Dear Ross... You were an instructor of mine in 1990 at MI... Not sure what to say here but you changed my life! Your dedication and patience as an instructor, plus the fact that you were a super nice person! I know of your passing and I wish you well. I hope you are in a great place hopefully jamming with James Brown!
@@justinpaquette224 Also getting the knack for rhythm guitar in general. If you can keep a steady rhythm during this kind of funk riff most other genres are fairly simple!
Justin Paquette yes doctor! these kind of lessons are golden. The future media will be trash..... If you can recommend me any other funk player like him I’d appreciate it. Remember E9 !!!
My guitar teacher gave me this about 8 years ago and I loved it so much. So happy to see it here on youtube but also so sad to read comments that Ross Bolton has passed away. RIP and hope you are grooving in heaven.
Always miss this guy, his musicianship and open handed willingness to teach mean he sits forever in the first rank of The Angels, The Seraphim, which means its always a good idea to refer to these pt1 & 2 videos if you're interested in Funk Guitar. The snippet of onstage jamming with Oneida James is wonderful, she is the baddest of The Bad on that slap bass, as funky as you could require.. 🎶❤️❤️👍
Chraig Smb Agree, very good video and you get a great base to explore funk rythm guitar from. I would recommend this video to amateur blues and jazz players as well. You never know when funk rythm comes in handy.
Man, thanks for posting this!!! I watched both parts and it was great!!!!! I never heard of this guy before. I looked him up and apparently he plays in Al Jarreau's band.
hi there again,,ROSS , this is sleeyo,,I think you're really GREAT,,,I like your way of teachin' ,,was wondering why not make the second FUNK BOOK,,NEVER EVER found a teacher as simple as you,,,funk is my life,,got dirty with it,,can't get enough,,,so thanks for funk teachin' ,always in my music..keep funk alive. sleeyo
You can tell his priorities are right, because he's spent all his free time practicing rhythm instead of just 5 minutes towards ironing out that sheet that takes up 3/4 of the screen for hours.
hello wonderful video! but i cant find the written 50 exercises ! there is another booklet but it's about 70 exercises of the book with cd... isn t exactly the same.... how I can i find the book of the 50 exercises about this video?
Floating doesn’t seem to help my timing at all. Is it really worthy struggling with that constant picking movement? It is distracting the hell out of me.
@ Joris. Not sure with the single note bubble picking but with the chords and skanking I think it is worth working at it....and the muting. Just get the feeling Fruciante of RHCP watched this video.
Sadly, Ross passed away in 2013. Well respected instructor from M.I.T, this guy had the chops and these lessons are priceless, respect.
I owe a great debt to Ross Bolton. I learned a lot from his courses and books. A true GOAT!
Respect, from Finland.
Funk guitar legend.
