Musicians Institute and Guitar World bring you a series of guitar lessons with some of the top guitar instructors around. In this video, Ross Bolton gives a lesson on Funk in Seven.
Ross was my teacher in 1992 at MI… a very kind soul Ross opened my mind and my funk guitar technique ! One of the best mis c time in my life 🙏 RIP Ross …
I'm bummed my friend has passed, but grateful that's he's without pain and has graduated. Looking forward to play with him once again! RIP Ross Bolton.
Sueño Stereo so compressor is really good it’s little and not too much expensive. Makes a huge difference when playing funk especially when ur tryin to hit single notes.
i can’t tell you how many funk songs in 7 i’ve struggled with!! 🤔😄😆 but seriously, is there a funk song in seven?? sorry, couldn’t help myself. ;)) but if you need this info, if you have a gig where you’re playing funk in odd time signatures - you’ve got a cool gig and you’ve found a very cool band to play with!
@blackseeds666 The Meters. There are also a lot of great "obscure funk" compilations out these days - check out a CD store called Dusty Groove. They have a ton of cool stuff! Also, check out anything by the Dap Kings (even though there is usually a vocalist). There is a GREAT British funk band called Speedometer, and another one called the New Master Sounds. Check it out!
I just heard right now that he passed away. This after only hearing of his illness just a few weeks ago. MF'ing cancer. Are we ever going to find a damn cure for this shit? Well, there goes another great human being/ guitar player/ teacher. RIP Ross. I guess you'll be funkin' out in heaven now. :(
DucksDeLucks et quatre ? Ça ne fonctionne pas bien. 🤔 That's 4, pronounced something like "cut-ra". Maybe Take Five was inspired by a French counting "un deux trois quat…re"…! 😊 Oh, I got you wrong: you meant, only the seven in French, like "one two three four five six SEPT"! 😐😆😊 okay …

What pedal can I use for this sounds? Thanks
A compressor pedal can help but it's not essential.
Sueño Stereo so compressor is really good it’s little and not too much expensive. Makes a huge difference when playing funk especially when ur tryin to hit single notes.
The north remembers.

@StewieSwan easy for you maybe, i didnt get anything aside from 4/4 and 3/4 until i finished this vid.
You can't count 7/8 as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 as the word seven has two syllables, which would make you mistakenly count 8/8.
+MetallicAciDD you count it as 1,2,3,4,1,2,3
+MetallicAciDD This is covered at the beginning of the video
So count in French when you get to seven = "sept" (pronounce 'set')
DucksDeLucks et quatre ? Ça ne fonctionne pas bien. 🤔
That's 4, pronounced something like "cut-ra".
Maybe Take Five was inspired by a French counting "un deux trois quat…re"…! 😊

@ksjoris01 Haha doh! He is the father of funk!
@StewieSwan i dunno. fives are easy too. 15s and 17s on the other hand. HAAAAARD :D
Too darned sad - I bought his VIDEO back in the day. If any member of his family reads this. My condolences to you, so sorry.
Matt Austen I did too. He was a great funk player.
wow those strings look heavy
Hey people! What did he die???
Stroke
Ross did not have a stroke. He died of cancer on March 30, 2013.
...please excuse my mistake, I was misinformed!
Pumazpawz
Yes sadly he did. I was very upset to hear when he passed. He was one of the best funk players I've seen. He had a brain tumor. Rip.
@EdgarBeja I know you weren't asking me, but try Average White Guys.
