    Hey man, you did it very well, I watched the videos, I have the same problem, could you help me with the total $ cost of the entire repair, and how many hours did you finish it, or are you interested in repairing mine, I think you would do it perfectly.

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před měsícem

      Hi! I think I had around 3k invested in it. It took me about 40 hrs of labor but that's because I was going at it pretty slow. 😂😂 I wish I was in the position to do another because it was fun but I have many projects backed up that I need to complete. If you need a good machine shop referral in the Atlanta area I can suggest a good one.

    Thanks for the video! I’m doing the same for my engine now, and I have a couple questions! What adapter did you use for the steering pump to connect to eachother? And did you use a shunt tool for the getting the timing right? Also which manual did you use for setting timing?

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      When I had the shop pull the motor they had the adapter there on the shelf. I used the Seloc manual for the timing and here is the link for the shunt, amzn.to/3NSIKuI

    Good afternoon, please tell me how to properly connect the switchboard (pinout of the wires), where to put plus and minus so that there is a spark?

    I watched all the parts but I am not sure exactly what was the reason for rebuild and why #4 was having problem.

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for watching!!! I had just bought the boat and when I took it out for the first time it started knocking. Pulled the engine and found the #4 rod bearing had spun. The machine shop thinks that the wrong bearings had been installed before. There were two different journal size cranks used in that era. It would have been easy to have put the wider bearings when you should have used the narrow bearing. My machine shop milled the crank to accept the wider bearings which are more substantial. Also, I noticed that the riser had gotten very hot previously which was very suspicious. Also, these engines need to have the right fuel, if you don't use at least 90 octane you run the risk of secondary detonation which can pound the heck out of a rod bearing and cause it to fail over time.

    Awesome videos! I just bought the carb kit.
    Quick question, I am having issues that my engine idle high after running but will go back to normal if re start. Any idea? Checked carb wire and spring

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před měsícem

      It could be that the carb is dirty and playing havic with your idle mixture. Some of the carbs come with a cap over the idle mixture screw that you have to pop off. Apparently the EPA doesn't want us playing with it... LOL. Also, you may want to take a gander at your automatic choke and maybe your fuel as a long shot. I am kinda leaning towards that dirty carb however. Hope this helps!

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před měsícem +1

      @@tomexplorador855 You can try the easy route first and then if that fails tear it apart and put a kit in it.

    I cant get mine to start. Did everything as u did and it will crank but not fire up. Fuel is comming out of the csrburator as well

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před rokem

      Are you doing it in our out of the boat? Make sure you have spark coming from your distributor. If you have spark going to your plugs then make sure your timing is correct.

    • @jjdiazangel
      @jjdiazangel Před rokem

      @PhilFryOutdoors In rhe boat. There's definitely a spark coming out of the spark. Plus, there was also a compression mist that came out of the spark plug hole, and i can see gas coming out of the carburator. And the timing is all set appropriately. Im stuck

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      @@jjdiazangel That is strange... I would check the compression on each cylinder for piece of mind. Maybe the spark is weak but it should at least try and start.

      @PhilFryOutdoors i tagged in a video not sure if it went thru. It aa video of my current situation

    • @PhilFryOutdoors
      @PhilFryOutdoors  Před rokem

      @@jjdiazangel It didn't go through... Are you sure your fuel is good? I don't like doing it but you can spray a little starter fluid down the carb to see if it will try and kick off. Your carb maybe flooding it also. Are your plugs really wet? If your float and needle seat on the carb are not right it will literally pour gas into your engine which will flood it.
