struggle to explain today. Through a combination of stunning real images and animated visuals, we'll explore these discoveries and delve into the science behind them. Which is your favourite? Let me know below! V
The heart shaped region. That's Pluto saying " I ❤ Clyde Tombaugh ".
It's a wonderful planet 😍
Yes
Rob this is urgent there's something called the asteroid psyche mission can you please explain what it is?
I like Pluto. It's mysterious, dark, and so faraway. One day when technologies advanced, on our way to the stars we will drop by on Pluto?
It is very nice and I want to know more 👍
Pluto was a planet when I went to school, and shall remain so in my mind. And now I've seen it. This is mind blowing. I love V101!
Pluto is planet, no questions asked.
Pluto will always be a planet to me
And a friend of Mickey Mouse.
Also Arizona's planet
I love how he uses the word "remote" to describe a planet, like it's a hard to reach fishing spot.
I love his using of extreme adjectives to describe planets or stars like "enormous" "gigantic" "fascinating" "breath taking"
Or the little box with buttons that you change channels on the tv.
Dwarf planet
True and the best fishing spot on Pluto is particularly remote.
I don’t care what those scientists say about Pluto, it is still a planet to me. And I hope the next mission to Pluto will have a craft spend more time around the planet and its moons.
Thanks for the story and these amazing pictures. It's so amazing that there are not enough words to describe the experience...
It seems to me that these studies of the planets of the solar system are one of the greatest achievements of science. The experience they give us is the most incredible and valuable of what is available to the human mind.
Interesting, what happened to the New Horizons spacecraft at the end of the mission? Was he sent further to the Kuiper belt?
The fact that the heliosphere can interact with a planet as far as Pluto is fascinating, what's equally as incredible is we have pictures of one of the most distant objects in our solar system, I'm looking forward to all the new discoveries in the future with space exploration.
Thanks again for the great video, Rob 👍
You should do a video on recently discovered Earth like exoplanets!
There’s no point, the planet Earth is in decline. Soon it will look like an empty rocky sponge. Nothing on it alive, just rocks, sand and a few volcanoes. The inhabitants ruined the natural ecosystems and all life went extinct! 🤪🤪
Thanks for the content as always. I appreciate all the work you put in these videos.
I remember you making a video about Neptune with similar descriptions of cryovolcanic activity and hidden underground lakes.. It almost seems like even frozen planets somehow have a heated core surrounded by a cooler crust.
This really gives a different perspective on the outer planets we previously thought were just floating balls of solid ice. (Magic Schoolbus springs to mind)
Thanks Rob! Excellent work as always, more please!
Thank you for using both Imperial units - (miles) and metrics - (kilometers), in your narration, unlike the BBC's Sky at Night - which only uses kilometres for some reason. Using both methods of measuring distance is more inclusive, as helps everyone understand and appreciate the scale of this amazing place we live, the universe.
another great work. beautiful pluto we should petition to get back in to our solar system. i miss you pluto come back
Is bill gates probably owns it now
Pluto's always been my favorite planet, I know, but to me it'll always be our 9th planet, it's colors are beautiful
Thanks for sharing, big fan of your channel !
Nailed it yet again Robb! Thanks for a great video!
First video of yours that I’ve seen, and I have to say it is BY FAR the best space oriented one I’ve seen thus far. Sub well earned 👍🏼
Always fascinating to see the various geological and weathering effects, especially when you realise how minimal and slight these effects are. On planets over billions of years with no outside influence of any life.
Another well presented documentary & excellent documented. Thanks & love all your other videos.
Again thanks.
Australia...
How cool is that. I wish we could visit Pluto safely and return home. I've always thought of Pluto as a ball of rock with no atmosphere. But that's all changed. Mountains made of water ice harder than granite?
Hello Rob, these close up images are the first I've seen, and are amazing, when I was in school we were told that Pluto was the 9th Planet in our Solar System and as far as I'm concerned, still is, Thank You Sir, have a safe and enjoyable weekend, and keep looking up! 🌎 👍
The ninth planet?
Yes, of course it is!
It’s not a moon is it?
🤪🤪🤪🤪
Its frozen, I hate the cold, I've struck it off my bucket list. Still, it does look pretty.
I hate cold but i live in Quebec, Canada and sometimes, -37c is like life on Pluto!🥶
@@murielvaillancourt3855 Yes, Canada can get cold. I would never live near the cold. Any country that has more than 5 words for snow is a red flag to me.
Wish I could visit the heart in real life, set foot on those nearby mountains.
What a beautiful world.
Don't forget your thermals!
-800C might need extra layers. 🥶
Fascinating. thank you for these interesting videos
These wonderful discoveries only strengthen my belief that for now we need to really concentrate on robotic missions. Manned exploration beyond the moon is just to costly, dangerous and currently holds no great promise of returning much valuable science. Safe manned exploration is easily a century away yet.
Thanks for this great video. Wishing you and Rolo a great weekend! 🇺🇸❤🇬🇧
Brilliant video and commentary, thank you.
You got that right Rob,unusual activity including pictures of huge snail like creature's moving on it's surface & massive cylindrical spaceships on the horizon
Hi
Awsome video.

Being a Scorpio on horoscope scale still Pluto and Mars will always be my mommy and daddy, taking care of me and actually did in my life time.
You are the best in universe videos . Amazing work , well done. You deserve much more subscribers. Thanks.
great video - thanks so much
Most of what we humans are is what we don't know, and can't live long enough to find out or learn about. Let's be thankful for libraries, videos, and other ways of documenting what is discovered.
Thank you for such an amazing video. 👏🏻👏🏻
First GoPro camera in Pluto! Congrats!
Great stuff thanks
I like your positive and creative mindset.
The Next step of exploration is getting Closer !
As a Photographer its just amazes how far we have come in just 20+ years in digital technology. Like to go from a yellow blurry circle to these shots of Pluto is just amazing!
take a drink every time this guy says "glory"
Spectacularly narrated, beautiful images, incredibly described. Love the "real image" indicator in bottom left hand of screen an love love love the way both metric an standard measurements were given throughout video!!!!
Its pretty awesome we now know what pluto looks like. I remember when the new horizons probe was first launched! It was really exciting when it finally got there.
Very interesting. Thank you.
Such astonishing clarity from so very far away...
Very good information 👍
Outstandingly narrated with clear tones, excellent pausing and emphasis.
Pluto always fascinates me
Pluto will always be a planet to most of us. It’s absolutely incredible to see these images and hear proper information about it

Great explain awesome video
It was so interesting knowing that she had a mountain volcanos and icebergs and used to have water thank you for doing the video if you never did it I would of never knew
As a plutonion, I approve these findings 😅
Nice try earthling 😂
Very interesting and Pluto is amazing
I like to imagine that Pluto and other planets are just out there right now when I'm lying on my couch and write this comment. It must be so cold and windy there. Watching videos about the universe also helps me to realize how nonsense some of my "problems" are.
Breathtaking
Awesome 👌
Well done
Fascinating stuff.
Can you do a video on what you would see if you were to land on Io? Titan, Europa, Callisto and a lot of other famous moons
Excellent
Love your explanation 🖐👍
Imagine being there, in a remote outpost or something, redefines the word lonely.
Why the hell couldn't we have had this technology in 1979-1999 So we could have watched Pluto pass nearest to the sun. That sucks!☹
Your voice makes the video unique!
Nice pix. Pretty cool
Pluto should NEVER have been demoted. Thanks Tyson! It's an extraordinary planet. A frozen lake, aye yi yi.
Are you really that bitter about it?? Deal with it! 😮😮😮
@@Contessa6363 No not really. You deal with this - GFY!
It might be nothing worth mentioning really but I find that those slight pauses inbetween facts are perfect for making it easier to digest information. Reminds me of old documentaries. As much as I love RealLifeLore's channel, for comparison, this is a much more effective way of getting the point across.
I remember learning in school that the atmosphere freezes and falls to the ground as a blue snow.
Not sure if it was discussed in the video but what are those reddish/brown areas seen on the surface?
Tholins
Nice video good information
Truly magnificent!
magnificent video 😊 there must be life somewhere in our solar system 😊
Beautiful and panoramic photos of Pluto. 👍👌
Awesome👍
Very interesting
Thank you.
Since not all life on other planets will be carbon-based like us, its possible there could be life under the icx surface of Pluto.
Fascinating.
Beautiful planet
"....causing these surprising features that no-one expected...!" - You certainly have a facility for the litotic phrase there V101!!
Come to think of it, I had a puppy named Pluto. Great video though, with stunning graphics. Love to go there one day
Nice
Pluto strikes me as a much more interesting object the deadbeat major planets Earth is surrounded by. It must relate to its relationship with Charon.
Pluto will always remain a planet in my mind
