Two projectors: One for 16x9 content, one for 2.35:1 content. Makes perfect sense!
That's how you do a proper home theater. Every time I see a room with a screen like 120" or less I shake my head and think: what a wasted opportunity. Most people spent a fortune on subs and speakers and totally neglect the video.
I'm finishing building my new house and inside it I'm building a dedicated home theater room with dimensions close to this. I'm aiming at a screen size of 265" and using a Htpc with MadVR to tone map HDR to 14 Foot Lamberts. I'm expecting it to be ready around next year.
Seeing rooms like that give me even more incentive to pursue my crazy huge screen. It's good to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to go really big.
Congratulations Steve for this wonderful room. Thanks Youthman for these tours.
Go big Jose!
i know. Seeing half a wall being filled with a mediocre screen size seems such a wasted opportunity.
I think the most surprisingly element of his entire home cinema is that he’s still married after all the upgrades! Must have a very supportive wife :)
Well she still thinks I am nuts but she is "ok" with my theater haha. Now I want "one" haha last upgrade to a new 4K Christie projector sometime soon. We will see how that goes. I always tell her, honey I saved a lot of money doing everything myself, so I can splurge a little on the equipment 😉
that's the screen size home enthusiasts should start from, and indeed, start the ''home cinema'' renaissance.
At this point it’s almost a commercial cinema lol
Exactly…except better
I love these massive rooms. Size does matter. Just can't get the same experience in a small room
Thx. The one thing that works even better is Atmos when you have more height in the room. The 11ft ceiling works great for that :)
@@stevefrederick4019 Yeah I can imagine. My 7' height basements sucks. All we have over here on LI unless you spend 100+ grand to have your foundation dug out.
@@LIMuscleBlackdevil I would love to have a 7' ceiling! Lol. With my drop ceiling installed I only have 6' 8" from the carpet to the ceiling and it definitely limits what I can achieve with Atmos... But I still feel like I've achieved some pretty good sound even with my room's "short"comings! ; )
by far the most immersive home theatre i have ever watched.....just the sheer screen size makes it worth the investment....DAMNNNN !!!!!!!!
This is one impressive home theater, huge thumbs up for the owner for his impressive DIY skills 👍👍👍 BTW, we in Europe actually refer to our home theater as our home cinema, this is literally a supreme home cinema!
Supreme Home Cinema. I like it!
Yeh if some in the UK says they are going to a "theatre" (as it's spelled over here) you can usually assume that they're going to watch some kind of live performance, whereas if they're going to a "cinema" they're going to watch a film as some people still call them over here.
@@northeastcorals Yep here in the UK the theatre is where plays are shown. The cinema is where movies are shown.
@@Youthman I noticed the Christie projector he’s using is native 1920x1200 resolution. Was the lack of 4k resolution noticeable (especially on a screen that size)?
That was surprising how good a non-4K image looked, especially at 224”.
224" of awesomeness! I'm currently running a humble 92" screen with 5.2. I did get the kitchen island upgraded to 120" for the wifey. I'm gonna get shovel and start digging now. Very inspirational build.
My mouth actually hurts from smiling during this entire video lol. I don't know if I'll ever be able to go this big but it definitely helps my imagination and design for my next build.
This is the kind of home cinema I always envisioned in my dreams of owning. Watching movies on a massive screen just like the one in my local theatre. Love it. The owner did an amazing job 👏
This is out of this world. Fact that it’s DIY makes it all the more awesome. Good job finding this one Youthman.
This is the absolute dream for a Home Cinema... Bravo to Steve for making easily the best DIY theater I've ever seen!!! Idk if I'll ever have a space big enough to do something similar, but I will always strive to achieve something on this level before I die.
wow! that is a crazy screen and setup well done ... too bad we do not see some sort of demo ... guys love demos
Love the fabric on the walls.
I absolutely love this theater! One of my favorite things is the wall carpet stuff he used. Really gives it that cinema feel. Micheal I wanna applaud you for the fantastic job you’ve done with these theater tour vids. Just wonderfully done and love seeing inside of all theses theaters!
The screen size is absolutely everything. Amazing job. All DIY as you say.
my screen is larger, ok BUD?
This is a AWESOME THEATRE simplistic sound set up. Love the cinema feel. Utterly awesome!
Stunning. What a beast of a cinema!!!!
The fact that it’s a true 2.35:1 scope widescreen screen! Respect!!
Listening to him explain his decision making process in his home cinema build made me think, "are you me?" I agree so much with almost everything he said and how went about purchasing everything used, doing everything DiY. The cost truly doesn't have to be astronomical when you know what to dig around for used and are willing to use a little elbow grease.
This is one of the cleanest home theaters I’ve ever seen. So awesome, yet relatively simple and effective from what was shown. So impressive! 👍👍👍

Wow! Home theater goals!
Genius digging a deeper section in the basement for it.
Thx! I wish I would have went 1 ft deeper haha. IF i ever did a 3rd theater(which will probably never happen) I would do a 24' wide x 36' deep x 12' high :)
This guy is the perfect candidate for the new Christie Eclipse.
Amazing cinema, Steve! Kudus to you for designing and building a dream home theater. It’s truly inspiring to say the least, and going with the high ceiling was a superb choice.
Awesome set up!! Looks just like mine.....then my alarm clock wakes me from that dream! lol
bigger than my house UK. very nicely done
Whoa!! This is utterly insane! That really does look like a local, dedicated cinema. Yet, you can clearly see that it’s well thought out DIY and achievable if you have the skill and, most importantly, the SPACE! 🤩
Very, very impressive. Love it! 👏👏👏
Wow! Just wow .....so impressive! Lots of inspiration here in this one. Owner must be super proud he built this all himself too. Love the DIY route - makes you appreciate it so much more. Very nice work! Great tour Youthman! Thanks for sharing this one 😁👍
guy looks humble with a kick ass home cinema
He is very humble indeed
That's an amazing screen size. You must feel like you are in a comerrcial theater.
This theater is an introvert's wildest dream come true. I'm fortunate to have a blank canvas to work with in the form of a new home in the planning stages, so I'm definitely going to use your friend's phenomenal setup as a reference guide, starting with the microfiber seating. What is the brand, and are they available in other colors and configurations?
I bought them from a furniture store more local to the midwest. Steinhafels. They do not sell that exact brand anymore. They (and I am sure others) sell newer configuration. I would do a search for micro fiber sectionals. Good your with your theater build :)
wtfffff!!!!!! that screen is insanity to the highest order
That’s the way to do it, build the house around the theater! What type of insulation is in the base traps? I heard it’s bad to have standard house insulation as it can get in your lungs, nose, etc.
I used rockwool safe and sound in the bass traps and around the entire theater walls
Maybe my favorite video so far. I hope you have many, many years of enjoyment.
I want 6 of these, one for each wall and 2 for the ceiling. And be in total surround tv living -
I wonder if the friend who prints up his own movie ticket has a ticket taker posted outside to check his tickets to see if he's not sneaking in to his own home theater? 🤣🤣
that is AWESOME! very very impressive! love the scale of that theater and its DIY!
such a money saver!
This room is massive......you guys are truly home theater maniac...I am speechless and jaw dropping
I only have one word wow that was amazing I could imagine what that sounds like like you said that's a home Cinema👌👍👏❤
I have really been enjoying watching these home theatre tours. Now that's what I call a Big Screen!
Glad you are enjoying the videos
Amazing built ht! I like big spacious home theater. It catches the vibes of real commercial theater.
Now that is an impressive theater!! That projector 🤤 very nicely done. This is honestly so similar to what I have in my head if we ever build a house. Love it man... thanks Michael for the bringing this video to us!
The great part is Steve said he only has around $30,000 in the entire build. Less than $3,000 for that Christie used.
@@Youthman daaaang.... that's encouraging lol.
Wow, this is INSANE... But that basement is HUGE... On to the next.. Stay Safe, Be Safe!!!!
Thank you pepper
That's one amazing home cinema. 👍
Another amazing home cinema 🎥
Truly an mazing job Steve!
Keep em coming Youthman!! 👍🏿👍🏿
Wow , the best so far. Amazing and very professional. Would love to hear those speakers
Have you seen the LG 325inch direct view 8k tv
This is best home cinema I've ever seen!
Wow...incredible....love it....good job
Those PSA surrounds look exactly like what most theaters use.
These videos are so well done. The content is obviously excellent but so is the duration.
Thank you kindly
Wow, 224" screen! I actually have a big enough room to do a screen that size but I don't have a big enough wallet to buy the projector with enough lumen so I better stick to my current plan of about 181" 2.39:1. I like the new JVC projectors, I'm considering the NZ7.
Well you can find really good commercial projectors used that light up large screens well. Not as good of contrast as the JVCs of the world, but they work well. The NZ7/8/9 look like they will be fantastic projectors. Not enough lumens for my screen, but fantastic none the less :)
@@stevefrederick4019 Yeah you have an amazing set up! If I keep mine limited to about 180" diagonal 2.35 ~ 2.39:1 I will have about 66% of your surface area so with a 1.1 gain material or maybe even 1.0 gain I should be ok with the NZ7 at 2200 lumen, at least according to the calculator on projector central. Worst case I have to step up to the NZ8.
There is actually another limitation on my screen size, I'm planning to build 9.5' tall dipole/cardioid CBT line arrays for the left/right main and I prefer they be behind a very acoustically transparent curtain rather than the screen. The room is just short of 21' wide but in addition to the CBT's I want floor to ceiling open baffle 15" woofer columns on each side. To have room for all that, I can only use about 15' of the room's width for screen. The center speaker will be the only one behind the screen, I'm planning a 5.5' wide horizontal dipole/cardioid CBT for it.
I'm also very much a DIY guy, I built my first theater in 2008 and did everything including building all the speakers and the screen. I'm doing the same this time. It's really the only way to go, what's the fun in having someone do it right!
Check out the optoma GT1090HDR. I got one for $1,500 and have a 185 inch screen
@@coryfitzpatrick2814 Mine is going to end up almost exactly the same size as yours plus or minus an inch or two depending on how I do the velvet trim around the edge. I have a JVC NZ8 on order but of course it's back ordered like everything else.
@@stevefrederick4019 Dear Mr. Steve Frederick, thank you for sharing your home theater, it is really inspiring and highlights the importance of a large screen. Apart from the Christie WU12k, which is now discontinued, what is a projector that you can recommend for a screen with your size that is also 4K native. If you have several suggestions in different price categories that would be great. Sorry for bothering with such a question, but I can tell from this video that you have accumulated a decent amount of knowledge regarding this subject. Thank you in advance!
Now, THAT is definitely impressive!
Thank you Youthman for the video clips I enjoy watching them.
Thanks Gary
Great job Steve. Love it!!!!
Awesome home theater! All those subs must sound phenomenal!
Absolutely incredible experience
now that is one awesome cinema....awesome job ....
Nice setup with great attention to detail.
This has to be the most incredible Home Theater you have recorded Michael, would have loved to know the total cost of construction and equipment.
I think owner said he spent around $12K for theater itself including carpet, plus equipment. You can save a ton of money doing it yourself.
@@frankvee thnx for the update, must have missed while watching.
@@WindomRettes I did get a lot of the equipment used. The BenQ LK970 projector was $14000 retail. I picked it up for $3100 refurbished and have over 3500 hours on it already. The outlaw amps are work horses and way less then other brands. The Seaton 12c's I bought used for 1/2 retail. The Christie I bought used for $2300 (retail new was over $40,000) and put $2000 into it to get to back to optimal performance. I built all the bass traps/Acoustical panels myself. A nice theater can be done for a lot less than a lot of people think. Just takes a lot of time and elbow grease :)
@@stevefrederick4019 Just out of curiosity what did that projector need to get it working like new again?
@@TerminatorJuice Both Christie's I bought used had (did not know this when I bought them) had bad intergrator rods. The rods are right after the bulbs and takes the light down to the next step through a glass prizm rod. Once I had those replaced, they projectors are working at about 80% light output instead of about 30% when I bought them
amazing home theatre
Absolutely incredible
Here in the UK we call it home cinema regardless of the size of the screen. But wow that is a gigantic screen, truly awesome!
I think the movie on the ceiling reel lamp is Superman The Movie.
This is so awesome and insane
Absolutely stunning. Have you thought about installing motorised curtains that open and close from the centre of the screen. This would give you more realism just like the public cinemas.
Thx!. I would have to have the curtains track to the side walls, since there is only 2" left on each side of the screen. Maybe someday :)
Dangit. I'm in the design phase for a new home, and had decided 9ft ceilings where OK, now this.. :( lol
That’s one amazing cinema that I would love to experience
Wonderful...!!!
I have a 26' wide by 35' deep room, how big of screen can I go?
You can go really big. But it gets harder to find a projector to light up a huge screen without spending a kidney or 2 haha
If Steve upgrades to the new Christie Gryffin AS you must go back !
He would love to but not anywhere near those prices. He bought his Christie used.
@@Youthman there’s a new one in his price range. Just got released. I bet he bites
I believe he only paid around $2,000 - $3,000 for his Christie
@@Youthman Yes I bought both the WU12K-M and WU7K-M for about $2500 a piece used
and put in new Integrators rods for $2300 each.
@@burningsti The new Christie Mobius 4K25. It looks like it could be a really nice laser RGB and less Expensive than the griffyn. I am lucky enough to get to go Demo (in 6 weeks)the new Griffyn and the M4K25 might be there as well
Fantastic!
Wow amazing up front dual PSA subs with Seaton LCR Wonder how they felt and sound. )) JTR nearfield with TR! seem like the owner really can fully enjoy several brands together. Bad ass screen! Seats are so nicely build with space too! Awesome Five Stars setup! *****
Awesome!
I see space for a bigger screen
Yea haha 3” more. 209” plus 3” frame sides would have been max
@@stevefrederick4019 cut a hole in the wall for the frame
@@whiteandnerdytuba Lol he doesn't have to have a frame, but it's nice to have one for the framing of the image.
I was looking to put a 300” in my place but ceiling height messes it up for me, all I can get is a 17’
Sit closer?
Finally... Some DLP love! Steve, can you say as to why you specifically went with DLP? Well done on so many accounts
i love it
Supper good
thats so awesome
very nice! i like the fact he put the massive subs behind the 2nd seating row. that's what i did in my home theater, too. that makes the experience more intense and you do not need any bodyshaker👍
I Moved those behind the first row(instead of the second) a couple months ago and love it. I rarely have anyone in the back row anyway. :)
Think this room takes the top spot. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had to sub today, been liking and following uoir videos for a while, but now I subed and here to stay. Great content sir.
Glad you’re enjoying the con tent and thank you for subscribing
Hugeeeeeee screen✌ well done to the owner
Yeah the video going to rock
This is mind blowing! I envy his massive screen but needing a $30,000+ projector to get HDR is absolutely bananas! 😅
Some people buy a motorcycle or a boat. I bought a projector and can use it rain or shone haha
HDR is not that important. What is more important is that the imagine is stable, has good colors including black levels and achieves a good level of brightness.
Just WOW 🤩
Wow. Nice
Very very niiiice
Never been so jealous in my life for that monster screen. I would have to tear out a wall and take out the TV/Sports/game are to get a screen outside but can't see the wife getting on board.
Were those seaton speakers behind the screen? Never got a good look at those
Yes they are. My entire build is on a link below my equipment list just below the video
@@stevefrederick4019 loved all the pics, you did fantastic work my friend
WOW!!!
Awesome setup. Please share the room cad layout design and cross section drawing for understanding room parameters and placement of Audio and Video systems.
no CAD drawing. I did this all from scratch and everything was calculated between my ears :) I am kind of a mathematician. Even my teachers growing up always wanted me to show my work and I always said why, it is easier in my head haha
Most perfect 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Dope...
I'm waiting! :D
I really like the seating. Any chance of remembering what those are. Looks like they'll blend in well in a living room "theater".
A local furniture store had them, They do not sell them anymore. There are a lot of micro fiber sectional HT types out there. I had leather in my first theater and they were nice, but always cold when you sit down. The wife and I prefer the micro fiber now :)
@@stevefrederick4019
I appreciate the reply. Thank you and love your setup.
Youthman Rocks!
❤️ From 🇵🇰
Fantastic job Steve.. very clean and impressive. I am in the construction phase of my theater currently. I am also doing most of the work besides electrical. I was wondering if you have any photos or videos of the build process you can share
Youthman has a link to my full theater build by my equipment list :)
Link is in the description below
Don, did you watch the video? 🤣🤣🤣
@@Youthman yes sir. I watch all of your videos. I looked for the link before posting this comment but I must of over looked it. Or it's possible that I didn't scroll down far enough. I did manage to find the link. (I still think you put it in after I ask for the build photos 🤣🤣🤣 jk). I guess this is no different from when my wife asks me to get sometimes and I can't find it either!
🤣 it’s all good
I'm sure its just fine-, and enyoyable! I'd like to see a larger 16:9 more imax proportioned screen on that front wall, ideally! More imposing, and versatile
The problem with doing the 16/9 or 2/1 screen is trying to find a good material. I use the Dreamscreen V7 AT material now and it does not come that wide. I do not care for microperf at all. The V7 you can not even see the weave from 2 ft away.
@@stevefrederick4019 Point well noted!
