'a handful of tweets' most likely due to how niche this game has become 😂 with old cabinets potentially flooding the used market this should be good news for anyone without access to an arcade (☠️)
A warning doesn't make that better. They just had something they own be remotely shut down for the sole purpose of forcing them to spend money. That's criminal extortion
I don't think most of the older standard definition cabinets were even hooked up to the internet in the first place, what would even be the point of that? At least in the US most of the older cabinets are just like any other old arcade cabinet, the game is fully contained within and it doesn't need to be connected to anything other than the power. Is it got to be Japan only cabinets within a very specific age range where they had internet connectivity but still standard definition, so it could be one of those situations where they didn't realize that this narrow set of machines would be broken by an update
Given Konami's history, I mean, just look at the Kojima story from back in the day, I wouldn't trust Konami's side of the story, and certainly wouldn't support it. It's like Sony issuing an update that stops all the original Playstations, Playstation 2s, etc from working. It's ridiculous, so they can suck on it.
Nintendo: We don't support Our old games and consoles. And We will force Our customers to buy the newer version of Our consoles by basically make the old version consoles unusable. Konami: WRITE THAT DOWN! WRITE THAT DOWN!!!

If there’s a game developer that’s disrespectful to it’s franchises, that’s Konami
They act like the rest of the Japanese companies: Sony, Nintendo etc.

This is just gonna cause arcade owners to jerry rig their machines to work anyway, a lot already do this and it's just gonna become more common
A growing trend that is steamrolling consumers and commercial businesses.
the effects of unpunished greed:

Imagine paying for something that likely costed thousands only for a company to shut it down with no warning.
Even if it is true that they were given a warning, this situation is still so incredibly stupid!
Man now not even companies are safe from other companies business practices. Wonder what more it will take before something is done…

Live getting these in my feed, always amazing content
Me thinking he’s somehow talking about East Germany 💀
Imagine beating a record only for the game to be unplayable mid way through😂
If the arcade bought the machine, they should be allowed to do with them whatever they want.
If buying isn't owning, hacking isn't theft.
It isn't only DDR that is affected. The older Sound Voltex cabinets with 60Hz screens were also killed off IIRC
If players can kill helldivers they can take Konami
They be dancing around the issue
Kitchen cabin been killed
Konami never change
I miss DDR :(
Yeah disabling something that I own for literally no reason other than for me to buy the better thing should be illegal how very apple of them
Konami purposely destroying stuff is pretty much konami in a nutshell , looking at you metal gear survive
my dumb ass understood DDR arcades as "Doble Data Rate arcades"
Oh shit! I gotta go to my arcade and get some old DDR time in! Extreme is my faaavorite!

Not in the US, but definitely in Japan, where this is happening. arcades were given ample warning but Its still bad.
Even if there was a warning it’s still scummy
Appreciate the comment to take things with a grain of salt. Misinformation spreads like a wildfire these days.
This type of stuff should be illegal, once a product is bought the company should not have the right or ability to turn it off or destroy the product.

Those cabinets cost alot like the cost of a good car alot. Just leave them on their own server and move on selling new cabinets.
