I can think of three reasons why SL players don't have all SL irons in their bag 1) they already had variable wedges that they liked ( saves money) 2) around the green SL wedges tend to be standard grind shapes. Having specialist wedges can make some shots easier. Cleveland CBX2 wedges come to mind ( cavity backed with different grinds for Sw/ LW) 3) Amount of wedge bounce on SL wedges may not suit the course. Too much for summer/ too little bounce for winter For all the above reasons I kept using my variable Cobra 54/10 and 58/06 wedges with my F9 Cobra SL 5-GW set. I recently tried another brand of SL irons ( Milford Golf SL-7 available in Oz) and bought the 60/04 SL wedge ( I bought 6 i-GW Milford SL-7 set) and I was pleasantly surprised how well the lob wedge worked. The SL wedge is longer in the shaft, but lighter in the head. I use a Cobra 56/10 variable grind as a SW in this set, mainly because I already had it. ( see point 1 above) Craig I use a SL Cobra F9 19 hybrid in my F9 set, between the 5 iron and 5 wood. It is a little shorter in carry distance compared to my Cobra 19 F7 Hybrid, but boy it is very versatile even as a chipping club with a chip-putt method. The gap between fairway woods and irons is even more of an issue as a players swing speed drops with age. I am toying with replacing my F9 5i ( 22 degree) with a hybrid or a hybrid -iron ( T Rail/ Launchpad/ HB Turbo) to get better gapping between the 6 iron and 19 hybrid. Perhaps you can do a video addressing this grey area between irons and fairway woods. What are our options?
Kym Stock thanks for the input! If you’re able to be successful with your setup, by all means stick with it. I think the majority of people can benefit from having the OL irons from the fairways and find more greens, therefore removing the need to worry about chipping as much. I’ll definitely add the club option idea to my ever-growing list of videos and will get it done for you.

I made the switch to one length irons. I have about 5 rounds with the new irons. I am having trouble with my wedges when I make a full swing with my wedges.
That’s common when people make the change. You have to really clear your head and swing exactly the same as the rest of the irons. Wedges are probably the hardest to adjust to

Welcome to the channel and thanks for subscribing! I definitely would recommend going something more forgiving to start. You don’t want to get into a forged set until you’re confident in your irons, as a shot off center will not only produce really bad shots, but it also will give your hands and arms a jolt. I know Cobra has put a ton of R&D into the speed zones and have had years of experience with the one length system. I’ve not personally hit them, but I’ve heard great things. If you’re looking at something a little more wallet friendly, I am wrapping up a review on Pinhawk that I will release this week. I’ve been impressed with them as well. Cobra F7 will be hard to find new, as will the F8. I would say if you’re going cobra, look at F9 or speed zone.

I hit my 9iron (36) almost always perfectly, but according to my height and WtF that's my 8iron length. So I was also thinking to get them all cut to 36 and play from centre. In your opinion do you see any clear advantages to sticking to the usual 7iron stance compared to centre?

@SimplifyYourSwing and just to clarify. You place ball in centre of your feet for setup? If yes would you still set it up like that if your irons were cut to a 7iron instead of 8? Is this for the single plane swing or for normal swings too
@@ndragon88 center of the stance is where my spot is. Everyone’s spot is a little different. If you go through your swing slowly, including downswing slowly, note a spot about 1/2” behind the lowest point where it hits the ground. That’s the ball placement. Doesn’t matter length of club.
hatchhatchhatch I don’t have a problem with your setup, as long as 2 things are there. 1. You’re comfortable with the wedge lengths and 2. Your club gapping is reasonable for your game. I just probably wouldn’t mix up your lengths much more because then you’re adding another “swing” into the bag on top of your woods, irons and wedges. I have the OL utility and I won’t lie, it took a little getting used to. My mind really wanted that club swing different because it’s been engrained that way for so long. The other thing is, when hitting it with your 7 iron swing, it comes out really low. I can make the adjustment in ball position to get it higher, but honestly, I’ve got it for 2 reasons. 1. It’s awesome off the tee, and perfect for short par 4s to get me a lot of roll, and 2. It’s great for when I want to get the ball low and run. I’ll still hit it 230-240, just with 50-75 yards of run. I also carry a 4H when I want high trajectory and quick stops from the same distance. So unless you really need something in a 2-3 iron setup, go with hybrid
which utility did you get and what club does it fill for you? I suspect if I wanted another club to act as my "4" iron, I think i would need the 2-3 "3" one utility - and set it around 19.5 degrees. I'm very comfortable moving my ball position around - i usually play it quite a bit further towards my lead foot with my 5 iron and back from center with the PW Absolutely crush the 5 iron and the gapping throughout the bag is pretty good up to there
hatchhatchhatch if you’re comfortable with the ball more forward, you’re probably going to be comfortable/fine with a OL utility. I’ve got the cobra 3-4 OL. So my 3W is about 240-250. The utility and my 4 hybrid are both around 220-225 clubs with my 5i checking in at about 205. 6i is around 190 and my gaps are around 12-yards after that. I actually carry the utility and hybrid both for trajectory/shot type reasons. Utility is there for off the tee to get it on the ground and rolling out. If I’m faced with a shot where I can roll it up, the utility is my go to. But if I need to carry and get it to stop fast, I pull the hybrid. With my gapping at the top of the bag, I’ve really never found a reason for a 5W as I’ve always favored having a driving iron in the bag.

i was under the impression that one lengths only went to a SW, which is 54 degrees...but you keep referencing a 60 degree???
D Day you can absolutely find 60 wedges in one length. Cobra makes them, as well as other manufacturers
Do you have your SL set to 8iron stock length? (So 36.5) or an 8iron adapted to your height/wrist to floor measurement? (Which would be what)
I’m at 36.5 so standard 8 iron. I can’t remember my wrist to floor off the top of my head, but I have pretty long arms

playing cobra f8 OL 5-pw, 37.5in, then I play all three of my vokeys cut to 35.5. thoughts on that?

Dan Dumm I never try to rebuild a swing, just make adjustments. Swing YOUR swing, know your swing and make YOUR swing work.
