impressive performance by Marta. She just decided not to cave in. This already happened a few times this year -- when she is on, mentally, she is unbeatable. Seeing more of such mental strength would be so cool!
She looked confident here against Kostyuk. The highlights fail to convey how nip and tuck this match really was. Both players repeatedly seemed on the verge of breaking it open. I would say Marta held her nerve very well and simply outlasted Zheng by a hair, but Zheng actually outplayed her for the most part. I saw two very confident players going toe to toe the entire match. I kept waiting for one of them to blink or have a major dip in form but it never really happened. What did happen was Zheng's form fell ever so slightly near the very end and Kostyk casually picked up the proverbial twenty dollar bill lying on the sidewalk without ever looking around to see if anyone else was nearby who might have dropped it. It was a steely performance by her, but across the net Zheng was oozing confidence and hitting through her over and again from the second set onwards.
@@pertjacanape I agree with you Zheng played the best match I’ve seen her play in the last 4 months. When I say she’s lacking confidence is the fact she couldn’t serve it out at 5-4 which lost her the match. She can take a lot of credit to Madrid she’s playing well again on her favourite surface. Marta is in form and is proving she can win these tight matches now. They both performed very well

Nowadays the quality of the highlights videos are so poor, not even able to see the ball. It is just a waste of time to watch these highlights just for the sake of hearing the commentators voice.
Disappointing to see that same lackluster handshake from Zheng. She did it at AO final too. Not good. Its okay to be disappointed that you didn't win but one can and should show better respect for your opponent. 🤔
