  • David Reinbacher (#64) showing some decent tools. Only 1 U-19 blueliner has put up more points in the NL (around the level of AHL to compare I'm told as I don't usually follow that league as Habs rarely have a prospect there) and that was Roman Josi.
    Of course that doesn't mean anything, he will need to show he can progress his offensive game in the NHL but hopefully this time around the Habs won't be rushing him ala what's sadly become the norm for man years now, with so many young D looking to make the Habs or hone their skills in Laval, they can afford to let him take the year to work on things and then Laval the following year.

    Around the 2-minute mark, you managed to show a complete gaffe from Reinbacher. Not only did he make the mistake that led to the breakaway, but he managed to be too slow to cover for his mistake and let the second guy come in all alone.

      7 of 10 years we had 2 twenty goal scorers, or less, SEVEN OF TEN!!! But work on building that D core! We can't score, or save goals, but another defensive prospect is a great idea. This is what the Habs have done for the last 30 years, they focus on defense or goaltending first, then whatever's left, goes toward offense... That's been working great for us. If i wasn't a Habs fan for the last 40 years, that pick, Reinbacher, was ALMOST enough to make me stop watching the Habs, which means stop watching hockey, i have loved the Habs too long to root for another team. I have watched literally every Habs game for the last decade and a half at least, haven't missed a game, im getting tired of ALWAYS losing, finishing just low enuf that we dont make the playoffs, and high enough to not get a good draft pick. I had so much confidence in Gorton and Hughes, right until the Reinbacher pick, i am just so confused. No one in the world can convince me that this was a good pick. wait for 5 years, when Leonard and Michkov are scoring 40-60 goals, and Reinbacher is on our 2nd D pairing... It's fuckin disgusting. That's all i can say. Prove me wrong, please...

      @@toddlauretteHabsFan There's nothing to prove yet, as it's just too soon for to really say anything at this point. What we know is that MB's terrible development plan mixed with a poor approach by trying to win around Price and hope he doesn't let in more then 1.
      So Hughes and Gorton have had to come in and fix this shit. Now if it were me, I would have gone scorched earth and keep whoever I felt was worth keeping. I like vincent riendeau who has found solid goalies late in the draft. I was surprised they kept Houle and Lapointe just because new management group I thought they would want to hand pick so I wonder about that as it's huge imo as I place a TON of stock into proper development and the Habs have clearly had some of the worst development in some time as it cost MB and Timmins their jobs.
      I can't say I am a fan of the picks that Hughes and Gorton have made but Engstrom, Hutson and Beck impressed the heck out of me so I'm willing to give them time to see how that draft class unfolds as Slaf and Mesar have the skill to make this a massive draft or a not so good one depending on how it unfolds. But seeing what Cooley and Kulich did this season should make ANY Hab fan at least somewhat concerned. That doesn't mean it won't work out though, as I am well versed on Hab prospects and I know it can be a LONG PROCESS that can take YEARS. I think most fans can't wait that long and that's why you often see players break out on a different team that drafted them for say non top 20 or 40 picks.
      For this draft I badly wanted Will Smith, that was my pick all year. I watched Michkov in the MHL when he was 15 as he was teammates with Alexander Gordin and his vids are on my channel. I would have picked Smith over him no question. But with Smith gone I would have looked at Leonard or Michkov. I agree 100% they need a forward badly, next years draft is looking top heavy on D and even RD I believe.
      But maybe they had a plan and played hard to get trying to get max return and it blew up in their face and thus they had to quickly regroup and felt it better to just go safe as imo outside of injury they clearly got a future NHLer in Reinbacher. They took a sizeable risk on a bit of an overpay for Newhook, so they sent a message that they must not have been a big fan of the depth of this draft. Only time will tell if they were right or not. Fans will have to do what they feel is best for their mental health, as it's NO JOKE, life is short and people need to be very careful with STRESS as it's extremely bad for our health.
      I am of the opinion that the plan is that they perhaps feel they have 2 future stars in the league in Caufield and Hutson but know that adding any more say sub 5'11 players could be tough to win a cup with if 3 of them are on the ice in the final minute of game 7. So they went with need over BPA and took size in Slaf and Reinbacher, who clearly have size.

      @@noli3160 we'll see, I would have traded down for Nazar or just gone with Cooley but it would have been interesting had they not rushed another prospect to the NHL, if he played all year in Laval and put up good numbers some might be higher on him. Tall kid so good wing span and he has good vision for passing but skating isn't spectacular and he is going to be playing on smaller ice against bigger, stronger, and more skilled ( faster) opponents. He's going to get exposed imo. He won't have time and space to do much when they play the body.

    Still wasted their 5th pick on this guy, Habs NEED goal scoring, not more D, dont believe me?? If not, respond, and I will PROVE 1,000,000% why they should have gone with Leonard, or Michkov. Habs management, TWO DAYS before the draft..."We r definitely going with the best player available" meaning they aren't basing their pick on what they think the team needs, they're picking the best player available. Then they take Reinbacher, a right shot D man, why? Because they truely believed he was the best player available, not a chance. There's nothing wrong with Reinbacher, he just wasnt the best player available, Habs NEED scoring... If they took him at 14 or something id be fine, there was so much offensive talent left, im still sick about this pick, and will be for the next 20 years. Just gross.

      @harryhood1919  Před 11 měsíci

      I wouldn't say a ton of scoring prospects and they clearly have a very good group of D prospects going into the draft, but if Reinbacher can be another Guhle type of D for us that will help the blueline for sure. Hopefully the offense develops well and he turns into a star since they drafted him enough you would expect one. Just hope he doesn't end up a 3rd pairing D.

      I like the pick. Righthand D with that kind of size, maturity, puck poise, and skill don't grow on trees. The guy is a beast. The Habs don't win their Cup in 1993 without Desjardins, nor do they run to the Finals in 2021without Weber. The 1970s Habs don't win without the Big 3, mindful Robinson is first all-time in plus-minus. And, Hedman was more instrumental than Stamkos in the Bolts' recent Cups. In fact, Stamkos was out almost the entire playoffs when they won in 2020. Of course, the fanbase will always want what's bright and shiny. But half the time those bright and shiny players fail the interview, get picked anyway, and end up being hockey's version of Ryan Leaf or Johnny Manziel. (Did Alexandre Daigle even want to play hockey? Not according to his interviews, if you listen closely.) What the Habs are trying to build is a team like Vegas. One that is so stacked in the backend that the team wins more effortlessly by committee just like the Golden Knights did.

    • @harryhood1919
      @harryhood1919  Před 10 měsíci

      @@Fultoncards There's a lot to like a, now we just need to be patient and see how much can he progress or not over the next several years. Having Guhle, Reinbacher though gives you those big mobile blueliners that can do most things well. Those are the kind of players you win with in the playoffs as you say so hopefully between all these impressive D prospects they find a themselves a Markov and a Weber like D plus some other good ones.
      The Habs failure to replace Markov has been painfully clear when watching the Habs PP, so hopefully they have found some high end talent.
