In this video, we explore one of the most interesting characters in Boku no Hero Academia, and why Hitoshi Shinsou, the brainwasher, has an interesting philosophy behind him. Shinso has been gifted with a quirk, but not the best one, certainly not for combat and becoming a pro hero. Because of this, he walks a line between talented and cast aside. Hitoshi Shinso must accept his place and his quirk, but not give in to society's conceptions of this brainwashing quirk. How will Shinso chase his dreams and escape an ordinary life of being forgotten, while also not stooping to villainy?

Horikoshi really did a great job with Shinso. First putting with 1-A, and then with 1-B. It's a pretty unique approach to building a polarizing character. It's dichotomy like this that makes MHA so good. Kind of similar to Endeavour's character arc as well.

@@TruthHero Yeah same here. Its obvious that they respect each other, as seen in chapter 212, when Shinso said to Deku "Lets fight again" though most people take it like he just wants a rematch, I see it as him and Deku respecting each other.

I say both. Because they had walls blocking their path from being heroes. They know what means to be powerless and weak.
Truth Hero Both had it hard. Shinso was treated like an outcast and he was labeled as a villain for years, while Deku was straight up bullied (verbally and physically).

We all can relate with Shinso at some point. When you have one particular, different or unique characteristic from others, people will start to have some self - made perception about your persona, without even knowning you, and you start feeling like a pariah.

I think in 2-3 arcs the traitor will be revealed to be someone in 1-A but the traitor manages to escape, Class 1-A will feel betrayed and sad, but soon after Shinso shows up in 1-A getting into the hero course replacing the traitor's spot.

It's not that his quirk isnt flashy or powerful, it's more like it's really ill suited for the entrance exams currently in place for the hero program (a point aizawa brought up). He can't brainwash a robot so his quirk is essentially rendered useless in that situation.
Against actual people it's actually a fairly powerful quirk and in the 1A v 1B fights everyone's on guard when they're against shinsou.
(A better example of an actual quirk too mediocre for becoming a pro hero is Koichi/ the crawler/ the cruller's glide quirk from the Vigilantes manga.)
Shinsou's biggest issue is definitely people's perception of his quirk. It's objectively creepy and useful for selfish means and nefarious purposes. That, along with his stoic demeanor, just don't let ppl view him as heroic or virtuous.
That's why he'd have an easier time with a more traditionally heroic quirk. He could fight the robots and get into the hero program and ppl would be more like "what a cool quirk to use against villains" rather than "what a creepy quirk, please don't use it on me"

I love him for a lot of facts:
1-All of us know he's Aizawa's secret love child even if nobody told us (and Aizawa is my favourite character ever)
2- I just understand when people are scared of you for your characteristics and they go away from you... "you are an alien, you are a monster"... but he isn't going to give up so easily, even though everyone targets him as "the strange and creepy one"
3-WE HAVE THE SAME EYE BAGS

There was also Nuckleduster from the vigilantes manga. Toga gave Deku a run for his money when she fought him disguised as Camie. etc etc.

I think “ordinary” doesn’t really accurately describe shinsou.... I mean the dude can control anyone’s mind. I think people enjoy his character more because he has every tool to become a villain n is rejected by society for having a quirk that isn’t flashy but really scary. It’s more the idea of having a guy who could easily be evil but instead chooses to be hero/a dreamer just like midoriya.
Exactly he is mysterious, calculating and very interesting actually. I need to see more of him and how he progresses to become a better hero... oh and not to mention he is beautiful!!!!

Yes! Yes! The fandoms boi deserves love! A lot of love! He is literally one of the few characters I can relate to because of the discrimination about his quirk and saying he could or SHOULD be a villain, that literally spoke to me and the struggles that I try to get pass to get to my dream

I really like Shinso since he is inspiring. Even though his quirk is what people say " villainous", he still uses it for good. That is showing a brave and strong person. If Shinso becomes a pro hero in his future, he would inspire fans that has the same troubles with quirk and would want to be a hero.
I love how determined he is to become a great hero despite everybody saying his quirk is suitable for a villain. Because if you really think about it.. anybody can become a villain. It's just their choice to become one or not. And Shinsou is really fighting through it, I respect that. He's best boi and I love him 😔💓.

I see ya Eraserhead letting the match continue so Shinso can showcase more of his abilities, Shinso and Eraserhead might be just as close as Deku and All Might I hope Horikoshi does more spotlight with Shinso or Eraserhead later on.
Whenever Shinso smiles it just pumps me up, Shinso might act cold and standoffish sometimes like Todoroki but when he smiles it gives me the same vibes full of fighting spirit like when Deku smiles.

@@TruthHero Monoma is hilarious and also pretty smart. He had a good strategy in the race and cavalry battle and also noticed Uravity's plan when fighting Kacchan. Also his quirk is pretty powerful. I also like Aoyama too.

I've always loved Shinso because I see a lot of him in me, and his character honestly made me realise that I shouldn't give up so easily. It may sound stupid, but he was sort of a wakeup call for me. I also just love his personality and quirk.

I love how characters like Shinsou Hitoshi show that the quirk doesn't make the person, that you don't always have to be what society says you are based on traits you can't control. Instead of giving in to the river like Midoriya did when he was diagnosed as Quirkless, not fighting back but hoping for something that would never happen without interference instead, Shinsou chose to chase his dream with everything he had, trying to turn the tides in his favor and fighting the current to his best ability.
This guy is the next Aizawa.

Great video, I like Shinsou because of how he never gives up on his dream of being a hero, even when others say he can't be a hero because of his quirk. He's so cool and I can see scenarios where his quirk would be incredibly useful, like , he could use it in hostage negotiation or talk a person down if they're trying to kill themselves, it could be very useful, given the right training, of course.
If Shinso could play mind games like The Riddler, he could take down a whole organization in just one night.

I also want to graduate from high school and go to Ohio State University where Urban Meyer was head coach and lasting to go the military and be in the infantry I know it’s a lot but that’s my dream that I want to accomplish.

10/10 a great character on the development he goes through throughout the series is handled quite well.
I personally love shinsou because I can see a lot of my life in him and his story. His story from back in middle school and what we hear about him before UA, it reminds me of myself in elementary and middle school. But the fact that despite everything, what people have said to him, how the world is built almost against him. he’s still working towards his goal. It’s like me, in school I was still working my hardest despite failing all my classes in middle school, I persisted, and with help from teachers who actually cared(like Aizawa) I managed to graduate highschool having taken all university prep classes with a 82% average and got a $2000 scholarship to attend one of the best universities in the country. Although because I come from a poorer family, I am now on a forced break because I owe the school money that we couldn’t pay off. But I am working hard right now to join the Canadian armed forces reserves so I can get some more funding to continue my studies. I am not giving up. I will graduate university. I will prove those fucker wrong who called me retarded because I have ADHD and severely struggled with reading and math as a kid. They never saw how hard I worked even in elementary school. But now. I made it to the 8th best school in the country. And I will keep going despite everything that is against me. So that’s why I like shinsou so much. He and I are very alike. And I strive to his level of self determination, because I’m not quite there yet. But I will be

So I deeply admire Shinso's character but I wonder, if Shinso knew Midoriya's secret, would he have had more compassion for him or even another approach than Midoriya ? After all Shinso showed a lot of frustration and the feeling that life was unfair, so would Shinso have acted differently if he knew that Midoriya had been in an even more disadvantageous situation than he was?
I read a post somewhere on the internet once that ragged Shinsou on for using his quirk on unwilling students during the preliminaries- and I was like, dude, what do you expect? Todoroki uses his quirk to slow down the other students, but I don’t see you complaining about it.
