Plenty people don't want that to get leaked, why should I?
@erutyj 76ky88 That is totally not the point.

As somebody who is like #172 global on beat saber, the refresh rate hasn’t been anything bad. My main complaint is just the tracking when my hands are near my butt.

Linus:"I beat my all time high score in this very fast paced game, which I could not do on the index."
Also Linus:"the refresh rate is terrible, not good enough for fast paced games."

right lol
Maybe because the weight of the controllers, maybe they are more precise, maybe because the down of fps only make it aestheticly worse, maybe because he already have notion of the song and don't need exactly to react fast. Would be very usefull to clarify though.
Well he might be saying that it seems slower than it would with higher refresh rate and that even tho he is a noob he still beat it with such low refresh rate but i might be wrong
Julio Lopez Well that just sounds like you payed attention to the video. Shame! Lmao
Thank you. refresh rate isn't as important as people think. maybe you notice it more after coming down in numbers but how bad can it really be? i played with the oculus dev kit and I liked that. it can't be worse than that

I feel like if he did a video reviewing budget hotels, he'd spend most of the time telling you why they weren't as good as the Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons
Considering the complexity of some of these things setup, it's worth it to explain precisely how much better one is, to see if it is worth the costs and downsides. Just because someone has the money to stay at the Four Seasons, doesn't mean they are going to pick it over the budget hotel, one has to understand exactly how much better one is over the other in order to make a decision.
me: I wonder how good the graphics are on the rift s.
linus: I feel like the box is a big part of the sales pitch for the rift s.
the resolution is good imo but otherwise it’s all up to your computer
Your GPU determines that. He did also say that it reduced the "screen door effect" pretty well, which is big when considering vr.
"Oculus Quest, which I also recently reviewed, and you should check that out"

On floatplane the Quest video was release over a week before this video. My guess is they are either fixing a mistake or have a little boo boo in the release schedule here.

I was the same way with my divorce! lol
Is the feline companion rechargeable? Or does it take batteries?
Powersource comes in tins.
Thanks now Im imagining Linus putting batteries into the back of his? Cat, and getting clawed to death in return.
It has really good battery life actually. A single tin will charge it for *up to* 3 days in 30 minutes. Although I'd recommend recharging more often as leaving it for 3 days without charge will cause wear, decrease lifespan and reliability, as will over charging.
@@thonmoyrahman2270 Reliability 🤣
I tried putting a battery up my cats ass when it died and it didn't work did I do something wrong?
I still didnt really feel there was enough content on VR to justify the price, so the price of the rift S was perfect for me. I'm too much of a pleb to even notice refresh rate I think, and if the market gets enough games I'm sure I can update eventually in the future. Comparing this to something double the price is a bit strange, I'd wager there are a lot of people like me who would simply never have purchased a VR setup if $1000 headsets were the only ones available.
Just got one and it"s fantastic. I"m literally watching and commenting from it. Using the VR keyboard and my screen is huge! When I make a typo I just point to the screen.

I'm late to the VR game but I love my rift s. It was given to me by a friend who didn't play it.
Personally, ive had many problems with my Oculus Rift S. The major problem this far is in adjusting its height feature on in the guardian settings. I am wheelchair bound and cannot stand, much less flail around on my feet for more than a few minutes. It took my by surprise (unlike my older Rift), that I could not set the system to accommodate sitting without being 3' tall in the Vr environment. That being said, I am a long time Oculus/vr user and up until the Rift S, a big fan. If they could correct both the height issue and maybe a be a little more reliable as far as tracking and controller function, it would be a great step forward.

@@BizTuxAndFlipFlops Nice! I just ordered the S for myself too.
Seems like my assumption was true
The longer I wait the "better" VR gets and at a lower price, glad I waited, I may finally get a VR headset this holiday season
Just don't get caught in a wait loop. VR has been awesome for 3 years, but better late than never!
Yeah and get the Quest! With the new update to also connect it to a pc and the hand tracking it’s awesome!
@@romybond7262 Don't bet on it, streaming VR media over usb3 has tons of inherent latency that has no way of solving (due to hardware limitations), Carmack said it himself at OC6. Also, We have had finger tracking in VR for years with the Leap Motion. It's a gimmick that has no use in VR. Don't get too hyped about these hacky features, they will not work well due to inherent limitations and abilities.
EVOLICIOUS No thank you. I will be hyped about it 🙃
Romy Bond specifically which quest? I’m new to be headsets
Great review. I have a rift for over a year. I would like to know if it would be worth the upgrade to the rift s (I don’t like the proximity sensors)? Also my play area is small (approximately 3ft by 6ft). Will the rift s work in such a small area?
i have the rift S and an acer predator helios 300 laptop, they work beautifully together....the cable for the Rift S can be removed and replaced wheras the Vive as I recall had issues with the cable and you couldn't replace it without sending the headset back
Everyone that tests a VR for giving a feedback: Oh it's good, pretty good.
Linus: There is no such thing as an HDMI port to display port female adapter.
It's useless anyway. the DP will still be bottlenecked by the HDMI. Unless you got dual HDMI setup somehow.
But they do actually creat an adapter. There is one on amazon.
@@fadlya.rahman4113 and maybe for a monitor. But for my tv. Total opposite. My samsung QLED only allows 60hz on DP but 120hz on HDMI
@@fadlya.rahman4113 i use one of those adapters for VR and it works fine, i dont think the framerate is bottlenecked from90
My friend got it working with a series of adapters
Did I miss something cause I can't find your Quest review anywhere on the channel.
Me neither
Me neither.
Based on other comments : it's on floatplane, not on youtube.
@@TheLK641 Correct, but the weird thing is the Quest review was on floatplane over a week before this video.
Just got this Rift S to use in Sim racing and it's such an incredible game changer, I'm 2 seconds faster than on the screen at Knock Hill first try. Really improves your ability to feel the way the car is moving around and having depth perception gives you a good idea of how fast you are going so that you can hit the corners at the right speed.
you got a rift s for sims? yikes
I just got the rift s for Christmas and I love it!!!!
From a scale of 1 to 10 how easy was it to set up??
@@cookiedough2535 is 10 hard or 1 hard? Got mine before Christmas, it was 10 /10 easy to set up.
"80Hz is too choppy"
*Laughs in 50Hz DIY headset*
Seriously though, this headset seems perfect for me - it's got a bunch of upsides to my original DIY setup (such as inside-out tracking, which will make things much easier to deal with) and the "low" refresh rate of 80Hz... well, lets just say I wasn't joking about using a 50Hz screen...
On the upside, I think I might be immune to VR-induced motion sickness! Kinda weird...
sounds more like a nightmare than something that is made to be enjoyed. No thanks.
@@evolicious Honestly, it ain't as bad as it sounds. It was pretty terrible admittedly, but if you aren't used to proper VR then it worked fine.
I'm really glad I'm moving on to a proper headset though - when it comes tomorrow I can FINALLY experience all this stuff the way it's meant to be played!
Erik Dean I’ve been thinking about getting a oculus S do you enjoy it? The only other vr I have played is PSVR

Danitron it’s a joke my oculus rift was stolen, so chill out.
Okay, so what all would I need to purchase to run the Rift S 100ft from my gaming room to my living room with full quality of the product (no latency issues, etc.)?
The index setup was so complicated that I did it in about 2 minutes.
Yeah, people whining about the lighthouses but you just set them up and it's done. Inside out tracking is ok, but there are noticeable blind spots
@@TheGodEmperorOfMankind_ He has spoken for He is the light of Humanity. Heed His words! Ave Emperor!
@@TheGodEmperorOfMankind_ Honestly I've had very little tracking issues with the rift s. The tracking issues are only really apparent when you move your hands totally behind you which shouldn't be happening in VR games anyways.
@@TheGodEmperorOfMankind_ When the S was released, definitely. But the "bad tracking" this disappeared with 1.39. I really don't see people talk about it once they've tried an S in the last few months.
@@niallmurphy2163 Never said anything about "bad tracking", just that it has blind spots, which it does and no update will fix that without a hardware change
5:35 But that's how you are supposed to put it on, i guess. Like a safety helmet or welding shield. If you just slip into it, it could also slip off your head if you are moving a bit more intensively.
Cv1 kit =better and cheaper provided that you get a third sensor. But I understand not everyone wants to get sensors all over there house
The Pimax Artisan VR's screen refresh rate is 120hrz. The screen resolution is adjustable in the settings application and has quite a range of adjustment. I'm guessing it's a bit like resolution scale, where you can force say 4k from a 1080p screen. The Artisan defaults to somewhere between 1080p to 2kish, and can be doubled using an on-screen slider, however it puts loads of extra strain on your PC obviously.

This was the first VR headset I have ever worn, and the only one. I have to say, I didn't notice any of the problems you pointed out. The battery panels didn't fall off, heck I didn't know it had any until my friend had to change the batteries. The video and the audio was perfect, I didn't see any problem with the built in audio, it was surperb. The fact that it doesn't need all that external tracking is a HUGE selling point for me. I'll definitely be grabbing one after trying it at my friend's place. It was an amazing experience. The video quality was really something. The only concern I have is if my system can handle it, something you didn't hit on AT ALL. Some minimum video card specs would have been nice to hear for this.
To all the VR fans out there. I can't wait for the VR community to fly off! Let's support alll these developers so the big AAA companies will see light and start making contents for VR!
I got my Rift S about 2 months ago and i still love it the tracking is much better then you think! I literally can't see any screen door effect, it was a really good buy!
Same, this being my only vr experience the frame rate does not bug me at all.
Yeah inside out is the way to go. Haven’t had a problem with the tracking at all. Picks up movement just fine. Only thing i wish the Rift s had was a wider FOV.
Okay great. I'm really thinking about getting one :D

I was gonna say that!
I kinda like that the Rift S and the Index vomes with DP, now i can finally use the single one HDMI output for my TV and the DP for the Index (Gigabyte 2070S 3x fan model)
The headstrap for PSVR was actually designed in partership with Sony and Oculus. So thats why the rift S uses the same headset. Its their design.
Fantastic reivew - I hope Facebook see this and take some notes!
So who's excited for OC6!
The reason the display looks sharper is due to the LCD screen. Each pixel on an LCD display has 3 subpixels rather than the 2 subpixels of OLED.
That's why even the Valve Index looks sharper than the Vive Pro despite having the same resolution.
2? Did you steal all the blue subpixels to make your fursona?
Saying OLEDs have 2 subpixels that's not entirely accurate either. Most just use an RGBG subpixels layout which means there are twice as mean G pixels as R or B but they count the resolution as the G's so yes, if you do the math on there are twice as many total sub pixels as pixels but it's not quite as simple as that, and the weird subpixel layout means that vertical/horizontal lines aren't as sharp as on an RGB subpixel layout but diagonal lines tend to be better
Nice.
@@ChrisD__ You've got me there
so you would still definitely say that the valve index is the best vr headset to buy? I have the original rift and quest, as well as psvr. looking to get the valve index because of the resolution and fov
There are actually very few games I play in VR, where I have to use the controllers. Some of them are fun, but my main use of VR headsets is complete immersion in simulators, like Elite Dangerous, Warthunder, American Truck Simulator, etc. Where I can setup and place my peripherals like Steering wheel or joystick, precisely where it shows up in game, to completely the immersion feeling of being in the cockpit or cab.
For those reasons, the Rift S is absolutely perfect, a nice upgrade in every way that I use it, and cheaper than the original Rift I used to use. 5 stars for me.
Is there a LTT Oculus quest review out there somewhere that I am not finding?
He just mixed them up, the quest should come soon
He's trying to get people to pay for it by making you go to that floatplane site. Just wait a few weeks, it'll be up then.
