Note: Welding is dangerous - I'm no expert - This video is for entertainment purposes only. - Zábava
Cool little gem of a video.. I like the part when you tossed the old yellow welder out the window
I weld 3/8 plate, do structural welding on vehicles and trailers. I've put a mile of wire through it and never hit the duty cycle. This welder in the right hands is capable of way more then people who know it all about welding will ever give it credit for.
Did I mention I run mine of a 3k inverter and a 50ft extension cord with my service truck?
Adam M, please forgive me not understanding you, but do you mean 3000 watts inverter generator or $3000 dollars inverter generator 🤔 because I'm thinking about buying a generator to power mine too 🤔 thanks
@@shermanyoung8185 he’s talking about 3k watts. Dollar amount is irrelevant
what wire do you use?
Welding is all about heat, you have to heat the metal to welding temperatures. My setup is not ideal, I'm self employed and underfunded. My setup cost about $350 finding deals on Facebook and bartering on job sites. I use a 3k modified sine wave inverter, oxy-propane torch, 3 interstate batteries.
When welding heavy steel I will run tack welds at full voltage low wire speed over the length of the area to be welded before laying the final weld. That's if my torch is dry and not an option, I'd the torch is up and running I'll preheat the area and in extreme cases I'll put my welding head on and heat the area ahead of the welder almost like a tig welder.
On thick metal I've found .035 deposits metal to quickly for good results, because of that and my daisy chained AC-DC-AC-DC welding setup. I run .030 wire. I prefer central weldings 71t-GS it's $17 for a 2lb spool where I live and I find it the easiest of all the cheap wires to run and the most forgiving.
@@adamm1998 thanks dawg. I'm going to use solar. 20 amp pure sign inverter. 4 interstate 6 volt.
And.. sold. I am picking one up straight away. Thanks for taking the time to post this demo on this welder. Much appreciated!
Just bought one today 👍🏼
Got one today and it came w an informative/cool video...Thanks for the upload
I’m sold on it! I just put it on my Christmas list!!😊Thanks for showing it off!
Thanks for the video. I'm glad that you demonstrated the welder on the 1/4 inch plate because that's the max thickness that I'll be welding when I get the welder.
Awesome - thank you!
I bought the same welder about two months ago. Awesome little machine. I'm glad I spent the extra $70 for this versus the HF 125. Good review too.
Great video. I have been looking at several, but I think you helped me decide on my first flux core welder. Thanks.
Glad I could help
I just bought one today. I've been arch welding for tins of years. I love this machine. I did the exact same tests you did lol. I'm in love with my FC 90. Great video btw
awesomeness!
I bought a Century FC-90 about 3 years ago, at the time Harbor Freight flux-core welders were only AC, not DC like the Century. I got the same results on welding, as you did, with multi-pass on 1/4" Mild Steel, but I welded on both sides for strength.
I have one, it runs perfect beads. This video does this welding machine no justice
How’s does it weld 1/4 inch mild ?
@@suchasreallife pretty well, better on steel iron without the gas, I don't like how the wire binds with mild rather use a 6011 mild steel rod if welding mildsteel
I just bought this welder from a friend. Was brand new and never opened or taken out of the box. It sat in his garage for the longest time and finally told him to let me buy it from him.... Picked it up for $140.. glad to see I didn't waste my money. Thanks for the video
congrats for the awesome score......hope yours works out as well as mine.....Booyah
awesome review. just picked one up today to help me with my college classes to practice more at home.
Awesomeness - have fun!
You sir, just sealed the deal on what welder I want for my birthday! Thank you for a very nice review, it takes guts to throw ANY welder out the window!
Ha - yes it does
My old blue HF welder would qualify.
No comparison to my FC 90.
Great video .... I was considering buying this and watching your video helped me decide yes. Looks like a fun machine for home and the price is really good.
Thank you for demo, I just bought one yesterday, trying to watch videos on how too load and use it, before I try mine. Thanks again. Very helpful.
Awesome - have fun
Ken any updates ?
Yeah?
👀
Awesome video thanks for posting!! Covered all the bases and answered all my questions, thanks a ton!
Thanks Nick - good luck to you on what you end up with; Booyah!
Great review, made me not regret buying this welder. Thanks 🙏🏽
Great to hear!
Thanks Rick the out the window was cool I am glad Lincoln came out with a compact welder . I was contemplating a similar one different brand but I well convinced thru your demo I will get the Century .
Awesome Bain - good luck with yours!
Phenomenal video , I’m looking for a flux core welder and seen a few others like the kicking horse brand but to see you weld a 1/4 plate was crazy . I’m no professional by any means and I want to get to mess around with trailers , BBQ’s and any small job may come my way . I feel the Century brand is the way to go .
Good review. I've been studying Amazon and HD online for which cheap welder to buy. I'm off to HD to buy this one. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this review.
Awesome video - trying to begin welding for some home projects! Thanks for sharing.
I have the same welder. it will be my first time welding , I should be tackling a project with it this weekend . cant wait to use it
That's great - good luck with your project!
Love the video. Especially when you tossed the old one out the window 😂 I have a Millermatic 211, that thing is a beaut. But I want something compact for emergencies, and if it gets stolen out of my truck, it won’t hurt as much 😂😂😂. Been looking at this welder. Liked the way it sizzles. Thanks for the video 👍
I had a 125 AC version of that 90 bought on clearance at Harbor Freight. Fantastic starter gasless flux core welder. I upgraded to a Titanium 125 Easy Weld after making some decent money with the Chicago Electric 125. I then sold the Chicago Electric to a guy who I knew didn't afford to buy a welder for $50. He's still using that damn thing and is making decent money in Kirkland wa.
Nice review.I own the same welder its really lightweight only about 15 lbs and very easy to use.Best welder I have ever owned.
Thanks David!!
Thats a dandy little machine, much better than the other off brands, and i really got a laugh in the beginning of the video, i didn't see that coming! Hope you enjoy your new machine!
Thanks mate - I love this tool for sure!!
Informative. I'm going to go pick one of these up -
Good luck and enjoy!
Thanks for the review. My bigger welders are Lincoln and I just acquired an LE31mp for use with gas. I like red machines.
I have a Chinese flux core machine (Yeswelder) and will run it as long as it lasts ... But once it goes out (and it will), I'll be moving to the Century FC-90.
I'm not certain i would have thrown my old welder out the freaken window? But you got my attention! Good vid. Subscribed!
great Video. I was considering going the HFT route, but I think after watching this I'm going with the FC-90. Thanks!
Great! Thanks for checking out my video and good luck with your new welder -
I went the harbor freight route, waste of $80. It was much more difficult to use and when I went to use it a year later it didn't work. Bought the FC90 from Home Depot and found welding to be much easier. I wish I had bought it first.
Just bought one for my shop great review
awesome
Good vid. The toss out the window was worth the view.
Thank you - it sure felt good.....booyah
I have that exact same welder. I enjoy the features it has. Torch trigger is senstive light and maneuverable. I love its compact size portability. Awesome welder for home diy projects or on the fly maintenance.
Awesome!!!
Rick Rabjohn yea. Thanks. You're welcome.
Awesome. Thank you. I now know this is the welder to buy.
Thanks for the video. Am considering my first welder and leaning towards flux core. Many are advising me to get something capable of adding gas later (hey say try gas and you'll never go back). For real strength, specially on 1/4 would you run a bead on both sides?
Now, I know what I want for Christmas!!
Hahahahahahahah
I have the same unit. Been practicing and playing with it and it is fun to use. Been practicing on thin gauge sheet metal and it does take some practice. Trying to not blow holes through the metal.
When researching this welder i watched countless videos and this one sold me. It was $149 at Lowes ($219 at this time) I've used this welder countless times in the past 3 years and couldn't do without it now, still running like new.
very informative and thank you for creating this video
I bought this as my first welder. I have welded a Coleman minibike frame that broke - 9 months later it still holds. I welded a piece of playground equipment - it still holds 9 months later. I also welded a trailer hitch tongue onto my trailer after the old one was bent in an accident - that has held up under commercial use for the last 4 months. I use it with a 25 foot 12 awg extension cord on a 20 amp house outlet, or on my 9000 watt Predator generator. I have never maxed out the duty cycle, and I am not a pro. I just find a way to get it done like most of you.
Awesomeness and double booyah to you Christopher!!!!!
Like you I made a switch with welders.Only my other welder sits sleeping most of the time. I started out with a Longevity model 100.It was my first welder. So now I moved to a Lincoln Pro 140. What a difference.I am now using solid .030 wire and have had great results. The Longevity was a FC only. The Lincoln can be used for either one. When you get ready to purchase a stick welder I will make a suggestion.BTW, you can cook the bacon, how about the eggs? Ken
Thanks for sharing Ken - ha ha not sure about the eggs :-)))
Thank you for your help, I bought a harbor freight MIG. It can tack an weld thin gauge but can't penetrate enough.
Glad I could help
Hey Rick a rule of thumb is when you have slag you drag. Instead of pushing the puddle pull it. Have the wire facing the start and drag the puddle toward, similar to stick. I also like to run circles with flux it gives a nice bead profile. Good luck!
Thank you Raynell!!
Well done video just purchased one great little welder.
glenn barthelemy how is it so far?
Rick nice little welder you got there. I got the Hobart stickmate 240 brand new for this year it works great. I welded together some fork lift fork for an anvil and after preheating the penetration was unbeleavable . The machine I have is the same size as yours but 8 in or a little wider that yours. I really enjoyed how you repurposed the old welder.. Martin
Hey Martin, congrats on the Hobart - they make great stuff. Booyah
I am considering buying one.
Out of the box is it DCEN? Gun negative, and Ground Positive? or do you have to manually change it for Flux core wire only welding, thanks. Evidently its better welds with the ground positive.
Excellent review. Thanks
Your video was awesome. Can't wait to use mine tomorrow- the price must've gone up at Home Depot after your video. Lol. Cheers
What breaker amp and outlet you using. It recomends 20amp breaker on 15amp outlet but trips constantly
Good vid. I'm looking for a light welder that I can flux cored weld a lot of hand rails. I've been using a Lincoln 140C, but that damn thing is too heavy to be carrying it out in the field. I think this little welder is just the ticket. Thanks for the demo.
I just did a review video on my unit. I like everything about it except the ground clamp. I have built lots of things with it that have held up very well! Nice video, I died laughing when you hucked your first unit out the window. Just subbed!
Thanks my friend! Your right about the ground clamp - I will upgrade
Rick Rabjohn I bought the brass clamp from harbor freight, it has a very heavy duty spring and just all around better in every way. I don’t know if your one of those anti harbor freight guys but I think it’s one of the good buys.
hey I love Harbor Freight - Heading there now to get the clamp with my 25% coupon - yeah baby....
Thanks for sharing your experiment with this welder since I am looking to buy a welder
I am curious on all 3 thickness of metal you welded what size of wire did you use on all three was it the. 030 or the .035 wire
Would like to know thanks
I used .035 for all - hope that helps Edy and good luck with yours
You think this would work to weld up handles on "smaller" billets like around 2 inches tall or even just san mai billet around 3/8" thick? It's been a while since I've searched around for one but I use to ask around which decent 120v (I don't have 220 in my shop) welder could handle this stuff and was never able to get an answer. I also like welding a handle on 1/4" bar stock to make forging blades easier to manipulate. I just know that my old 90amp HF is a pain to use with the choppy wire feed rate so I honestly could never control my welds enough to really test what it could hold. I know preheating can be key, especially with carbon steels and these smaller welders, so something that will get a handle stay stuck to a billet even with some preheating would be nice. Any recommendations? Thanks
I believe it could handle what your talking about with multiple passes set at the maximum. Obviously, a 220 stick welder like an Everlast would be more effective on a single pass, but this welder with multiple passes can work. Good luck!
Sold buying one tomorrow!!
I have two of those welders and travel with them. Great welder
Great to hear that - thanks for sharing
Awesome video. Thank you so much.
Great video I will probably buy this for sure
Great video. I’m going to go buy one.
Thank you - good luck
Can I use it to fabricate an expansion chamber pipe for a 2 stroke. And sir what settings would be best to start practicing. I am thinking of getting this welder. Thank you.
out of curiosity did you build your air extractor your self or did you buy one, if you built it your self maybe you can do a video on how you built it and what u used? thanks
Hey Edy, I built it myself, here is the link on a video done way back showing the set-up. czcams.com/video/XGul-ixCg0Y/video.html
I hit the like as soon as I saw the view before he threw out the old welder 😂
very help full information to decide what to get
Glad it was helpful!
Nice for beginners like me i believe it's a little more than a couple of hundred dollars looks worth it for small projects
I am assuming this will be a great option for welding exhaust and metal for my old classic truck. Would this be a smart choice for small welding of auto stuff?
I think so. Especially for less than 1/4" stuff......good luck my friend.
nice and honest review, thank you for sharing......
Thanks Ray; Booyah!
This video was very informative 👌
Never welded before and want to try, does this come with everything necessary to start welding other than mask and gloves?
yes pretty much other than all the safety gear. Good luck - welding is awesome!
Sounds great
Hi. Where do you have your settings for the 1/8”? Thanks in advance.
Going a little faster than the machine can keep up. It takes practice with thinner metals not to burn through, but the hotter you get the deeper the penetration. Thanks for showing me this little guy.
Thank you for the tips
.030 wire helps a lot on this lil beast 🔥
I'm looking to use this for rust repairs (patch panels). Dont want to spend a ton of money on something I'm not going to use every day. Thoughts?
Been thinking about this, but coming up short. I guess it depends on the thickness of the patch panels - I have welded 20 gauge steel using multiple tacs but it's easy to spend too much time over target and blow a hole through the thin metal.
Thanks for the video man.
awesome review video. I'm getting one now...
Thats great, good luck with yours; Booyah
@@RickRabjohn ...picked one up from Ebay (showed up from a nearby HD warehouse...lol). Used it Friday and works great!!! Way better than I anticipated and so simple to setup/use.
Thanks for info
I just bought this little jewel a half hour ago at Lowes. I got some welding gloves and .30 wire and .30 tip for welding a pipe on a 400 dirt bike. I never welded before but I got this because of all the videos and comments on Amazon. I couldn't afford a mask yet as they were about a hundred bucks at Lowes with little selection. Next pay day baby and I will have a goood Lincoln mask off Amazon
they have good mask that shade in lowes cheap this week that adjust while welding.
Were you plugged into a 15 amp circuit or a 20 amp circuit iwhen welding at 'max settings'....?
20 Amp
How many amps does it draw?
Would this unit be a good choice to entry level beginner welding since its quite cost effective unit .???
Yes, absolutely
Cool. Im a buy one. Just imagine what a skilled welder can do with it. I need a stand in while my mig is out for repairs.
Thanks for doing 1/4 inch ... when you do the second and third go above and below ... do u try to not focus on the initial weld thank u
I weive back in forth between the new and the initial weld - hope that makes sense.
Need your opinion would you rather have the century or the Harbor Freight titanium 125? Which one is better in your opinion with power and longevity?
I don't know much about the HF welder. Sorry. So far, been very happy with the Century .
I upgraded to the Titanium Easy Weld from the Chicago Electric gasless 125. That Titanium is sweet, and it's default DC Negative at the stick.
does this welder have a built in contactor so wire remains cold until trigger is pulled? Thanks
Thanks Neil - Sorry but I don't know anything about built in contactors
@@RickRabjohn He means, does it start arcing upon impact, or does it wait until the trigger is pulled.
@@creepybunny255 Haaaaaa..OK now I understand - it waits until trigger pulled.
what brand, and what thickness wire were you using?
I use Lincoln Electric 0.35 wire.
Thank you sir.
Booyah......
I own one of these fc90 I love it
These are a very good welder for a 90 amp welder they will beat Harbor Freights welders buy a long ways
..You were trying to keep the old welder from jumping right?? That looks like a Good upgrade. It seems to perform perty well...!!
LOL yes....thank you!
Nice video, but it would be nice to know what settings you used on all the welds?
Thanks Marty - will do next time around
Maybe put the setting you use in this conversation. I would also be Interested to know. Thanks
A lot of the welds he said they both was set on max
I have one, works great
How is the spatter and buckshot, usually its horrible with FC welders
true - that still happns but better than before
I’m seeing where people reverse the polarity, the ground clamp is then positive and the feed is negative. Have you changed yours?
I have not heard about this and haven't changed my polarity. What benefit do they claim?
Common knowledge. DC negative. Reduces spatter...
@@RickRabjohn so, a DC negative is just cleaner, it's spatter is greatly reduced as it DC negative doesn't overheat the wire causing the flux to be useless and getting spatter all over the place. We have a couple vids over at weld dot com channel about it. Check 'em out.. They remind me of my welding teachers, lol..
DC Neg. is used on FCAW. DC Pos. Is used on MIG- solid wire & gas
I just bought it too. About to get started but have a question, when I need new contact tips, where can I get them? HomeDepot only carries the ones for the Magnum gun. They don’t fit this welder. Any help is appreciated. Nice work!
I got mine on Amazon.
I found the correct tips at my local lowes
Harbor Freight carries .030 and .035 tips.
is that one that you tossed out the winda the same quality as Harbor Freight's Chicago Electric 125? If so... I should return it to the store...
That was a "flying" Northeastern brand fluxcor welder. I hear some good things on the Harbor Frieght welders. I've been very happy with it so far....good luck
That was a good one!
thank you - booyah!
Should I order one of these for welding in a wheel well and cab corner on my truck?
it could handle that - good luck
Rick Rabjohn ok thanks, I won’t be able to do it though until it gets warm lol
I bought one too and hope to learn to use it
It's very easy to use. I would suggest replacing the ground clamp for a better one. If you are using it to weld such items like muffler pipe, use a large C-clamp on the pipe...and connect the ground clamp to the C-clamp. Clamp it as close as you can to the welding location.
@@ericxiong6582 Thanks!
Review the wire size change please Thanks
Thx for the video
You bet Taylor
have a HF 90 amp flux core welder, gets the same treatment
Enjoyed watching is it a dc current welder?
it plugs into AC but inverts the current to DC output. hope thathelps
@@RickRabjohn thanks rick
Is that a 1 pound roll and if so will a 2 pounder fit in there. The book calls for a 1 pound roll. Thanks for the vid.
