If you put a piece of paper on the globe, then hold a paperclip above the paper, it will create a spark that lets you burn lines into the paper. But be careful because you can feel the electricity. Nothing major but its a small pinching feeling.

Turn it off first, then, place a flat piece of foil onto the ball so it lies flat. then turn the ball back on and hold a paper clip near the foil.
Anytime something to do with the curiosity box is done the end statement should really be, "Stay Curious."

I’m glad your words of wisdom were to encourage flossing. This is coincidental, because my pediatric dentist had a plasma orb, which was part of an entire space themed kid space in the waiting room of his office. This was literally instrumental in developing my fascination with science.
Florescent bulbs will light up without even touching the plasma ball (though it may require a larger model than shown here). You can hold the bulb in one hand and touch the plasma ball with your other hand for proper light saber fun.
These wreck nearby electronics within perhaps a couple of diameters of themselves from there surface.

If you put a coin on top of the orb and then bring your finger close to it, an arc will actually jump off of the coin to your finger.

When I had a plasma ball, I would put a coin on top and hold a paper and foil gum wrapper above the coin. The electricity would jump from the coin to the gum wrapper and set it on fire.

There are some weird backround sounds that starts at 2:14 and really caught my cat's attention, start from 2:12 and listen for it. Really weird. Sounds like a faint sound of someone chopping wood with a chopsaw or something.
