FYI: Love your videos, however there is a missing part that tripped me up. Reading the comments it must be a recent change. As a new store owner, on the very first draft for an item, you need to click the three vertical dots at the TOP RIGHT of the listing item draft screen. Then Settings, and then toggle the Variations button to enable the variations section to show on the listing. This is not stated in the docs or anyone else's video either. I had to contact support and they knew the issue right away. I banged my head for two hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. It was just hidden. Once enabled then you are off to the races. The initial listing screens has been updated as well. Also if you have an active listing, you can not add variations. To add a variation for an active listing, you have to end the listing and do a sell similar. This takes it into draft mode and then you can add variations. I hope this helps others. You may want to pin this comment to help other new store owners. I can be the only one that was banging my head. LOL. 🤣
You are correct! It seems that eBay times their updates to take place immediately AFTER I upload a video. LOL. I'm remaking them as I go.

At some point, I just gave up and list my item one by one even if they’re the same kind with just different sizes which is a waste of time and listing space! @@Ailaa123 The tip for us non store sellers (newbies) is variations is hard to find. This is the trick, create your listing, it will look like a single listing, don’t worry. Scroll down and change setting from “auction” to “buy it now” this is important because it doesn’t work with auction. Then go to the very top of listing, right top of page, and you’ll see the 3 dots next to the ? Icon. When you click the 3 dots you’ll see “settings”, click that and you’ll see where you can enable “variations”. Then follow rest of this video because it’s extremely helpful ☺️

Another great tutorial! Thank you Scot! You are always so nice answering my questions, even in live shows! I would love a tutorial on building your own shipping policies specific to the individual. I hate eBay’s descriptions of shipping options and trying to fix one I have altered is proving to be a disaster (in mobile app, but should apply to desktop as well). I think eBay refers to as creating your “business policies” but it includes shipping. Shipping is killing me! Do you use calculated or do you enter a flat rate? I’ve heard you enter a flat rate before in a video. If u already have one, point it out to me please? Thank you!!

See if one of those two videos help. We normally just charge a flat rate. BUT, we've sold so much stuff that a lot of time we know about how much it'll cost to ship. I would completely understand if a flat rate wouldn't work for someone. In fact, I just listed some antique dollhouse fencing and I put in a calculated rate on it...just to try it.
The rest of the "policies" include things like what method you ship by (USPS, UPS, FedEx) and how quickly you ship. Do you exclude shipping locations...etc.. But, I don't have big policies written out for all of that. We ship every day. I usually charge a flat rate. I only ship international through eBay's Global Shipping Program.

If you don't have "variations" by default, It's actually in 3 dots at the top > settings. You need to switch "VARIATIONS" on.

Hmmm... that's a really good question. Honestly, I'm not sure. If the category allows variations, then my guess would be that it would apply.

Thanks! This tutorial was done on my chachingking account that does NOT have a store subscription. I mentioned at about the 1:30 mark that you do not need a store. You don't need a store subscription to do variations. :-)

I don't believe it's possible to add this to an existing listing. At least...I've never been successful at it.
What about having the same item/size/color for various quantities for different prices per quantity? Qty 1,qty 2,qty 3, etc
As long as it is the same item, like my t-shirts, adding color and size variations wasn't a problem. You can change the price and quantity for each variation. So, if your 2XL shirts were $2 more, you could easily price them that way.

What if I want to sell a book and I need to offer various items that clients can choose to add in the basket, together with the book ? One book model and any other additional item, have it's own Name, design, specifications (although same overall shape, like collectible cards).
Variation listings can only include variations of the exact same items. I think I understand what you're saying. Like, they get a free bookmark with every book. They could message you after purchase and indicate which bookmark they wanted included. BUT, if you are wanting to sell a bookmark in a bundle with the book, that would need to be a different listing.

I noticed in one of your reply comments below about creating multiple variations for those that dont have Ebay stores and to go to the 3 dots at the top right, click settings and then variations. Is there an option to convert an existing single listing to a multiple variation listing w/o having to close the single listing and create a new multiple variation listing? I didnt see that Multiple variation option. It would save time and save the # of free listings we're given each month. Thanks!
That's a great question. The answer is NO. I learned that from experience. If the listing wasn't created with variations originally, it can't be added. Unless ebay rolls that out at sometime in the future, you can't add variations after the fact.

I've found out by clearing all of the information in item specifics and keeping a very basic or blank title, going straight to editing variations and entering all the information in there first, worked pretty well for me.
Make sure your settings allow variations to become available in the listing.
When trying to select and/or enter size, color, etc. real basic info - x those out as well, and basically start it over -
I was getting stuck on 'size type' too, but when selected, I x'ed "regular" out, then sizes popped up automatically for me (xs, s, m, l, xl, dress size #s, etc). That's why your 'size type' remained in your listings variation selector, as it remained selected as a variation option.
After all your variation info is entered (save often or between steps if there's a lot of data to enter) save and complete - then item specifics can be entered without any snags.
It seems ebay tries to automatically 'help' you through the process, but if you're new to listing then some of that type of help can be confusing.

Thank you for this, you are the best! I'm trying (with no success) to locate the actual rules to see what would not qualify for this feature. I know at one time they were cracking down on variations being abused for things like CDs and DVDs. I understand that if you have any item that comes in multiple colors/sizes it qualifies. I am wondering if something like Tupperware Lids would qualify. I see there are some listing using variations for different styles of lids or different styles of bowls, but I'm not sure that that is a legit use.
Thank you so much for the kind words! The only legit application for Tupperware lids would be all the same size and style, but different colors. Otherwise, it's different lids to different Tupperware products.

Honestly, I have had terrible luck trying to use an old listing. If yours are really similar, it might work. Mine are so rarely related to an old listing that it was an exercise in futility.

I wouldn't list those in a variation listing. I think it would be too hard to differentiate them in the listing in a way that a buyer couldn't just say they didn't understand. I would do separate listings.

I am trying to sell custom created Major Baseball teams for a board game and make it easier for my buyers to choose which teams they want. I've tried doing what you said, and even the three dot thing, which does have the variations checked and still nothing comes up. HELP!! I've done single listing etc...
It's just about impossible for me to diagnose it without sitting there. Could it be that you're trying to list something that you're not licensed to create and sell? I'm literally just guessing.

Not with multiple variation that I'm aware of. Especially if the variations have different prices.

When doing quantity, how doe shipping work if the customer purchases more than one. If 2 are purchased, is the shipping price doubled automatically on the listing?
Yes, if you have multiple quantity listings, you can set the shipping costs for additional items.
we don't have a seller hub, so we don't have the variation available . I know you said we don't need a seller account or business set up but I don't see anyways of adding a variation like shirt size. Anyone figured it out?
Try going to the link I've included to turn on the Seller Hub. The variation listing tool isn't tied to the Seller Hub, however. You do have to start with a new listing. Great question. In short, no. You have to do that from the beginning.
I have sets of comics, which are Collectibles. I've seen other listings that allow a customer to pick which one he/she wants. I don't get the sheet you show at 2:36 with "Automatically updated item specifics". I used "collectibles Action Comics Superman" for my title. I added 3 items as attributes, but the blue button isn't functional. I have a photo of what I'd like to do. Can I send it to you? Thanks.
You can send it to me on Instagram and I'll try to see if I can look at it. No promises. Variation listings on eBay are cantankerous. It is truly one of the least user friendly aspects of the platform. I do hope they streamline it at some point. But, just by the sheer number of questions I try to answer, if I can't spot something right away, I can't really stop to work it out. I hope that's understandable.

Hi, I have a question about the shipping. I have a product that has size variations, but I also have different quantity of those variations. Is there a way to choose different mailing box sizes to the variations or do the mailing boxes have to be the same size of all the variations? Because after putting in a quantity of 100 or 40 the boxes will be different sizes, but I only see one shipping size to enter in. Does this mean I need to create a different ebay listing for the smaller sizes? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.
I don't believe you can add more than one shipping variable. You can add options. For example, the buyer could choose First Class or Priority. But I don't know of any way to set those different options to match the variation the buyer has chosen. I think you'd have to have a different listing for those.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you for clarifying. I spent all night on my listening variations and then got to the shipping part & couldn't enter in the different sizes 😫. Now I have to make a new listening, which is annoying cause you have to enter in the same thing, but with different size boxes. They really need to update that part. Thank you!
I just want the listing to have Size and Color variations without the customer having to choose size type. Is there a way to do that? The only workaround I know is to change "Size" to something like "Size," which looks bad.
I'm not sure. Variation listings are the least user-friendly thing on EBay. I will try to remember to check next time I'm listing something with variations.
I need your help please. I have an eBay account on my phone that’s different from the one on my PC. I feel they should be the same. How do I link them together. Seems to me that I can’t do business on my iPhone on that account when I’ve been using my PC for the last three months to do my eBay business. I mean listing and such. I would think that would be videos about how to link your phone to your PC when doing business on eBay. I guess I’ll stop my rambling. Please advise.
You just need to log out on either the phone or the PC and log back into the correct account. If you are literally selling from two different accounts, I don't know of any way to link them together.
Thanks that helped. But what if you have just 1 unit of an item but you offer a variation of colors. Let's say a bike. I have just 1 bike but it can be sold as a specific color. The thing is that eBay add a unit for each color I insert 🤔
Let me make sure I understand. Let say you have a bike, but you can paint it any color they want. That kind of "variation?" I haven't tried to do anything like that. It doesn't sound like an item that will sell multiple times a day. So, you could list it as a variation and then take the listing down when it sells. Or you could have the customer tell you what color they want when the purchase the boke and not use a variation at all.
@@TheChaChingKing Yes, that is because some eBay sellers like me have limitations on items that can list, so I'm not interested in listing multiple items (i.e. variations) with that one item.

This is the third tutorial i have watched and none of them are remotely similar to what I get on screen. There is no 'variations' tab anywhere. Is the UK version different to the U.S version?
I can't be sure if the UK version is different as I haven't seen it. That said, the platform does indeed change quite often. I may have to go back and reshoot this.
Thank you so much for your videos. I just started selling a few weeks ago and am working on listing drafts for my Wedding Sixpence English Coin in a card with the Wedding Rhyme. I am adding several "custom item specific" attributes as I believe these may make more people find my product. These items include things like Bridal Shower Gift, Wedding Luck, Wishing Well Gift, Keepsake, Heirloom, etc. I can find no information that says if adding these can possibly drive views to your products or how to use this feature and if I'm adding them correctly. It is possible the answer is already in one of your videos, but I cannot find it. Thank you so much for helping us all with our eBay businesses.
It certainly can't hurt to have them in the item specifics. If people are searching those terms, it makes it more likely that your item will be found. You won't see a lot of information on youtube for that simply because there are no analytics provided for whether or not that makes a difference. So, it's hard for anyone to say with assurity that it helps.

It is available at any level. You don't need a store.
What about when you have several of the exact same item and you want the next one immediately listed after the first one sells.
You can have a multi-quantity listing.
You say you don't need an ebay store in order to do variations so I tried following your video but the screens right from the beginning are different. I tried to do it on my own after watching this but nothing seemed to work like it should. I have a ton of magazines that I want to list with variations for month and prices. Right now I have them all in separate listings, but I want to make listings for each year and months and prices within that year. Did Ebay change the procedure since your video. If so, can you do another video with an updated procedure?
Yes, some of the platform changed right after I released the video. Most of the procedures are similar, but there were changes. When my schedule allows, I plan on remaking the video.

Variation does not appear for me.
I'm trying to sell Shaker Cups and doesn't appear,
I go to click "Sell", then click on "List an Item".
Type in something like "Gfuel Shaker Cup", and I'm forced to choose a category it follows under.
I have tried to both click on one of the product examples and clicked on "Continue without match", and the "variation" option does not appear.
The menu itself also looks drastically different than what it is in this video since the update.
Yeah, I am working on updating my videos as fast as I can. This most recent update really changed things. Until I dive into variations again, I can't give any direction.
I cant find the variation section in the template?
anyone relate? can someone help me pls I am trying to make a pick and choose listing!
Did you start with a completely new listing? If you started with a "Sell Similar" or a relisting, it won't show up at all.
1. I have baseball mitts (plural) I'm trying to list with variations (lefty, righty, color).
2. Ebay logic wants me to sell them as a pair like they're winter gloves.
3. It won't allow for variations.
4. I've changed the categories..no dice.
5. Gloves and mitts..no dice with that either.
6. What to do?

Interesting. I've never tried it with something like that. It doesn't make sense to automatically assume they are pairs. I'm not sure why it's doing that. That might be one to reach out to eBay for the answer.
I must be dumb haha I don't see a "Variations" section when I go to create a new listing. Even as I type a listing title, it doesn't default the specifics like you first show.... Any tips??
You're definitely not dumb. Variation listings are the least intuitive thing about the entire eBay platform. It could be that you're trying to list in a category that doesn't allow variations. Another thing that could be happening is that you copied , or sold similar, another listing. That rarely works. Or, it could be that the eBay Gods have conspired against you...most likely. I can't know for sure. What I do know for sure is that your lack of success at creating a variation listing doesn't indicate your intelligence. It's a fail on eBay's platform. Can you only do this on a computer, or is there a way to do it on the app?
I don't think you can do it on the app. I've never been able to find it on a phone.
My create listing page doesn't look like this & i don't have the variation option listed. HELPPPP!!!
Did you start with a brand new listing and not one that had been copied or sold similar? The platform keeps changing. UGH! If it has changed since I made this, I'll have to remake the video.

Great video, i can you are a smart man…..do you have a video on setting up shipping for variations? For example: 6 bottles( i think 4 is max) of the same product….but cost of shipping is = 1-2 bottle ($10) 3-6 bottle ($20)……….trying to figure this out and nobody can provide an answer to this……..but the king might have the answer? I don't think there's a max on the number of items that can be combined into one parcel. I've definitely included many more than that. I keep my pricing pretty simple for variations. I might have a few breakdowns, but if a customer wants many more items and the shipping is getting far too expensive, I just refund them the difference. The vast majority of my customers are fine with that. Simple is better, in my opinion.
Variations are unavailable for this listing. Eligibility is limited to qualifying item categories, Buy It Now pricing formats, and other criteria.

The problem is all the videos show variations with clothes! I don't have clothes I have rings and I can't get the variation to work, All I need is a demo on Men's Ring sizes and Ladies' Ring sizes with all the sizes available. I typed In for sale Custom crushed opal inlay rings but I can't get past it only lets me list one ring size??
Argh...I can see why that would be frustrating. I've never had any jewelry that would allow me to create a variation listing. But, it should be doable. First thing to check is to make sure you're using the exact category that allows variation listings for the rings you have. I'll post a link for that below. What if the veriations shipping weight and size is different from 1 lb. To 50 lb
Oh wow...I have no idea. I haven't ever had a product that varied by 50 pounds. Most of mine are either a different color or a different size. But never enough variation that it might weigh 50 pounds more. That sounds like those would be completely different products and would need different listings.

You can't add it to an existing listing at all. You're not missing anything. You can't do it.

I do not have the variation option when I create a new listing. Also your seller hub and what I am seeing is very different when the create listing is executed. I do have an Ebay store. Ebay help is horrible! Your tutorials are better than Ebay, but stuck on this one. Thank You!
Are you using Google Chrome as your browser? Are you actually opted in to the Seller Hub?

Your seller hub should be relatively similar. Without seeing what you are seeing, it's hard to pinpoint the difference or the reason for the differences.
@@TheChaChingKing I have opted into the seller hub and it made no difference. I was using Firefox and used Microsoft Edge, still no difference. I have tried contacting Ebay and no replies yet. Your images look nothing like of what I am seeing when creating a new listing. Thank you for your response!
It ended up being a browser issue. I was using Firefox and when you create a listing, there are 3 little dots on the upper right hand corner to adjust your listing settings that includes toggling your variations on or off. This was not visible in Firefox, so I did not know these setting existed. When I used Microsoft Edge, the 3 dots were there. Now I have turned on the variations. I hope you can pass on this knowledge. Once again, thank you for replying. I am a subscriber and will keep hitting that like button.

IT DOESNT WORK FOR ME I DONT HAVE NOTHING IN TITLE JUST TSHIRT BUT IT STILL IN VARIATION COLOR AND SIZE ARE NOT LISTED AND IF I WANT TO ADD SIZE IT SAYS Can't add Size attribute in Variations listing for a shirt
I wish it was more user-friendly. I can't diagnose it from here. Even minor changes in the platform seem to mess up the variation listings. I do plan on updating this video before too long. I have a video conference coming up with some folks who work at eBay. I'm hoping they can set me up with a contact for this kind of stuff.

No, they haven't. If you are using another listing as a starting point, like SELL SIMILAR, sometimes it isn't an option. You might have to start a gresh listing to see the option

I transfer my photos one of two ways. What I normally do is upload my photos into the eBay listing directly from my phone using the eBay app. You could also transfer your photos to your computer by plugging it into a USB. I only do that when I have a bunch of photos for several listings.

You totally lost me at 6:09. This is where I'm having trouble. I highlighted the color I wanted to use (blue) just as you did, clicked "add photo", downloaded it from my laptop, and it's simply just showing up in the large photo but when I scroll down all of the shirts on the variation chart are still the first color. This is ridiculous how hard eBay makes this! The rest of their processes have been pretty intuitive so far for me... Any idea what I'm doing wrong?? TIA!
Without seeing what's happening there first hand, it's really hard to diagnose from here. My gut says that you've left the box checked for "Default photo" that I talk about at the 4:45 mark.
And, you are 100% correct about this being ridiculously hard. It's not an intuitive process AT ALL. Not for me either.

I FINALLY figured out what was happening!
Kind of an unusual one for me... I was going too fast. 😳
However, I still say it's very non-intuitive.
I think I'm so used to working on things that I moved thru it too fast. So... I just deleted the whole variations (didn't have that much up there so no biggie) and I took a deep breath and just calmly started from scratch.
In case this helps anyone, what was throwing me off was the two different sections of for the photos. I was trying to figure out why they needed me to re-import photos again. What wasn't clear is:
the photos that are on the top half are like your photos for your listing in general. But when you click on the variation such as in my case "pink" then you're going to go click on "add photo", go into your own files again, find and click on the one that applies. Then click on the other variation, and repeat same for that. I mean, you did all this I know lol! but I think just going too fast and having a different-looking page or something threw me off.
I was so beyond happy to finally see in the "chart" where it shows your different variations, 3 blue shirts and 3 pink!!

I would think so. I don't list them, so I don't have direct experience with those.

If you're starting the listing by selling similar, it probably won't give you the variation option. You have to start with a new listing. Is that what you're doing?

If you've used an old listing or "sold similar," you won't have the option. You need to start with a brand new listing. If that isn't the issue, I'm not sure.
