Hey, good question. First of all, it's important to know the formation changes anyway when In/ out of possession. And yes, 3-5-2 can be played with a 'flat' 3. However, I believe it is a 3-5-2 as the middle 3 are working together in a triangle with 2CDMs and 1 CAM (shown in the first example). You can play 4-3-3 with the same triangle midfield and it not be called 4-2-1-3. That's why I call it a 5 in midfield (3 in the middle + 2 wide players).
