  • How to make a ferret hammock or small animal hammock. DIY Tutorial. You will need a sewing machine, some fabric, scissors, pins, and a few other things to get started.
    Making your ferret or other small animal, such as rats, chinchillas, sugar gliders, piggies, and more their very own custom hammock is not as hard as it may seem.
    The best part is you can make exactly the size, color and fabric texture you want or need need. I make my own ferrets cage liners, hammocks, and snuggle sacks. You can never have enough cage bedding or accessories. Once you start, you might find it hard to stop.
    These DIY hammocks are machine washable. You can hang it to dry or put it on low heat in your dryer.

    My ferrets love these hammock and you can make then in any size you want. You can also leave off the straps and use the hammock as a snuggle sack, which is by far my ferrets favorite things to play in. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I bought fabric last year to start crafting some homemade stuff for my cuties, but I was so afraid of messing it up and wasting it that it went unused for months. I’m happy to say that I finally gave it a try and your instructions were so easy to follow and well presented. Thank you!

      Sabrina Martinez Cabral Thank you! My ferrets love these. Sometimes I don’t hang then I just lay them in the bottom of the cage or on the floor and they all like playing in it. Once I started making these so could stop 😂.

    I made 4 of these! My ferrets love them. The only thing is they never like to go in them for some reason

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  Před 4 lety

      YamaWolf mine don’t go in their all the time either. Thats one of the reasons I ended up turning these hammock into “snuggle sacks”. I just leave off the straps and the ferrets absolutely love playing in them on the floor or sleeping in them in the cage. They definitely use the hides hole more when it’s not hanging 😂

    you’ve inspired me to get a sewing machine! i ended up getting the brothers sewing machine, what do you have your tension/length set on? your videos are so great. i subscribed!! :-)

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  Před 3 lety

      I keep my stitch length around 5 because I sew so much fleece and it helps it not bunch up. My tension automatically sets itself on my Singer Quantum Stylist, but I have read keeping the tension around 3-4 works good for fleece. If your fleece starts bunching try increasing the stitch length and decreasing the tension. Also, cleaning your machine after every 3-4 bobbins will make a big difference in how well the fleece moves through. I can do a video on the basics of cleaning and stuff like that if you want.

    If I use batting and fleece on both sides and use strapping with webbing straps would it be strong enough for a cat ...I make things for shelters / rescues. The ones that I make things for have large cages but let the cats roam a lot during the day. I always look forward (and learn a lot) to your tutorials. Thanks.

      @FerretTails  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi! You could honestly probably use two pieces of anti-pill fleece and poly strapping/webbing and it would be strong enough and it would hurt to add batting. I have made hammocks for cats and that’s how I did it. I also used plastic swivel hooks that I got off of Amazon and made the strap adjustable.
      I attached a video on all the different hanging method and one of them is using the poly strapping. I also shown in the video how to make the straps adjustable which you may want to do with the cat hammock so you’ll have more options on how long you need to be once you get it in the cage.
      And I also attached a link to the stronger plastic swivels hooks, but if you have any other questions, just let me know although it sounds like you totally know how to do it!

    Thank you we are not Wealthy just normal so I've gotta like make stuff Luckily we have a cage the right food and know the rest of dos and don't but is it okay to have just one ferret?

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  Před 4 lety

      Wolfie Watermelon I’m not wealthy either, but I would probably still make my ferrets stuff if I was lol. It’s fun and I get to make things exactly the way I want them! Also, you can buy often buy small fleece throw blankets cheaper than you can buy fabric. So a lot of people cut up the throw blanket to use as their fleece in thirds projects. And to answer your question about owning only 1 ferret, ferrets are pretty social and they like to play, so it’s often recommend that people have at least 2 ferrets. However, I completely understand that not everyone can afford multiple ferrets. I started with one ferret and shortly went and got another to keep my first ferret company. (now I have 4). If you can’t get another ferret at the moment or maybe ever, I would just make sure you take your one ferret out to play as often as possible, at least 4-6 hours a day (longer if you can).

    • @FerretTails
      @FerretTails  Před 4 lety

      Riley Clark you can even use strips from the old blanket for the straps, I would make sure the strips are about an inch thick.

      Riley Clark it’s no problem! I happen to be watching videos so I saw your question come up. Good luck, if you have any other questions just let me know.
      And I love making my own stuff and my ferrets definitely don’t mind. They love all new stuff they end up with 😆.
