I never realized that older displays and smaller color space cannot even come close to reproducing the red of a Coke can. The Christie's that we have are absolute workhorses, go in and out of all sorts of different people's hands and are just built like tanks. Easily 400-500 nits on that size screen.
      But you don’t really want that. Higher brightness results in worse black levels and black floor.
      Since projectors are not local array dimming, it’s always a balance between brightness and black levels.

    • @nicko880

      This projector is considered high contrast at about 10K:1. The only ones who go higher native contrast are Sony and JVC, but they more focus on home theater projectors so they don’t normally have several thousands of lumens let alone more than 10K lumens, except the 1 Sony GTZ-380 model for $80K.

    While I am sure this thing is WAY better than the new 3 laser USTs coming out.. I am really curious in terms of color gamut.. the new tri color USTs are claiming 105% or more of Rec 2020.. which is higher than this one.. are they all inflating their specs? I would think a projector like this would have even higher coverage than a UST projector that is I assume about 1/35 the price.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 2 lety +1

    • @nicko880
      @nicko880 Před 2 lety +3

      They are not inflating their specs. There are a couple true RGB laser UST units that can do full rec2020 color. There is no point in going beyond 100% rec2020 though as there are no color gamuts used that are larger than rec2020, so there will be no colors beyond rec2020 in commercially graded HDR video.
      The 100% rec2020 USTs have great color, but they have very poor contrast, and of course much lower lumens for smaller screens, not to mention limited screen sizes anyways due to being USTs.

    • @absoluteultimateav
      @absoluteultimateav Před 2 lety +3

      This highlights the importance of Color Volume over color gamut coverage. The USTs have have full BT.2020 color gamut coverage however they don't have anything like the same Color Volume as compared with the likes of the Christie Griffyn AS, Christie Eclipse, or Christie M 4K25 AS. Furthermore they are coupled with very poor contrast which makes colors look washed out. Hence, lower Color Volume combined with poor contrast produces significantly inferior color performance.

      Lumens and nits are not comparable.
      Lumens is a measure of luminous flux, which is a measure of the total quantity of visible light emitted by a source per unit of time.
      nits is a measure of luminance, which is a measure of the luminous intensity per unit area.

      @@Youthman ok. I searched. I know it. 6 Dlp Chips work. I dont find pictures how works. But i have an Idea, why the blacklevel is soo high. The Light from First chip goes to the second. One Chip have an work Angel from the Micromirrors -12 to +12 Degree. So they can Double the Angel to -24 to +24 Degree. The Blacklevel goss not linear up. That goes much progressive up. No Light goss to Objective if on both DMDs Mirrors blend the Pixellight to Blackbox. I Think thats iit. And that way of course for blue green red. At the End, the typical technic give the picture Out. Of course, this is an easy and short Example. But thats it, i Think. With perfect Processing, and Filters, optical Elements, polfilters and so on, the Result is an picture State if the Art. Better then oled Lcos and DILA, because much negative things from this other good Technics , goes away. Amazing Idea from Christie. It would be I very good Idea for Singlechip DLPs. Yes we would need 2 DMDs, but the Picture with, for example, 3 LEDs wirh minimized Rainboweffect, would be much bether as all Lcos and DILAs. Sharper, brighter, Liftime, Blacklevel like a Dream. More Ansi contrast and all the goodies from DMD with Blacklevel an colors from OLED. Ok. Maybe a Dream. But we See, it would work.

    It’s exciting to think that there is still a long way to go in the technology and manufacturing to get the prices down. Maybe in the next 5 to 10 years the average guy could afford a JVC or Sony projector that could put out these images just off a standard 4K disk!

    • @arranstokes4080
      @arranstokes4080 Před 2 lety

      Unlikely due to manufacturing and scale of production, projector sales are collapsing and with it r&d and innovation as mass production costs. Also due to tvs higher nits therea no way projectors can keep up. 12 bit panels are coming next with 4000 nits and up potential maybe by 2025 and then bam projectors will be almost 2 generations behind tvs. Not only sub hdr capability apart from the newest christie projector which costs about $1,000,000, that is not this projector its much bigger and has liquid cooling but also would be competing with a hdr12 we'll call it and 12 bit which most likely come with 8k and bigger screens as well.

      I personally do not see TV’s replacing projectors. You simply cannot get the same immersive cinema experience at home, even on an 85” TV.

      @@Youthman i get you buddy but give it 5 years and you will see 98 inch oled/q-oleds tvs affordably and in 10 years 110-120 inch tvs affordable. With 12 bit displays round the corner its matter of when not if. The highest end cinemas are slready using leds over projectors for this reason for deep blacks and hdr pop. Micro led allows for modular display and lots other tech jusy round the corner with amount r&d and consumer demand in displays it will get bigger and cheaper and faster and faster all the while projectors are losing market share. Dont get me wrong if i had the money right now and was a millionaire id go for that top spec christie projector that gives oled like picture except it could be 150 inch with perfect blacks and still amazing pop but for million pound maybe even a samsung micro led would be a better buy it would be a throw up between them if i had the money... but i dont have to worry as im not a millionaire hahaa

      Just my opinion, but I don't see a 98" OLED being the norm within the next 5 years. I could be completely wrong. Currently, 98" OLED's are $9000. I'm guessing in 5 years, they will be down around $4000 - $5000 which is quite expensive for most consumers for a TV. I certainly agree, tech is awesome and I'm looking forward to what's down the road. But I see the same happening within the world of projectors. Better tech and every year prices will decrease. The great thing is as consumers, we have a LOT of options and the best option will not be the same for everyone.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 2 lety

      Well, I just realized the 98" TV for $9000 was an LED, not an OLED. It appears the 98" Samsung Z9G OLED is "only" $59,000. Yeah, that definitely will not be anywhere near affordable within the next 5 years.

    I’d love to know the recommended room size. Most home theaters (I’m guessing) simply aren’t large enough. My room was too. Small (ceilings aren’t high enough) for the 380. I’m excited to see what the NZ9 will do when I finally get it (I preordered immediately). But I’d love to go higher end at some point. I just think it’ll take a bigger theater room.

      Yes these type projectors are for 15' wide screens or large and large rooms in general for safety concerns with the laser output.

    The Griffyn sounds great, however the native contrast is not good enough at that price. If it's at least half as much as the Eclipse's native contrast....now we're talking.

    Hi everyone. I’m building a house and it will have a dedicated theater room. I am looking at a 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos system and it will be prewired by the builder. Is there any special wires or things that need to be done to ensure the system is completed correctly? Thank you.

    • @esapper1999
      @esapper1999 Před 2 lety

      Future proofing with conduit for 7.2.4 is a good plan. Also important but often overlooked are room dimensions, sound isolation, and acoustics. If this is a DIY project do plenty of research and planning in advance. ie - Youthman and other youtube videos are great resources when planning your theater room construction.
