Why are you so harsh to Jayson Williams? He was a excitement to watch. He brought some street elements in to the NBA. I simply love oldschool Street ball. With guys as The Professor, A.O., Hot Sauce, Skip To My Lou A.K.A Rafer Alston. So that's why Jayson Williams was so awesome to watch. Only his passing style was a joy to watch.

Donnie Nelson is who! The only one who thought he was a can’t miss and gotta get player. He basically told the rest of the organization that he had the potential to be a franchise player and one of the best in the league. Pretty much his belief and opinion on dirk is what sold the mavs on making that selection and going with him over a few other guys that they were originally planning on and been focusing on pre draft.

Vinsanity, esp when he rocked the Top 10 plays night in night out. NBA Action even gave him his own Top 10 plays of the season - a first for any NBA player over 20 years ago.

Lafrentz played like an all-rookie team player before the acl injury.
On Jason Williams, his coaches didn't hate him. His teammates didn't think that his style was ridiculous.

I'd say '92-98 draft class defined the modern NBA. '92 had Shaq and Mourning. '94 had Kidd and Grant Hill. Kidd kinda redefined NBA point guards. Grant Hill really started the point forward era which you see what LeBron is. And in '93 Chris Webber defined the true power forward with guard abilities.

Scottie Pippen,Larry Bird, Rick Barry, Reggie Lewis R.I.P, Paul Pressy, Marques Johnson and etc, all these was before Grant Hill. Grant Hill didn't start Point forward, he just did it his way
Yeah, I'll second that statement. Without Carter, Raptors might not even be there. He broke barriers. Absolutely iconic when I was growing up.
Imagine telling an icon like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who has forgot more about basketball than most people will ever know, to not criticize you. No wonder Olawakandi flopped miserably.
It was rumored that when Kareem was teaching Kandi how to do the sky hook, he responded to hi, by saying “nobody do those old ass moves anymore”…..the arrogance was just unbelievable with this guy!

Michael Olowokandi is the JaMarcus Russell of the NBA. Both had talent, but were lazy and unwilling to put in their work. Both were taken ahead of multiple HOF caliber players that their teams regret missing out on.

Olowokandi came into the league wealthy, not rich but wealthy. He was an African prince.

Nope Olowokandi looked like the read deal. Like he really could hsve been an all time great. Jamarcus looked like he was just gonna be a good college player and nothing else.
I heard that Olowakandi was buying into his own hype and literally thought he was the GOAT of GOATS and didn't think he needed coaching

The 1998 NBA draft is actually a lot better than I remember it being. Outside the big 3 [Carter, Dirk & Pierce] there were a lot of role players. I'm not calling it a great class but it really doesn't deserve the heat I gets.
I don't know how unique this class is. There's always like a handful of guys that become household names and about dozen solid players and some big busts, especially when you look at them a few years down the line. This was a decent draft class...
This class means so much for the people who grew up with the early '00s Warriors. I truly thought Larry Hughes (who they traded for a year later) was the truth, and it was bittersweet to watch Jamison knowing it could have been VC in the lightning bolts.
Dirk Nowitzki man what a legendary Dallas Mavericks player he was , but he didn’t start out that way , absolutely he struggled with the NBA feel in his first few seasons in the league before he became the Mavericks legend we know today

98 was so slept on my it’s crazy no one talks about, but Paul , dirk, , Vince will all ways be remembered. But people always sleep on bibby but I always loved bibby and always will. And white chocolate used to go in and I for got Lewis him on the Sonics was crazy

After watching this I’m realizing this draft was actually pretty good.

2011 is starting to look very iconic
1998 nba draft will always stood as one of the greatest 90s draft ever along with 1995-1997 draft. But sadly, people will mostly remember this era because they had so many players with so little fulfillment of expectations, and technically, just an era where people are going to give everyone a chance to get into the nba (technically, this is the draft with most players successfully made it to the league in 2 round format). This is also perhaps stood as a draft with most steals, as people like Nowitzki, Rashard Lewis or Brad Miller existed. For me, this draft will remain relevant because there are many notable players who actually withstood some notable length of career and having their own spotlight. Sadly, not many of them bright enough to be a big star, while the draft itself could forever be overshadowed by the fall of Olowokandi.
Bonzi Wells hit one of the first 3/4 court buzzer beaters I ever saw. I liked him as a kid for that one shot lol
I went to Ball State and he moved back to Muncie after his playing career. I was serving tables at Ruby Tuesday’s and he came in a with couple other guys. He was really cool, down to earth, and was cool as hell when I asked him how much fun he had playing in Portland lol good dude in my opinion. Chirp Chirp!

Ricky "The Hypnotizer" Davis. He used to play in the And-1 Mixtape games and that was his alter-ego/nickname, "The Hypnotizer". At times, he was a lot of fun to watch when it was he and young Paul Pierce in Boston. I'm sure 82 games of watching those Celtics teams was brutal, but only seeing them a handful of times was fun. Plus, I played with them on ESPN 2K5, so much fun. Also, he didn't shoot at his own basket to get the rebound, he shot at the other teams basket to do so - legendary. Ricky Davis crawled so Lance Stephenson, JR Smith, Javale McGee, and Kendrick Perkins could run with their "Shaqtin' a Fool' MVP's. He was the original "Shaqtin a fool' golden boy.

Raptors definitely dodged a bullet there, we probably would have ended up like Vancouver if we kept Jameson and the expansion of basketball in Canada would have been deemed a failure

Mike Bibby was legit. As a Lakers fan, no other player challenged the Lakers like Mike Bibby did. Also, don’t short change Jason Williams. You didn’t even talk about how he is the most exciting passer in NBA history. An incredible talent.
He was one of the most overrated player in his era. He was best known for his time with the kings but he was the 4th best player on those kings teams.

Th trade for Dirk is still I believe the most lopsided trade in NBA history but required the foresight of people who could foresee potential talent like Donnie Nelson

@@ProfessorWumbology yeah many people. Basketball is constantly getting more and more popular. It's been over half a decade ever since most of the players I mentioned retired. To put that in perspective, it's almost the same amount of time from when Michael Jordan retired and when players like Curry, Blake Griffin, and DeRozan started playing in the NBA with guys like Drose already in the league. In that time frame the Celtics Big 3 won a championship, Kobe won his 4th title and soon to be 5th title in half a year, Lebron took over, and Dwight Howard became the best big man in the NBA. You also have to understand the impact the NBA and basketball has had since these players retired (especially since Covid when many people started tuning into basketball for entertainment during lockdowns). The Warriors Dynasty happened since then, Lebron brought a title to Cleveland, KD joined the Warriors, Toronto won a ring, Kobe died, Lebron won a ring with the Lakers, Luka joined the NBA, Jokic won MVP, and Giannis won a ring. So much more happened within that time frame. There are bound to be new fans that started watching the NBA within these past 5.5 years.

I understand if they are kids or something but on any given day where Im from I could show a picture of Kobe and that person would likely know who it is. Cant say from where you are from but its just crazy to me that ppl would already forget who kobe or tim duncan is. In fact when i have asked ppl about the spurs all they remember is tim duncan and his championship dynasty. Of course the nba is growing and they watch the players right now so they would know them more frequently but many people to not know some of the players u named is ludicrous. i guess its about context really

And look what he did with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker who was drafted # 28 in 1998.

Sometimes those draft numbers can be misleading.
Aside from Dirk, Pierce, and VC you don’t really remember any names from this draft. Mike Bibby was great for the kings. A young PG to pair with a star in C Webb. Jason Williams. He was so fun to watch on the heat. His passes were something else. Rashard Lewis. One of my all time favorite players. Him and Ray Allen in Seattle were a problem. His lightning quick jump shot. You couldn’t guard it. They could light you up. Then once he got to Orlando he contributed fairly well.
speak for yourself. I remember Bibby, Jamison, Harrington, Rashard Lewis, White Chocolate and for the culture guys like Rafer Alston, Cuttino Mobley, Tractor Traylor. This class wasn't THAT bad. It's just bad that the #1 pick was a bust, #2 Bibby wasn't a bust but wasnt a superstar and #3 was basically a role player.

I played with the Classic Mavs team in 2k, that had Lafrentz at center, along with Dirk, Nash, and two other three point shooters. It felt like future basketball, running 5 out, pick and pops all game. Not much defense though. :D

Anybody know where I could find a video about Lebron and the Cavs before he went to Miami? I always hear that it was not a good team (or a mediocre one) but I wanna see a breakdown vid or something like that on how good was that team. It's amazing that most of the best players from this class are in the mid-to-late part of the lottery while at the top of the lottery besides Bibby were absolute bust in particular Olowakandi.

rashard lewis was a 20 and 6 player in the sonics, and later he played well in the magic too going to the finals once. he is a bit underrated, but at least he got to win a ring in Miami when he reunited with ray allen in 2013.
Go back to 98. If you told people the best player of this draft would be the skinny kid from west Germany you would’ve been laughed out of the building

LaFrentz was actually pretty solid, and later after the Mavs traded him, their defense TANKED.
I really appreciate "Earl Boykins for how Good a player he was! Even though he was a Role Player for most his Carrer, he one of the Shortest Player ever to Play and make the League! But he Play for 13 years in the NBA and was a Journeyman as he played for 10 Different Teams! I am Short myself, but Earl prevail through being Undrafted then has a Long Carrer in the NBA! Not Bad Earl, Not Bad Indeed!
